Chapter 86: Training Proposal
"Lately, the External Affairs Department has received invitations for social events and various company collaborations. Tilan, you might want to take a look first," Amors, seated in the walnut armchair, instructed his deputy to hand the clipboard to the black-haired girl at the desk.
"'Li Xing Cup' Youth Competitive Tournament, Ten-Directions Survival Contest, Mecha Fighting Championship with Descent of Heavenly Fire..." the girl's gaze swept over the first page of the catalog and summary.
"Numerous events in the Four-leaf Crystal Star Domain, in order to expand their fame and enhance their value, tend to invite top-ranked Academy students to participate, and naturally, our Edith Academy is among them," a student council member wearing gold-rimmed glasses explained.
"These events offer substantial sponsorships to invite us and provide certain privileges during the competitions. Although the benefits are plentiful, the events are a mixed bag, and while it's fine if we win, being defeated by an unknown opponent could also affect our Academy's reputation."
"There are pros and cons, then," the girl reflected, her eyes scanning the introductions to these event invitations.
"Yes, and there are also partnership invitations from various companies. Some of these are for our Academy students to use, serving as advertisements. Others are invitations to participate in their company's product development trials, such as new protective gear, fighting equipment, Transcendent Core models, and Spiritual Medicine development, among other things."
"The companies behind these sorts typically have significant strength; otherwise, they couldn't afford the high fees for collaboration endorsements. Recently, as the 'Hats and Short Swords' club has won against Thunder Edge Academy, we've received an increase in endorsement invitations."
"Is this the competition between elite Academies in the Star Domain? Win, and you gain glory and everything else; lose, and you risk losing it all," the girl mused softly, her eyes widening slightly at the staggering endorsement fees listed on the spreadsheet.
"Exactly, this is what you'll be facing in the future. Although the highest authority in the Academy is the board of directors, they won't bother with such 'minor issues,' so the decision-making power lies entirely in our student council's hands," Amors interlaced his fingers, leaning forward on the desk.
"Pick out a few projects that catch your eye. Later, hand them over to the External Affairs Department members. They will meticulously investigate the other party's background and analyze whether their proposals are reasonable before moving forward."
"You want me to choose? But I'm not familiar with these companies, isn't it a bit hasty for me to make such choices?" the girl spoke instinctively.
"There's no such thing as a perfect choice, Tilan," Amors reminded the young girl.
"As long as it's broadly sensible, that's enough. What we need to do is continuously adjust, by all means, to steer the outcome towards our anticipated direction."
"You will take over my position in the future, and my advice is to delegate the trivial tasks and look for someone to share the load. Your energy and focus are precious, not to be wasted on trivialities. Even taking a break could be a wise choice, allowing you to maintain a better Status and deal with emergencies as they arise."
"In managing your subordinates, you must also give them appropriate pressure and challenges for them to grow quickly. If they keep doing repetitive tasks, it's undoubtedly a waste of youth."
"Don't be afraid if they don't do well. Human potential is sometimes much more robust than you think. Plus, even if they fail, the experience gained is still valuable."
"During school, even if you make mistakes, there are always safety nets, an opportunity that doesn't come often. And in the future, it may not be so easy. Furthermore, Edith Academy's influence within the Jade Skirt is beyond your imagination; there are few things the board of directors can't handle. You must believe in the power of money and authority," Amors gently persuaded.
Although the black-haired girl did not fully agree with his view, she acknowledged that some of it made sense.
"I understand," she replied, closing the clipboard.
"Actually, the reason I came today is that I have some ideas I want to discuss with President Amors." After the last confrontation, she had slowly begun to think about how to enhance the students' strength at the Academy.
"It seems you're finally feeling motivated," Amors's lips curled into a slight smile. He released his fingers and gently clapped his hands, signaling for the others in the office to leave first.
Once the others had left, he stood up, invited Tilan to sit on the couch beside the coffee table, and then poured two cups of coffee, bringing them over.
"Do you know why I asked them to leave?"
"I don't know," the girl answered honestly.
"Simple, you need to maintain a certain mystique. If everything about you is known, it becomes hard to command respect. Most people are like that," Amors shared his experience.
"They often have the illusion that if they see it, they can do the same, not realizing how distant that perception is from reality. Those with self-awareness are still all too rare," Amors imparted his knowledge.
"Maybe so, but I don't want to act all deep and mysterious," the girl shook her head.
"No problem, but I still advise you not to recklessly expose all your secrets to outsiders, especially those ideas that are still unformed."
"They might be sincere, but fools will only see the greenness and naivety without noticing the true feelings and will behind it," Amors shook his head.
"Although I rarely converse with you, I've always paid attention to every word and action of yours at the academy, Tilan. After all, the board informed me quite early that you would take over my position."
"Not everyone can understand your gentleness and the far-reaching ideas behind it; they only understand from the most immediate and short-term benefits. Such people really are everywhere," he slowly sipped his coffee and then set it down.
"Even I almost misjudged," he said with slight emotion.
"Alright, let's not discuss these lessons learned for now. What matter do you wish to consult with me today?"
"About ideas to enhance the strength of academy students," the girl began.
"That issue is something almost every top academy pays constant attention to. In fact, we've already done our utmost. Every teacher in the academy is top-notch in their field, we have all the advanced equipment, and every few days we help students analyze and adjust their current study methods, offering many advanced models for students to freely browse and try."
"I know," Tilan shook her head, her point wasn't these aspects.
"I don't think I can offer any better suggestions on hardware facilities, but the current study methods still seem a bit monotonous." After comparing the student life of Edith Academy with schools in the north, she found that life here was monotonous and repetitive, unlike those in the north, which were diverse and lively.
"I want to try letting some students leave the South First District and travel to other areas to personally encounter and handle some issues."
"I'll use my club for the trial. They're all first-year students; even if the trial doesn't go well, we can make up for this hiatus later."
"The advancement of the Transcendent Core is not only related to magical talent but also to one's temperament and will. If they go through some hardships, their mentality should become more stable and their tenacity even stronger," she slowly said, gently closing her eyes.
The room fell silent for a while as Amors pondered whether such an approach was feasible.
"I'll apply to the board, but I can't guarantee it will be approved," he finally conceded.
"Thank you for your understanding, Chairman."
"May I ask where you plan to take the students for their training?"
"Northern Second District, Northern Ninth District."
"That's quite a tumultuous journey. Suddenly, I'm quite interested, but it's a pity that I'll be leaving in a few months," he said.
"Bon voyage, our lovely Little Tilan," he suddenly smiled, a look that made the girl opposite him somewhat uncomfortable.
"Why add the word 'little'?" The girl's voice carried a hint of resignation, similar to that of certain members in the club.
"Because Little Tilan is indeed very cute, it makes people unconsciously overlook your threat, ha ha ha." Each time he thought about the seemingly harmless girl in front of him becoming the biggest trump card of Edith Academy for the next three years, a sense of satisfaction and anticipation rose in Amors.
He really looked forward to seeing his old rivals drop their jaws in shock. Even if he had already graduated by then, he wouldn't miss it for the world. He'd make sure to have someone record it well and then watch it.
In these past few years, although Amors was skilled in scheming, he had sustained his fair share of losses in confrontations with other academies and had pent up quite a bit of frustration.
