Chapter 36: Bid on a Treasure
"I don't know... It's gut feeling that it's not a real."
Leo sighed deeply, his frustration evident. "I should have listened to you earlier. Regret won't help me now."
The first item quickly passed, and the woman was already signaling for the next one. A small seal was brought forward. "This is the seal of a vassal king from the Sapphire Dynasty," she announced with confidence. "It's valued at least 10 million."
The audience, however, remained indifferent. Leo's earlier misstep had made everyone cautious. Additionally, seals like this were often faked, and their authenticity could only be confirmed after using macinficent glass. The seal's immaculate condition made it even more suspicious to the crowd.
Despite the hesitance, a few brave souls placed bids, and the price soon climbed over one million. Leo, however, remained still, studying the seal from a distance.
"Something's not right," he muttered. "It's too well-preserved to be genuine." He had looked at seal, although couldn't touch it, It's in good condition.
Jack, however, had a different take. He activated his Celestial Eyes. To his surprise, the seal was real. It was the seal of King The Third of the Sapphire Dynasty. Though the third king wasn't a prominent figure, the fact that his seal had survived made it an item worth tens of millions.
Jack's pulse quickened, but he kept his excitement in check. Instead of acting on impulse, he turned to Leo and said calmly, "Uncle Leo, I want to bid on this seal."
Leo's eyes widened in disbelief. "What? Are you sure about that?"
Jack nodded. "I'm . Trust me. If you have concerns, I bid on my own."
Leo studied Jack for a moment, weighing his options. He had always trusted Jack's instincts, and despite his earlier loss, he was tempted to follow Jack's lead. After a long pause, he sighed. "Jack, if you're confident, go ahead. Use Noble Collection's account. I'll back you up."
With Leo's approval, Jack didn't hesitate. He quickly entered a bid of two million on the quotation machine.
The woman glanced at the screen and, with a hint of surprise, announced, "Room 9, Area A, has bid two million!"
The room buzzed with chatter. Jack's bold move had doubled the current bid, something that was rarely seen so early in an auction. All eyes turned toward him.
"Who's that young man in Room 9?" someone murmured.
"He's with Boss Leo," another replied. "Looks like they're planning to leave with nothing at this rate!"
Laughter rippled through the crowd, and Leo's reputation made him the center of attention. Someone bid again.
Jack's face remained calm. Without hesitation, he raised his bid again, this time to three million.
The room fell into stunned silence.
Leo, too, was taken aback. Three million was no small sum, especially considering his earlier loss. He leaned in toward Jack, his voice low. "Are you sure about this?"
Jack nodded, his face set with determination. "I'm not entirely sure, but I want to take this chance."
Leo paused, then nodded firmly. "All right. Three million it is. I'll cover it. Go ahead."
He trusted Jack, even if the risk was high. After all, he reasoned, this could be a valuable lesson for Jack. If the seal turned out to be fake, it would only cost him three million, but the experience gained could be worth much more in the long run.
Many were suspicious of Jack, wondering could he even take out three million.
The room's attention was Jack, curious about the newcomer's confidence. Leo, sensing the mounting pressure, stood up and announced loudly, "Jack represents Noble Collection, and any bid he makes is my bid. Do you think I can't afford three million?"
The woman on stage, sensing the tension, kept things moving. "Three million from Room 9, Area A! Does anyone wish to raise the bid?"
The room remained silent. Three million was more than most were willing to gamble, especially this early in the auction. Leo himself, despite his earlier confidence, wouldn't have pushed the price so high unless he was sure of the item's authenticity.
Finally, the woman smiled and knocked the gavel. "Sold to Room 9, Area A, for three million!"
Jack exhaled in relief, wiping a bit of sweat from his brow. He had feared someone might recognize the seal's true value and push the price even higher. Now, all he had to do was wait for the final appraisal.
