Chapter 47: Getting a Carriage
After all night of cultivation, Olen was too tired to do anything else.
He fell asleep in the bathtub.
So, Elena had no choice but to put him to bed on the second floor.
The sun was already up. So, she didn't go to lean on her bed. She had to do something in the morning.
So, she had to wait for the maid to show up with her breakfast. But since the maid was scheduled to come later, she decided to go out to take a walk.
It felt nice to walk early in the morning now and then. There was a bit of fog lingering here and there. The dew could be accumulated on top of the grass.
Because she sleeps in till pretty late, she doesn't get to see this scenery.
She removed her shoes to walk on the soft grass. It just felt so nice.
In no time, her feet got washed with the cool dew on the grass. Winter is near. The wind was feeling a bit colder today.
Normally, if she felt chilly, she would've just covered herself with spirit energy. That way, even if she is on a snow mountain, she wouldn't feel any difference.
But since she didn't want to use her spirit for a long time, she felt this feeling.
A lot of things that are happening right now are new to her.
No, it's not that new. It's just... She didn't realize the joy of these things here. Now she understood why some people would like to become hermits and live a peaceful life.
But still, that was not her. It's fine to enjoy these things every now and then, but it's not enough to change her mindset to live in seclusion. She still liked the bustle of life in the city more.
She was thinking this and that when she arrived at the stable.
She wanted to ask them to prepare a horse carriage for her. She has to go to the Alchemy pavilion to see Moscov. She also wanted to look at the city.
She had been cooped up here for more than two months. Now, she wanted to give the place a little closer look.
She got on the pavement and put on her shoes before entering the stable.
But just as she entered, she was shocked.
She blinked twice to see if she saw it right.
"Hay, Jon, is that you?" –She asked.
She saw Jon removing the horse shit with a shovel.
Hearing Elena calling him, Jon looked up and found her looking at him.
"No, no, you got the wrong person. I'm Bob. I just... look like Jon." –Jon made a quick judgment of the situation and turned around.
Elena's brows twitched. Bob… if you are picking a made-up name, can't you pick one that isn't screaming I'm a made-up name? Then again, she isn't one to comment on that.
"I guess I don't need to know who and why you are here." –Elena. "I need a carriage to go out. Can you prepare it?"
"What? Why?" –Jon turned to look at her.
"Why would you need to know that? Bob… Just make sure to send a carriage after breakfast. I need to go out." –Elena said.
"Why… I mean, what would I tell the carriage driver or the horses? Like, how much the horse needs to run? You know… the mileage issues." –He gave an awkward expression.
Jon wanted to prevent this lady from going out. There was no particular reason for that. But he never thought that was a good idea. No matter where she goes, a guard needs to be attached to her. And it should be a high-ranking one.
With the shortage of capable men, he thought that it would be him who got the job of following her because he was the only one under punishment and had a flexible schedule.
And he knew that it would be a bad idea to follow her.
You know flowers tend to attract bees. This lady is not just a flower but a field of flowers that attracts a lot of bees.
By bees, he meant troubles.
Like the people from the Gerald house for example. They had been snooping around the mansion for two months.
From what he heard, that Mitchel guy gave them an order that, they must know the whereabouts of Elena as well as any information that could be found out if they don't want to get skinned the next time they report.
Those guys have been giving the guards of the mansion a lot of trouble.
And that was from the only time she went outside to visit.
The next time she went out, the 'store incident' happened.
He is sure that there would be no exception this time either.
"Mileage issue? Your horses have trouble running?" –Who is this guy kidding? What does he wish to do by saying a word that has no meaning? Elena wonders.
"Yes. You know... After breakfast, the horses feel like sleeping, and they… sleep. So they can't run far. It would be bad if they started sleeping in the middle of the road. That would mean you would be stuck in a place for a long time. You should just call the whole thing off. Just tell me I'll get anything you need, okay?" –Jon said.
"Well, I wanted to get a carriage, but you can't give me one, I guess. Maybe I should walk by myself then." –Elena said. He doesn't understand what Jon is thinking, and she doesn't want to understand these weird guys. She would rather walk than try to make sense of this.
Hearing that, thunder crackled inside Jon's head.
"No, no, no… that is absolutely impossible. You have to take a carriage. How could I let you go anywhere without one? I'll absolutely prepare one that will bring you anywhere. And I say... I will drive it myself so the horses don't sleep on the road. What do you say?" –are you kidding? Her, going out without an escort? That's not even an option. Where would she get an idea like that?
Elena didn't know what to say. Is this guy trying to hit on her by forcefully tagging along? That's not even the slightest chance of that happening… ever.
She had no idea what to say to this 'six-foot-tall muscular joker'. Things make no sense when he opens his mouth.
"Get it ready after breakfast." –Elena left saying so.
Jon smacked his head with his hand. He didn't know what to say. He just tied himself around a time bomb without knowing when it was about to blow up.
.
"So, Master Moscov, what are your thoughts about my proposal?" –Mitchell said after exchanging some pleasantries. He was expecting a positive answer from him today.
But he was destined to be disappointed.
"I've given a deep thought to your proposal, young master. And I've decided..." –Moscov. He was interrupted by Mitchell.
"Of course you did. So pack up your stuff. We will leave for our territory in three days." –Mitchell said smilingly.
"No, no, no. I wanted to say... I won't be going with you, young master Mitchell." –Moscov.
"What?" –Mitchell thought he heard wrong.
"I said you have to leave without me." –Moscov said calmly.
Mitchell got silent for a second, then became angry.
"You, who do you think you are? When I say you to come with me, I'm not asking you, you moron. It means I'm ordering you to come. These two months I gave you were just a show of respect for the skills you have. But in the end, you are just a commoner. How dare you defy me?" –Mitchell got furious hearing the rejection.
It was a crucial time for him. And he was counting on this deal to bear fruit for him. But in the last second, this geezer says he won't do it? How could he take that?
The bodyguards outside came in, hearing the shouts.
"You may not like it, young master, but that is my decision. You may leave now." –Moscov said unafraid.
If someone dared to hurt him inside the Alchemy pavilion, that would be the end of him.
Well, there's always an exception like Jon. But that was a whole different situation. At that time, he didn't exactly harm him, and people knew of the relationship he had with the Alden Family. Even more, Moscov himself put an effort to make the pavilion turn a blind eye to the incident.
But that is different from now. Mitchell is an heir to a noble family. His action has a heavy effect on the family name. So, he wasn't worried that, they would try the same thing with him too.
Mitchell, too knew the situation very well. He looked at him angrily before saying, "It's not over, Moscov. I'll see you next time." –he smiled evilly before turning around.
But just at that moment, he saw a face that had been keeping him awake all night long.
His face lit up like a hundred-watt bulb before saying,
"Oh, hello there, Beauty. I never thought I would be seeing you here. You didn't give me your name last time, but I still learned it somehow. I believe it would be Miss Aniston, Right?" –Mitchell.
From the first day he saw her, he wanted to acquire her so badly. The more time passed, the more it became harder to forget her. Now, when he sees other women, he doesn't even feel a thing. That's why he set a lot of his men to keep an eye on her.
And on this trip, he vowed to bring her back with him. He even planned to visit the Alden house in order to do so. But it seems that won't be needed anymore.
