Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Fated Bond
Atlas was drifting in and out of sleep, hovering on the edge of consciousness. His body was heavy, but his mind was beginning to stir. He could hear voices, faint and distant, as though coming from another world. Gradually, they became clearer, and he recognized the voices of Elara and Devin.
"Devin was telling her about his family," Atlas thought, straining to listen.
"My village was destroyed by the master's warriors," Devin was saying. "He is relentless in his pursuit to take over more lands and more packs. Those who resist either die or become slaves."
There was a pause, and then Devin asked, "What about your family, Elara? Are they still alive, since you were taken captive too?"
Elara's voice was soft and filled with uncertainty. "I don't remember anything about my past except what I told you. I woke up as a slave and knew nothing of myself except my first name and how old I was."
Atlas felt a pang of sympathy for Elara. Her face must have dropped in despair, as he heard the sadness in her voice. "What a great pair," she said sarcastically. "A nameless slave and a slave with a name but basically no memory."
She glanced over at Atlas, noticing his brow furrowing even in unconsciousness. "For someone who has suffered so much, I don't know how he still has compassion," she mused, absentmindedly reaching out to stroke his cheek.
The instant her hand made contact with his skin, Atlas felt a surge of electricity prickling all over his body. The sensation was both jarring and invigorating, starting from where she touched him and traveling throughout his entire being. It stirred something deep within him, awakening him from the depths of darkness.
"Look!" Devin exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement. "I think he's finally coming out of it!"
Atlas's eyes began to stir, fluttering as he struggled to open them. Devin rushed over, holding his breath in anticipation. Elara, full of apprehension, reached out once again to hold Atlas's strong hand.
The moment her hand touched his, Atlas snapped awake, his eyes locking directly onto hers. He was the same yet different, something had changed within him. His once mysterious blue eyes now shone silver like the full moon, a sign of his true nature.
"MATE!" Atlas's voice rasped out, only huskier and almost a growl.
Elara's eyes widened in shock, and she felt a surge of emotions wash over her. Devin looked on in awe, understanding the significance of what had just transpired.
Atlas struggled to sit up, his body still weak but his spirit stronger than ever. He looked at Elara, a sense of recognition and connection in his eyes. "You're my mate," he said softly, his voice filled with wonder.
Elara's heart raced, her mind spinning with the implications. "Atlas, I... I don't know what to say," she stammered, her emotions overwhelming her.
Atlas squeezed her hand gently, a reassuring smile on his lips. "We'll figure it out together," he said. "All three of us."
Devin nodded, his eyes filled with determination. "We have a lot to do, but we'll stand by you, Atlas. Whatever it takes."
The prophecy was beginning to unfold, and Atlas knew that they had the power to change the world. Together, they would confront the forces that sought to control them, and they would rise above the darkness to bring about a new dawn.
