My Life Journey With Him :)

Chapter 497: The Edge of Day and Night

The ocean mirrored the sky, a vast canvas of fire and gold spreading out to infinity. Standing barefoot on the cool sand, they watched as the sun surrendered its final light, painting the world in hues that no artist could replicate.

But tonight, the beauty only deepened the ache inside.

"You always loved sunsets," one said quietly, their voice lost in the sigh of the waves.

The other was silent, of course. They always would be now.

The breeze tugged at their hair, carrying the faint salt of the sea. They clutched the small urn in their hands, its weight both too much and not enough. The sunset blazed in its final moments, and for the briefest instant, it felt like the sky itself mourned.

"I thought I'd feel you here," they said, staring at the horizon where the ocean bowed to the sky. "You always said this was your favorite part of the day. When the world didn't belong to anyone—just fire and gold, right before everything faded."

They tried to hold onto the colors, but they were already slipping away, replaced by the indigo of night. A sob rose in their throat, sharp and bitter, but they swallowed it down.

"You should've stayed," they whispered, their voice breaking. "You should've stayed for more sunsets."

The ocean lapped at their feet, gentle and cold, as if offering comfort. But there was no comfort in this moment, only the cruel finality of endings. They knelt, scooping a handful of sand, and let it sift through their fingers before opening the urn.

The wind carried the ashes before they could second-guess themselves, scattering them across the waves. The ocean would carry them to places they could never follow.

As the last traces of gold faded into darkness, they felt emptier than ever. The world was vast, but without them, it felt unbearably small.

The night settled in, and the stars began to appear, faint and fragile. Somewhere in the distance, the tide pulled back, as relentless as time itself. They stayed on the sand long after the colors had gone, hoping for one last glimpse of fire and gold, and knowing they would never see it the same way again.
