Shortly after we woke up, Deiki made a rough sketch of the village, before going over the rough locations of our points of interest. The Jonin circled a two spots, before drawing a line to them from the town hall to the circles. He pointed to the first circle.
"Naoya will lure the Chunin, the ninjutsu specialist towards an ambush you two will set in this spot. It is full of rubble from the collapsed houses, which will provide you with cover for most ninjutsu, but it is also clear enough for a wind ninjutsu to clear the Hiding in Mist jutsu. From there it is simply a matter of baiting him into chakra exhaustion." Deiki said, after which, he pointed to the second circle, and said.
"I will lure the Jonin in this location, after which I will engage in combat. As soon as I defeat him, I will come to help you, if needed. If you somehow you manage to kill or restrain your target before me, you can start moving towards my location, but only intervene if I am getting overwhelmed." After saying this, Deiki pulled out some explosive tags, and as he handed them to us he continued.
"Use these carefully, as they are more powerful than most other options on the market. They should be enough to, at the very least, gravely injure the Chunin." With this, our sensei shot up to his feet, and started to head towards the village.
I looked to my two teammates, who both looked unsure of themselves, before sighing and taking after Deiki. We set off towards the town hall. One might wonder why the Kusa Jonin was so sure we would be able to separate the father-son duo. I was wondering just that, as well. And so, with Karin and Baki took off to set up their ambush, and before I could ask, Deiki answered.
"In my recon I also found out that both of them have some 'servants' they are very fond of. If we each kill their 'helpers', the two will come after us without much thought. Hopefully. If not? We will figure something out." Deiki said with a shrug. I felt my eyebrow twitch. Yeah we will 'figure something out' but I could very well die before you think of something...
There was no use in thinking about what we would do if things went wrong. I am a Zenin. Some random plebs from Kiri weren't going to cause me trouble. I would be a failure if that were to happen.
"Appearance." I requested after a moment.
"Black hair, green eyes, has a mole on her left cheek. Her left arm is full of scars from the sons 'fun'."
With that, we both stopped talking, instead focusing on the ruins of the village that just appeared before us. We quickly left the foliage, and made our way towards the town hall. Deiki slipped his fingers under a window, raised it and entered. I followed after him. We had entered a meeting room. It was a spacious room, with a fireplace and many windows for natural light.
Before I could investigate more, Deiki moved out of the room, leaving the door open behind him. I followed after, walking out of the room and into a sparsely decorated hallway. Not long after, Deiki entered a room near the end of the hallway.
As I entered a room, I saw a woman, sleeping on a large bed. She had black hair, and a mole on her left cheek. Deiki signaled me to act when I got the opportunity, as he left the room, probably to get to his own target. As he left the room, I went to the woman. I snapped her neck while she was sleeping. I opened her mouth and stuffed explosive tags in it, before closing it. I then hid in the closet, which was the only piece of furniture in the room, besides the bed. A nice thing about Projection is that I can use an unfinished projection to activate explosive tags remotely.
After a while, a man entered the room. He looked to be around twenty years old, he was bald, he had a scar above his left eyebrow. His eyes were big, black and round. He wore a standard set of Kiri gear, with his Chunin vest still on, but his forehead protector was nowhere to be seen. He had a wide grin on his face, as he pulled out a kunai from his pouch, before approaching the woman. He jumped on the bed, got above the woman, and put his kunai on her neck. Seeing the lack of response, he looked confused.
"Whats wrong with her? Has she kicked the bucket? I thought I didn't cut deep enough for her to die of bleeding" As he spoke out loud, He noticed something sticking out of the woman's mouth. He opened her mouth. I activated the explosive tags.
The wall near the bed was completely destroyed, with a crater in the foundation now formed where the bed once stood. I wiped soot off my face, as the closet where I was hiding was also destroyed by the explosion. A piece of the ceiling fell on my head. I looked up. The town hall was collapsing.
I Projected outside of the building, and as it was crumbling, a figure shot out. It was covered in a charred layer of earth, and as the earth began to fall, I saw my target, undamaged, but very angry, and he was staring daggers at me. I flashed him a confident grin. A person flew right past me, and Deiki exited the building as well. He disappeared in the direction of his target, presumably.
The Chunin went to follow after him, only for me to Project above him, and axe kick him over the top of his head. Seeing that I had his attention, I quickly left for the ambush spot. I Projected out of the way whenever my pursuer would throw kunai or shuriken towards me. At times, water bullets would fly past me, as I navigated through the village towards my teammates.
I entered the ambush spot, and shortly after the target followed me in, a fireball, bolstered by a wind ninjutsu, hit the Chunin. Only for him to emerge unscathed once more, with another layer of earth dropping from his figure. I Projected before him, slashing with a kunai towards his face. To my surprise, instead of blocking or dodging, the rogue shinobi simply clapped his hands. The earth that was still on his body shot out in all directions.
I was thrown back, with pieces of rock having pierced my skin, some even getting in my abdomen, despite my Reinforcement. As that happened, both Karin and Baki had thrown kunai from their hiding places. Most were deflected effortlessly by the Chunin, others missing, and others simply popping after being deflected by the enemies kunai. I had no time to appreciate my teams good use of the basic jutsus to preserve ammo while also tiring our opponent, as a foot was rapidily approaching my face. I dropped to my hands, and kicked upwards as hard as I could.
