MMORPG: Isekai World Online

Chapter 14: NPCs Are Now Sentient?

"Greetings Lord."

"Greetings my Lord."

"Greetings Lord Emperor!"

Three individual maids stood next to one another, in front of a throne.

Behind the massive throne were the skeletal remains of a dragon, known as Fafnir.

I kept its remains as memories of when Phantom Mutiny slain the vicious beast of tyranny; it happened a year when there was a raid in Isekai World Online. It was the largest raid in history for the game, and even we struggled against it.

Millions of players across the world participated in this raid, known as Judgement Day.

It was the day when Terra, also known as the Earth itself, rebelled against humanity.

Yes, you heard me correctly, the actual planet that we live on rebelled against us.

According to this world lore; Terra is a planet that every player in Isekai World Online spawns in. Unlike Earth, that's a floating rock in the depths of space, it's actually sentient, and acts on the Will of its own. On the day of Genesis, when the absolute created the world, Terra was a floating mass, not given form, until it decided to create its own life.

Terra took the form of a planet, making itself physical, and disbanding its spiritual body.

Afterward, the Goddess Terra created the humanoid race.

Humans, Elves, Dark Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, and Goblins; with the addition of creatures of Earth, known as wolves, slimes, and many other species out there.

However, after the creation of the humanoid race, Terra could see how chaotic they were; starting wars, plaguing the planet, ruining nature, and killing for fun.

The Goddess was heartbroken with her creation and felt betrayed by their actions. From their inability to show peace, her spirit eventually crumbled and broke into fragments; putting her wrath upon the humanoid race.

Demons, Undead, Vampires, Elementals, and Golems were created from her anger. They're known as the "Descendants of Terra", created to balance the world and be enemies of the humanoid race.

Terra's will brought these monstrous species into creation to vanquish most of humanity and prevent the destruction of the natural order.

This leads to the hateful relationship between the humanoid race, and the abnormal race.

Every day there is a battle between the humanoids and abnormals with no signs of stopping which causes many wars across Terra.

It's pretty sad.

Not even the world we live in likes us humans.

But at the same time; a Human King that's as powerful as me is rare in certain MMORPGs, so I don't regret making my character.

"Greetings Mona, Aiko, and Keiko, are you well?!"

"Yes my lord!" (All)

The three individual maids were average in height for Japanese females.

Mona had black hair tied into a ponytail, Aiko had long pink hair that reached her back, and Keiko was your average brunette with short hair.

But despite their looks, they were something known as Battle Maids.

Here in Ottenmore kingdom, battle maids were subordinates of mine meant to carry out any commands I give them, like many of my servants, however, they had extra duties that revolved around the castle, such as; preparing my baths, fixing my food, dusting my room, and fixing up the castle whenever it's in need of repair. And of course, they do the same for the Phantom Mutiny whenever they visit us from time to time.

"I have prepared your bath, Lord Emperor." Said Mona.

"I have prepared your meal, Lord Emperor." Pronounced Aiko.

"And I have picked out your clothes for tonight, Lord Emperor." Said Keiko.

"I see, thank you. Your help is very much appreciated, I should reward you all for your hard work."

"Do you truly mean that, Lord Emperor?" Asked Aiko.

Wait, did she just question me?

"Uhm— I mean, yes, of course."

("Wait a second, did an NPC just question me? That's not normal, what's up with that?! They usually act like robots and go with the flow; not to mention they're just lines of coding in a game, so what the hell is going on?")

"Tell me, what is it that you desire, Aiko, Keiko, and Mona? There isn't anything in this world that I cannot obtain."

"I want you, Lord Emperor!"

"I refuse."

"Eh???"

I instantly shut Aiko down.

The other two didn't answer, they merely stared down in thought.

Something's not right about this.

NPCs aren't meant to think, have feelings, or express themselves.

I have to get down to the bottom of this, fast.

