Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Strong Assault (IV)
Chapter 90: Strong Assault (IV)
"Tricks and illusions!"
Facing Alex's attack as he charged once more, the Destruction Mage roared furiously. Raising his hands, he summoned blazing hellfire in his palms. He then swung his arms forward, releasing the scorching flames that engulfed Alex entirely.
However, in the next moment, the flames expanded and exploded, revealing Alex once again. This time, though, a circular, transparent shield had appeared in front of him.
To the Destruction Mage, however, this was nothing significant. He waved his hand once more, causing the scattered hellfire to reassemble into the shape of a massive, ferocious beast resembling a lion. With a roar, it lunged towards its prey.
Meanwhile, Alex also raised his right hand.
In an instant, an invisible force of psionic energy shot forth. The Destruction Mage saw the air in front of him twist violently, and the next moment, the hellfire beast was torn to pieces by the mighty, unseen force. The Destruction Mage's eyes widened as he stared intently at the man before him.
"Long-range attacks, you say? I can do that too."
Alex's lips curved into a sinister smile. "So, being a mage is impressive, huh? Is it fun being a turret? How about trying some psionic energy?"
So, it's a head-to-head showdown? You think I'm scared of you?! If Arthas and Malthael don't dare to use this, do you think I won't dare to use Kerrigan? Damn, even without the Zerg Swarm, psionic impact alone will crush you!
With this thought, Alex continued his assault. Another surge of psionic energy condensed in his hand and shot toward the Destruction Mage! In response, the Destruction Mage roared, summoning hellfire once more and throwing it forward. Soon, the invisible psionic energy collided with the hellfire, resulting in another explosion.
However, the Destruction Mage failed to notice that a small figure had silently appeared near the strange statue behind him.
Staring at the statue, Ikaros furrowed her brows. Moments ago, she had received Alex's order: "Find a way to destroy this statue, no matter what it's doing. Just disrupt the ritual completely!"
The moment had arrived. Seeing that the Destruction Mage's attention was entirely focused on Alex, Ikaros quickly extended her hand, pressing it against the statue as she whispered, "Invasion initiated!"
As Ikaros whispered, a faint blue glow appeared in her palm. The light then began to seep into the statue, spreading throughout its interior. However, Ikaros's expression did not ease up. On the contrary, as the invasion progressed, her face grew increasingly pale.
"What is this? Could it be... No, this is bad!"
Before Ikaros could react, the strange six-armed serpent statue suddenly turned its head to stare at her. Two beams of green light shot out from its eyes, striking Ikaros!
"Ahhh!"
"Not good!"
Hearing Ikaros's scream, both the Destruction Mage and Alex were stunned. They quickly turned toward the source of the sound, only to see the six-armed serpent statue glowing with a green light. The green glow seemed to form a giant serpent that coiled tightly around Ikaros!
"What did you do to the sacred statue?!"
"Damn it!"
Seeing this, both the Destruction Mage and Alex were shocked. Without hesitation, Alex darted forward, leaving a trail of illusions behind as he raced towards Ikaros. Noticing Alex's movements, the Destruction Mage hurriedly summoned hellfire once more and hurled it at him.
"You will not approach the sacred statue!"
"Tch!"
Sensing the incoming hellfire, Alex gritted his teeth. His right hand flickered with the glow of a sword, and in the next moment, the ground he passed over seemed to bristle with stone slabs that rose like a dragon's reverse scales, forming an imperfect shield that intercepted the hellfire. Simultaneously, Alex switched back to the Soul Stone of Arthas and pointed his sword at Ikaros.
Protective Blessing!
Following his action, a transparent oval shield materialized, enveloping Ikaros. The giant green snake that had been coiling around her was forced backward by the powerful force. However, the green serpent seemed unwilling to give up. Hissing angrily, it lunged toward the little angel once again, only to be blocked by the seemingly fragile, transparent shield.
Get lost!"
At the same time, Alex reached Ikaros's side. Without hesitation, he swung his sword at the green serpent. Sensing the holy power emanating from Alex's sword, the serpent let out an angry hiss and retreated back into the statue.
"I-I'm sorry, Master..."
"Are you alright? Are you hurt?"
"No, Master. Thank you... But I managed to uncover the workings of this statue. Master, be cautious; this statue is merely a pointer. Its true function is—"
"Boom!!"
Before Ikaros could finish her sentence, the already crumbling statue suddenly exploded. Alex saw that same green, eerie serpent emerge once more, this time lunging at the approaching Destruction Mage. However, the Destruction Mage showed no signs of fear. Instead, he gazed at the serpent with an uncontrollable smile on his face.
"Finally, my day of destruction has arrived! Lord, please use my body as you see fit!"
Before his words even finished, the serpent crawled onto the Destruction Mage's body and slithered right into his mouth!
What the—! That's just disgusting!
Despite the disgust churning within him, Alex didn't hesitate. Almost immediately after the serpent entered the Destruction Mage's mouth, he appeared before his enemy again, raising the Doomsword high above his head, the holy light on the blade shining even brighter.
Judgment of the Paladin!
The silver-white sword light seemed to tear through the very fabric of the world. Even in the pitch-black darkness of the plains, the burst of holy light illuminated the surroundings. To Alex, this thunderous strike was enough to completely obliterate his opponent.
However, it did not go as planned.
The Doomsword's blade halted mid-air. The Destruction Mage had extended his right hand, stopping the otherwise unstoppable blow. He lifted his head, coldly glaring at Alex before breaking into a sinister grin. At that moment, Alex noticed a glimmer of firelight flashing in the mage's eyes.
Not good!
Relying on instincts honed from countless deaths in the Dark Souls world, Alex pulled back his sword and leaped away without hesitation. He grabbed Ikaros, holding her close, and rolled rapidly backward. Just then, the Destruction Mage's body exploded!
"Boom!"
The ground seemed to quake as massive flames engulfed the entire altar, sending a towering mushroom cloud into the sky. The sheer impact made Alex's ears ring. Thankfully, his body had been enhanced by the Zerg, or else who knows what might have happened.
This damned bastard, self-destructing without warning—what the hell is he trying to do?
Cursing under his breath, Alex looked up, only to find himself staring in disbelief.
On the altar, the Destruction Mage had vanished. In his place stood a two-meter-tall creature with the upper body of a woman and the lower body of a snake. She had six arms, each holding a different weapon—swords, shields, and more. The six-armed serpent demon now stared coldly at Alex and Ikaros, saying nothing.
Could this be the six-armed serpent demon lord, Bella?!
