Mobuseka:Leon's Adventure

Chapter 49: Royal Family?(1)

It was a beautiful, warm morning in the lands of the Bartfort family. The clear sky illuminated the landscape, and a gentle breeze carried the scents of fresh grass and blooming flowers. On this floating island, people could be seen busily attending to their tasks, their faces beaming with happiness and satisfaction. The reason was simple: the Bartfort lands were thriving thanks to the investments made recently, all due to Leon's efforts. Barcus, who managed the affairs of the estate, had directed substantial resources toward developing every aspect of life on the island. This had transformed it into one of the finest places to live in the entire kingdom.

The prosperity of the land attracted not only commoners but also prominent merchants, drawn by the comforts and opportunities the island offered. Over time, the floating island itself had undergone significant changes. It had been expanded and remodeled. Now, the two Bartfort family homes—one a barony and the other a viscounty—stood close to each other, separated only by a small distance.

However, a portion of Leon's territory remained off-limits to most people. This area was accessible only to family members and a select few who had Leon's personal permission. The reason for these restrictions was clear: it housed natural hot springs, various cultural attractions, and even high-tech factories producing robots and ships.

Despite the success of his endeavors, Leon found himself frustrated by one matter. Over the years, he had managed to acquire three powerful AIs, but he had hoped to discover more. Unfortunately, his search had proven far more challenging than anticipated.

"Why is this so difficult?" Leon once asked Luxion, one of his AIs.

"It's due to their condition," Luxion began to explain. "Most AIs remain in dormant mode. They only awaken under two circumstances: if an intruder enters their territory or if they detect the creation of new humans. For example, when Arcadia arises, all AIs will simultaneously come online."

Leon let out a heavy sigh and rubbed his temples, feeling the stress building.

"Ugh, just another headache…" he muttered.

Suddenly, his three AIs materialized before him. Their presence was so intense and foreboding that, for a brief moment, Leon thought they had come to kill him. However, to his surprise, they asked a completely different question:

"Where is Arcadia? You must know."

Leon felt a wave of relief wash over him, realizing the danger had passed. After a moment of thought, he replied:

"I can tell you which country it's in. But even if you know, I doubt you'll find it before it awakens. It's hidden somewhere in the Voldenowa Holy Magic Empire. But don't even think about going there."

The AIs froze, their expressions unreadable, before one of them finally spoke:

"Why not? Wouldn't it be better to eliminate it early and prevent the threat?" Luxion asked.

Cleare and Legion nodded in agreement, their collective gaze focused on Leon.

But Leon, frowning, responded firmly:

"Because that empire is teeming with entities similar to it. In the novel I read, it took an entire hundred AIs to fight it. Even if they don't pose an immediate threat to you, I assure you, as soon as Arcadia senses your presence, it'll awaken even sooner. That would only cause more problems. Focus on preparing for the future instead of chasing easy solutions that might backfire."

With that, Leon turned and headed for the door.

The AIs, momentarily stunned by his words, called after him:

"Where are you going, Master?"

Glancing back at them, Leon answered with a faint smile:

"To Colin. I promised him we'd play together today."

And with those words, he left the room, leaving his AIs to ponder his advice.

In the courtyard of the Bartfort family estate, the sun shone brightly, casting a golden glow over everything. The sound of laughter echoed as Leon played with his younger brother, Colin. The boy was radiant with joy, but not long ago, things had been quite different. Colin had been upset. The reason was simple: despite his admiration for Leon, he was unhappy that his older brother had stopped spending time with him.

Leon, being a caring and observant older brother, quickly noticed Colin's change in mood. One day, he approached him with a suggestion.

"Hey, Colin. Want to play?" he offered.

Colin, unable to hold back his emotions, burst into tears and hugged Leon tightly, whispering through sobs, "Thank you, Leon!"

And now, here they were, playing in the courtyard.

Their game was simple but thrilling. Leon had crafted a makeshift wooden sword for Colin, while he himself held a wooden shield. Together, they reenacted a knightly duel. Colin took on the role of a brave knight defending his castle, while Leon played the part of a fearsome dragon.

"Beware, foul beast! I, Sir Colin, shall protect our castle!" Colin shouted dramatically, charging at Leon.

Leon playfully staggered backward, pretending to be struck by an invisible blow.

"Ah, no! You've defeated me! But I'll be back!" he declared, collapsing onto the grass in mock defeat.

Colin laughed loudly, hopping in place with glee, his earlier sadness completely forgotten.

Their joyful game was interrupted when Finley, their older sister, approached. Arms crossed, she stood nearby, her expression sour.

"As always, you only care about your brothers. Stupid Leon!" she snapped.

Leon glanced at her, let out a long sigh, and replied, "Good morning to you too, Finley. What do you want?"

Finley huffed, tossing her hair over her shoulder. "I want you to pay attention to me! I'm your sister too, you know!" She then extended her hand dramatically. "Oh, and some money would be nice."

Leon raised an eyebrow, pretending to be confused. "Sister? I have a sister? Where is she?" He exaggeratedly looked around as if searching for someone.

From behind him, Luxion, who had been observing in stealth mode, chimed in sarcastically, "A performance worthy of an Oscar."

"Shut up," Leon shot back, suppressing a grin.

Finley's face fell as her act crumbled. Her lips trembled, and her voice quivered as she said, "Fine! Go to hell, Leon… I hate you!" She turned and ran off, her voice fading as she shouted, "I hate you!"

Leon sighed heavily, shaking his head, but before he could say anything, a voice came from behind.

"That was uncalled for, son."

Leon jumped and spun around to find Barcus standing behind him.

"Ah! Don't sneak up on me like that, Dad!" Leon exclaimed, taking a step back.

Barcus crossed his arms and gave Leon a stern look. "You shouldn't treat her like that. You're the older brother. Even if she acts like this, you need to rise above it."

Leon rolled his eyes and retorted, "She should start acting like a sister first. Then we'll talk. Anyway, what are you doing here, Dad?"

Barcus, choosing to ignore the sass, pulled out an elegant envelope sealed with the royal family's crest.

"This is for you," he said, handing it to Leon.

Leon examined the envelope carefully. "What's this?"

Barcus smirked. "The royal family is summoning you to the palace to reward you for your accomplishments. But before that, the queen wishes to meet with you personally. It's all written in the letter."

Leon's brows furrowed as he skimmed the contents of the letter. "And how do you know what's in it?"

"The messenger gave me a summary when he delivered it," Barcus replied with a shrug.

Before Leon could respond, he felt a tug on his leg. Looking down, he saw Colin gazing up at him with wide, teary eyes.

"So… you're leaving? You won't play with me anymore?" Colin asked softly.

Leon immediately knelt down and wrapped his arms around his little brother. "I have to go for a little while, but I promise, as soon as I'm back, we'll play together all day long."

Colin sniffled, then clenched his small fists and nodded. "Okay. But promise me!" He held out his tiny fist for a fist bump.

Leon smiled, his heart swelling with affection. He gently bumped his fist against Colin's. "I promise."

Looking at his younger brother's innocent, hopeful face, Leon made a silent vow. When I get back, I'll do something special for him. He deserves it.
