Monster’s Reprieve - Live Another Day

Chapter 7: The Problem Child

———

Underneath the white sky and above the black world, the blue-eyed lady floated in with an intoxicated expression, grinning as she stared down at the mercenary. Crimson fire flooded the heavens as it began raining down on them.

Oh. This was definitely aura.

Running through and avoiding the barrage of energy, the mercenary created thousands of spikes from the ground to intercept the incoming shots. The blue-eyed lady grinned as her eyes glimmered with a tint of purple.

Jumping up and streaking towards the mysterious lady, the mercenary's eyes dimly reflected the red light as she got near. Their hand was enveloped by a black mass, reinforcing their fist.

The witch balled up an abundance of aura and fired it at them in a torrent of glowing energy.

Breaking through the blast, the mercenary slammed her into the ground. Landing with a heavy impact, she pointed her hand at the domain user(who had landed right after her), sending out dozens of condensed aura slashes.

Dashing out of the way and avoiding them, the mercenary grinned creating covers out of black mass. It was so absurd. Domains were essentially the victory condition of most cultivators and here this lady was nearly outzoning them within their own domain with raw power alone.

The mercenary thought it wouldn't take much effort to deal with her, but they realized that was wrong.

Creating a white saber, they cleaved straight through the countless slashes sent at them.

The atmosphere felt a little different now.

Dropping her crazed smile to a much calmer one, the lady created a blue halo on the tip of her fingers. Holding it above her head and letting go, it sat there in the air.

The hot red energy she'd released earlier began to pool around her. Reabsorbing the aura, the cracks left behind disappeared.

It was quite the sight. No aura user the mercenary had fought before had so much in store or with such properties. She was more like an aura manipulation artist than an aura user. One couldn't simply move aura like that. Unleashing it and reeling it back in, sending out countless attacks from a cloud of aura you made in the sky, even just the floating(possibly flying), none of that was something a normal aura user could do.

Most aura users in general could only output it in a direction or infuse weapons, maybe even create crystals with their aura, but long-ranged and detailed aura control outside of the body? That was just plain unrealistic.

It would be like fighting a dragon, having it spit a fireball at you, only to find out it can swerve the fireball, shoot mini fireballs out of that fireball, and then bring the fireball back when it's done.

Finished taking in the energy, a few red flames of aura sat on her and her clothes.

Ripping off their jacket to reveal a black tank top underneath, the mercenary stood in a poised stance. Their arms were noticeably toned with muscle. Light on their feet, they slashed through the air and flourished the white blade, warming up.

Aiming the white saber at the enigmatic lady, black markings covered it, seemingly seeping out from the hand of the mercenary.

An orb of blackish-red energy was made in the palm of the lady's hands. As the mercenary sent out a massive black slash that consumed everything in its path, she fired the red ball. Shooting into the wave of darkness, it blocked and diverted the attack from hitting her, splitting it in half.

The orb of raw condense energy continued to move forth, unhindered by the attack. Slamming into the blade of the mercenary it expanded and began enveloping everything around.

Bringing their sword back and cleaving through the growing explosion, the mercenary created dozens of pitch black longswords and sent them at her.

Right now, the strength of the domain was being sealed off. The mercenary managed to cast the domain but it was limited. Likely due to this lady. Her blue eyes glimmered as she smiled.

Each blade seemed to swerve away from or fly straight past her. It seemed that the sheer presence of her aura was enough repel it.

The mercary frowned. "Repulsion. Consumption. Whiter than white. Blacker than black. Come forth and deal neither. I permit."

The area around the mercenary began to distort. The sky and ground seemed to begin mixing.

White and black swirling all around them. Pushing and pulling force coming together, a orb of grey was made in their hands, capable of rending anything that came into contact apart. Fashioning it into a handless blade, it began spinning rapidly, before they sent it flying towards the aura user.

Blocking with her forearm, her eyes widened as the grey blade embedded itself in it.

Behind her, the mercenary had appeared, rearing up once more to throw a punch. Strike!Swiftly turning around, she threw a counter kick in response. As the two strikes collided, the blue eyed lady was blown back by the force of impact.

They didn't let up as they ricocheted her in the air with crazy quick speed.

Until, the mercenary flickered above her, forcing reality distorted around the two, black and white combined, and an orb of grey was created in between them.

Slamming her fist into the grey orb, it was forced down onto the witch. She raised her arms and held the attack back.

Dashing back to watch, the mercenary took a breath, as the grey orb rapidly got bigger, eventually covering the blue eyed lady.

The mercenary couldn't help but smile exasperatedly. Holes leaking red light formed in the grey orb before it exploded with an insane output of raw aura. As the red faded, the witch stood with the sleeves of her shirt ripped.

Taking a breath, the witch smiled before opening her mouth, "-

*BANG*

Before she should say a word, a crack formed in the sky as two figures crashed in.

Slamming into the ground, the monster coughed out blood with a smile, with the reincarnate on top of him, blood pouring from his eyes like tears.

Smiling, he waved at the lady, before being slammed away by the monster brushing him aside.

Digging a sword into the ground to stablize himself, he quickly recovered, leaning on the hilt. He noticed that the floor seemed to… drag him towards it, and the air was actually pretty heavy. This was odd.

Besides that, the four now stood across from each other.
