My Manor

Chapter 100: Physical Examination

In basketball, the body is very important, but it is not everything. Otherwise, there would be almost no place for white and yellow people. Just let those black muscle-bound players dominate the court. Basketball also has rules. Shooting accuracy, court awareness, vision, tactical movement, etc., are all very important.

On the streets of the United States, there are many people with incredible physical fitness, but only a handful of them can make it to the NBA.

However, although the body is not everything in basketball, it is the foundation of all basketball skills. A person with perfect shooting technique but fragile like glass will naturally struggle to survive in the NBA.

Physical testing, as a person's basic data, is naturally the most important.

The person who conducted the physical test for Jiang Hai was named Bry-Bo. He was partly from Jiang Hai's hometown because he was also of Chinese descent, though he was an ABC (American-born Chinese) who only knew a little Chinese. He was fluent in English, which made Jiang Hai feel somewhat out of place.

It was certainly not a pleasant experience to speak English with someone who looked similar to someone you were familiar with.

But no matter what, Jiang Hai was quite happy to see him thriving in the NBA.

After entering the equipment room, the first step was the basic physical test, commonly known as the "hardware test"—height, arm span, weight, etc. When measuring his height, Jiang Hai was surprised to see that he had grown taller again.

"Height: 189 cm, weight... Oh, you're not fat, but how come you're so heavy! 240 pounds?" Boone-Bo exclaimed as he looked at the number displayed in front of him. Hearing this, Jiang Hai was momentarily stunned, but then nodded. He knew he would be heavy. This was a matter of muscle density.

Think about Captain America from the Marvel world. He's 1.88 meters tall and weighs 240 pounds. His physical fitness could almost be considered the limit of human potential. Jiang Hai didn't know who was stronger between him and Captain America, but he was certain his muscle density was very high.

"Your muscle density might even be able to stop a bullet!" Bry-Bo said with envy, after pinching Jiang Hai's arm, which was as strong as steel. As a strength assistant coach and fitness coach for the Celtics, they dreamed of having a body like Jiang Hai's. Jiang Hai simply smiled.

Jiang Hai then measured his other data. His arm span was 197 cm. While longer than average, it was not exceptionally long and still within the normal range. Compared to Avery Bradley, who was 1.88 meters tall but had an arm span of 2.02 meters, Jiang Hai's arms didn't seem particularly long. His legs were 107 cm long. While not extremely long, they were still good, at least not one-to-one proportions. He could reach 2.46 meters high while standing.

Next came the physical test for the sports department. First, the jump test. As Bry-Bo set up the equipment, Jiang Hai jumped up. Except for Avery Bradley, who had seen Jiang Hai jump before, Bry-Bo, Louis Turner, and John Turner, who had accompanied Jiang Hai, were all left speechless. Especially John Turner, whose words from Philemon often burst out of his mouth.

"What the hell, are you flying? Are you sure you're not flying? How did you jump so high?" As Jiang Hai landed, John Turner couldn't help but shout. "Damn, is there something wrong with the instrument?" Bry-Bo also muttered as he looked at the data on the device.

"152 cm? Damn, your instrument is fine, but he really has that much power." Looking at the numbers, Avery Bradley also swore quietly. He had suspected that Jiang Hai's jumping ability was amazing, but he didn't expect it to be that extraordinary! There's no special century record for standing reach in the world.

When it comes to jumping, the first names that come to mind are NBA players. Among them, the player with the highest jumping ability is Little Potato Webber, followed by Francis, AI, Nate Robinson, and other short dunkers. The standing jump ability of these players is around 1.2 meters, which is impressive, especially during their peak years.

The legendary Vince Carter has a standing jump of around 1.1 meters, and Michael Jordan's strongest jump is about the same as Carter's.

However, the most famous jumper is Earl McColt. While the name may be unfamiliar, his nickname—the Goat—might ring a bell. He was a streetball legend known for picking up coins and twenty-cent bills from the top of the backboard. At only 1.88 meters tall, his jumping ability was estimated between 1.5 meters and 1.55 meters. Jiang Hai's physique could be considered the limit of human body strength.

Therefore, Jiang Hai had to jump higher than the Goat!

If this wasn't jaw-dropping enough, the next results were even more astonishing.

In the 100-meter sprint, he clocked 9.61 seconds, just 0.03 seconds shy of the world record of 9.58 seconds. This was due to Jiang Hai not being accustomed to the starting block, making his reaction time a little slower. If he trained for a while, breaking the world record would not be impossible. The series of speed tests that followed left them astounded.

Three-quarter sprint: 2.93 seconds. Baseline return run: 9.72 seconds...

After recovering from the shock, Jiang Hai prepared for another important test—the bench press.

At first, Boone-Bo loaded 120 kg, and Jiang Hai pressed it several times. Though heavy, he felt no strain. After completing ten reps, he requested more weight, and they added another 60 kg, bringing the total to 180 kg. Still, it felt easy.

"Damn, do you know how many people in the league can bench press 180 kg?" Bry-Bo muttered, amazed at how easily Jiang Hai handled the weight. The heavier lifts were usually reserved for centers.

"I don't know, but I think it's still too light. Let's add another 50 kg!" Jiang Hai casually replaced the barbell and stretched his wrist before speaking to Bry-Bo.

"50 kg? That's too risky. You know, the strongest Ben Wallace in the NBA can only bench press about 200 kg. Why don't you try 200 kg first?" Louis Turner, an assistant coach for a high school team, chimed in, though he didn't expect Jiang Hai's strength to be so formidable.

"Okay!" Jiang Hai responded, and once 200 kg was added, he felt it was still too light. He felt that nearly a third of his strength wasn't being utilized. 200 kg was still far from his limit.

"No, it's too light. Add more, another 50 kg..." After thinking for a moment, Jiang Hai instructed Bry-Bo to load more weight. The four men exchanged looks of disbelief.

Though they had a vague sense of Jiang Hai's impressive muscle density earlier, seeing his raw strength left them speechless.

250 kg? For Jiang Hai, it was just a little more effort. After ten more reps, he placed the barbell back on the rack and looked at Bry-Bo. This time, Bry-Bo didn't say much; he just added 10 kg increments, working his way up to 300 kg. At that point, Jiang Hai felt some pressure. It wasn't until 320 kg that he felt he had reached his limit.

Currently, the world record without power-assisted equipment is 722 pounds, or 327 kg. Jiang Hai could lift 320 kg without training, which was enough to make everyone there lose their minds.

The barbell was nearly bending, but Jiang Hai still lifted it steadily.

"Bang!" After five more reps, Jiang Hai placed the barbell back. For the first time, he felt his arms slightly sore. It seemed that 320 kg was his limit.

"What a beast! Big brother, you're my hero! Can you teach me how to get that strong?" As Jiang Hai set the barbell down, the others fell silent, while John Turner eagerly asked with envy.

"This can't be taught. It's innate. You should ask your dad. I don't train at the manor," Jiang Hai replied with a shrug. Although he occasionally practiced boxing and running in the manor, it wasn't anything impressive, but to the others, Jiang Hai's physical prowess was nothing short of shocking.

"This monster..." Bry-Bo murmured under his breath, doubting whether Jiang Hai was even human. How could his body be so strong?

After completing the physical tests, Jiang Hai followed Bradley to the training ground downstairs.

Despite the excitement of the carnival night, the team had no holiday since there was a home game scheduled for tonight.