"If it's fine by you, Lord Emperor, I would like to take a vacation to the West Continent, where Great King Angelica resides. I heard it's peaceful and looks like heaven from the rumors. Lady Angelica is also wonderful, kind, and righteous as ever." Said Keiko.

"I see, so you wish to visit Angelica and her continent. Very well, it shall be done."

"Really? Are you certain my lord?"

"Yes, I'll see to it, Keiko. You've done a great service to me, and all of Ottenmore kingdom, you deserve it."

"Thank you so much, Lord Emperor, you're so gracious and kind."

("Well, I wouldn't say that. Ever since my soul fused with Emperor (Aka, my Game avatar), I started picking up his traits. I'm now more ruthless, and a bit sadistic. I'm assuming it's like that because of the way I made Emperor, so now my soul is becoming one with him. That may sound borderline crazy, but it's the truth. I'm assuming it's the same for the rest of Phantom Mutiny as well.")

"You haven't spoken yet, Mona, what is it that you desire?"

"O-Oh, well… I wish to have more abnormals, maybe? Something like a few vampires, or a couple of undead."

("Oh, right, I forgot she was into that kind of stuff. For so long, Mona has been trying to interbreed with the abnormal race to see if she could create a child with them. It may sound weird, but if someone actually managed to create a hybrid child, it would go down in history.")

"Mona, you disgust me."

From my words alone, she blushed, tilting her head down before hugging herself, "Y-Your majesty, why such hard words?! You know it turns me on..."

"I will not capture any abnormal race for your experiments, do that yourself. And make sure they aren't someone of importance, otherwise, I will have the Demon King and Vampire Queen on my head."

"Y-Yes my lord, I'm sorry for asking for such a thing, I deserve punishment, please initiate it!" Mona fell to her hands and knees, begging.

("She's a total masochist, what was I thinking of making her this way!? Actually, I'm a Great King, I can change the way she acts. Let me do that instead of complaining. She's just an NPC after all.")

Time suddenly froze.

The only ones who could move in the world right now were the Great Kings.

I walked forward, approaching Mona as I extended my hand.

"Unfold."

Mona's personal hub appeared in front of me.

You may be wondering why that's the case, but it's simple;

In Isekai World Online, there's a summoning ritual done in the Main Lobby. You can summon characters you wish to use, which transfers your consciousness into their bodies, or you can summon characters you wish to be companions with. It was your choice.

Each servant that exists in my castle is someone that I summoned from the Ritual Port.

They're all LR's.

If you don't know what that is, it's simple.

You played a Gacha game before, right? Well, all Gacha games have rarities to the characters you summon. In Isekai World Online, those rarities are:

{Rare

Super Rare

Speciality Super Rare

Ultra Rare

Legendary Rare.}

To summon NPCs, you must have WG (World Gems) to do so.

Just in case you forgot, World Gems is Isekai World Online's currency for players.

Only players can obtain World Gems, and by using them, they can unlock certain areas, buy certain locations, purchase certain items in the shop, and even summon NPCs in the Ritual Port at the Main Lobby.

As of now, I have 5'000 of them.

When summoning for an NPC it usually costs 30 WG, so they were pretty expensive.

Also, take into consideration that summoning for NPCs is all luck. You can get some Rare units or Legendary Rare units; it just depends on RNG and how lucky you are.

Since I summoned Mona from the Ritual Port, I could alter her settings whenever I like, including her dialogue, however, it cost 50 WG to do so.

"Alright, this should do it."

A notification popped up in my field of vision.

[YES] [NO]

Of course, I clicked yes, but upon doing so, I couldn't believe my eyes—

"What's this?"

What the hell is Soul Link?!

It was an option I could click on underneath her dialogue settings. I never saw this before, are you telling me that NPCs now have souls?

If that's the case, that means they're all sentient and can act on their own.

Shit—!

That's not good… considering I made a specific NPC meant to cause trouble!!
