My Cursed life in Highschool DxD

Chapter 111: Chapter 3

~Azazel's POV~

"Azazel, you can't be serious!"

I didn't respond immediately, dodging a blow from Penemue with an exaggerated sigh. Turning back to the equipment I was gathering, I muttered. "The radar is something Ryou and I used years ago. It tracks a specific magical wave signature, one unique to him."

She still wasn't convinced. Her voice carried a mix of frustration and concern as she countered, "Didn't you say his daughter has the same magic? What if it's her or someone else with a similar aura?"

My hands clenched, the subtle tremor betraying the emotions I fought to hide. "I know that, Penemue," I said through gritted teeth before exhaling heavily. "But I need to believe it's him." 'I need to know what really happened that day.'

Penemue brushed past me, muttering something under her breath. I didn't catch it, didn't want to. My gaze shifted to the blinking radar, its faint light reflecting my desperation.

"Please… let it be you, kiddo."

~Scene Change~

"Didn't think Mount Fuji would be the place I'd find you." I muttered, walking along the cold rocky surface. My eyes locked on the figure ahead, radiating magic identical to Sasaki Ryou's.

"Your family's been through hell since you left us, kid." I said, stepping closer. My voice grew harsher, my fists tightening as memories surged. "Where the hell have you been—"

I froze mid step.

The figure turned, its movements unnatural. As it approached, the truth hit me like a thunderbolt.

"You're not—"

My head snapped to the side as a shockwave narrowly missed me, stray hairs scattering in the wind. The figure blurred, reappearing in front of me.

"Who are you?" I demanded, my tone sharpening.

There was no response. Instead, it lashed out with a swift kick aimed at my torso. I leaned back just in time, grabbing its leg and slamming it to the ground.

"Listen—"

Before I could finish, it lunged again. Its strike collided with my raised arm and I felt something flow through my body as well as the sickening crunch of bones breaking under the force. Staggering back, I glanced at my mangled hand. My ribs ached but I ignored the pain.

'A shockwave? This isn't the kid…'

As I healed, I studied it more carefully. Its body though shaped like Ryou's, was composed entirely of dark purple magic, its form unstable and constantly shifting.

A bitter laugh escaped me. "All right, then. Let's see what you've got."

I surged forward, aiming a low kick at its knees. The blow landed but had no effect. The creature retaliated, its palm shooting toward my chest with inhuman speed.

'Doesn't feel pain, huh?'

Grabbing its arm mid thrust, I swung a kick to its head, only to find myself slammed into the ground. Groaning, I looked up spotting a violent shift in the magic surrounding its foot.

"Oh, shi—"

~Eri's POV~

"Mura?"

I glanced up from my homework, looking at Muramasa as he lay silently beside me.

'We need to get to Mount Fuji.'

Tilting my head, I frowned. "Why?"

Muramasa sighed, his voice heavy. 'For the past few hours, I've been feeling your father's emotions.'

My heart leapt into my throat. "Dad's alive?!"

The hope that surged in me was short lived as Muramasa's voice cut through it like a blade. 'No. He is not.'

I frowned, my chest tightening as the weight of his words sank in. "Then what—"

'I don't know why or how, but his emotions whether those he felt before his death or the collective weight of his life have been released into the world. They've taken on a tangible form.'

My confusion must have shown because he quickly simplified it. 'Your father's emotions… are alive.'

"Oh" I murmured, trying to process the strange revelation. A small smile tugged at my lips. "Isn't that fine, though? I mean, it's just—"

'These are not positive emotions, Eri.' he interrupted. 'The emotions that have manifested are of hate, anger, sorrow, fear, and the one I'm most concerned about… chaos.'

I froze. 'Chaos?'

Before I could question him further, I heard a soft cough behind me. Spinning around, I found my mother standing there, her expression unreadable.

"Mama!"

I shot up from my seat, panic bubbling in my chest.

"Eri…"

'Tell her.' Muramasa urged.

I hesitated, glancing between him and my mother's stern gaze. Finally, I sighed and spoke.

"Mama, I can talk to Muramasa."

The room fell silent, tension thick in the air. I closed my eyes, bracing for her anger, but when I looked up, her wide eyes were filled with something else, something softer.

"I-Is that so?" Her voice wavered.

I nodded, unsure what to make of her reaction.

"How long?"

Shrugging, I answered. "More than a year."

She studied Muramasa warily before sighing and kneeling to my level. "And what has he told you?"

I looked to Muramasa, feeling his quiet encouragement. Taking a deep breath, I repeated his words.

"Mura said Dad's negative emotions are in the world… and it's bad."

Her frown deepened. "What happens if they aren't dealt with?"

'Tell her this exactly.' Muramasa said. 'Somehow, the emotions are growing stronger. The longer they remain, the more dangerous they'll become.'

Relaying his words, I watched her face darken with worry.

'Unlike their owner, these emotions lack the mental capacity for reason—' Muramasa's tone sharpened. 'One's here!'

Before I could react, the ground beneath us trembled violently. Magic filled the air, sharp and suffocating.

"Eri!"

Mom grabbed Muramasa with one hand and scooped me up with the other as the walls around us began to shake.