The Chunin was hit right between the legs, appearing even more enraged. He started to make the hand signs for Hidden in Mist jutsu, and I let him complete it, as I stared at him with a cocky grin. Just as the mist started to appear, it was blown away by a great gust of wind. I Projected in front of him, only to be met with a kick to my stomach.
I hit a collapsed wall, and when I moved my vision back to my opponent, I was met with a fireball mere inches from my face. I Projected to the left of it. Baki was engaged in taijutsu with the Chunin, and he was getting overpowered and out-skilled. The gaps created by the difference in strength were exploited mercilessly. I intervened, with a kick aimed at the rogue's knee.
To my surprise, the kick connected. His leg bent in an unnatural way, but despite that, the Chunin took hold of Baki, caught him by the hand, and slammed him into me. We were sent flying, before hitting another piece of rubble. Baki's head made contact with some concrete, and blood started pouring out of it. I decided his safety would be a problem for later, and turned my vision back to my opponent.
The Kiri shinobi was now pounding Karin long and hard, on the rubble. I don't think that anyone could endure any more pounding, even someone like that red-head wouldn't last long under that kind of abuse...
I projected besides them, and hit the Chunin in the stomach. Karin laid motionlessly on the ground, with blood pouring out of her head, from where she had been pounded. Both my teammates were taken out of the fight.
My opponent had recovered quickly, and went through some hand signs, however, I was not going to allow him to finish the Jutsu. I Projected to his left side, where I had hit his knee, and made my leg kiss his nose. To my surprise, my kick had not affected him much. His nose was broken, but he was still standing firmly on the ground. I continued to watch him, before he suddenly threw a right hook at me.
I blocked his strike, planning to feint chakra exhaustion and catch him off-guard with either a Projection or a full-force Reinforced strike. I weaved and bobbed out of his next attacks, landing a few punches on his chest. An advantage I had not realised he held over me was his reach, it was hard to get any meaningful damage in, being forced to mostly dodge and block.
Out of nowhere, the Chunin hit me point-blank with some water bullets. As I was flying away, I realised he had been slowly forming hand signs with his spare hand, whenever I was forced to block. When I recovered, the rogue shinobi had taken off, in the direction of his father.
I took off after him, wincing in pain with every step. He had hit me many times in my stomach specifically, and now, that constant damage had started to weaken my Reinforcement, especially since I had been depending on it a lot for this fight. My chakra reserves were still above the halfway point to depletion, but it would be ideal if I have at least a quarter left by the end of the fight, in case I had to run away from an enraged Jonin.
I navigated through the rubble, before I saw my target again. I took out some explosive tags my teammates had set up on this path with me, in case they would come in handy. The Chunin started to speak, but I ignored him. I projected before him, stuck my hand in his mouth, and Projected away. His head shortly blew open. Turns out his earth armour doesn't protect his own insides.
As I approached my target, to collect something to prove his death, Deiki suddenly flew out of the rubble. He looked panicked. His eyes were wide, frantically moving side to side. When his eyes landed on me, he relaxed slightly. He opened his mouth to speak, but I pointed behind him.
A man that looked to be in his forties appeared from the spot Deiki had came out of. He wore a similar outfit to his son, but his eyes were sharper, and his hair was tied back in a ponytail. He held a long katana in his right hand. I blinked.
Deiki had engaged him with a kunai, struggling to hold back the man at such a close range. I Projected behind the man. And just as I did, he had turned around, his sword coming towards my neck. I projected back in my previous spot, some sweat dripping off my forehead. I laughed at him mockingly.
"Like father, like son. Both of them disappointments that can't even kill a Genin from a minor village" To my surprise, the man bit my weak taunts. I laughed at him some more, as he ignored Deiki.
Before he could take one step towards me, a kunai had already pierced the skin on his neck. He was then before me, his sword mere millimeters from my eye. I Projected above his sons dead body, where I raised the corpses hand.
"Dad, dad, come join me, I'm scared without you." My grin grew wider, as the mans face darkened even more. I Projected in the sky, as the air in the spot where I was previously on, was now getting sliced into pieces.
Deiki had popped his shoulder back into place, in the time I had been desecrating a corpse. I projected to the ground once more, but, before I could get a word out, his sword had already reached me. I tried to Project myself out of the way of his strike, but he was faster then I expected. The sword stopped a hair widths away from me. The man had a kunai between his eyes. I fell on my back, as I laughed.
I was covered in sweat, blood, and pieces of brain from the fireworks I made from that Chunins head. Deiki towered over me. He looked to not be so happy.
"Do you know how much you risked with that stunt of yours?" Deiki seemed very angry. "Your teammates could be dead." Despite the anger his face displayed, his voice was still quite monotone.
"How so? They are asleep on the ambush site." On Deiki's head, a vein bulged. "The Chunin had placed explosive tags in that whole area."
"Why didn't he use the then? He could have survived with his earth armour jutsu. Also, how do you know that?" My question seemed to stump him momentarily. I kissed the ground. As I rose to my feet once more, a face-shaped imprint was left on that spot. I turned to Deiki, but before I could protest for his unfair treatment of his best student, he spoke.
"He was threatening you with your teammates lives. I originally thought that the explosion was me two other students, not his head." The Jonin took the head of the father and the right hand of the brother, and we set off towards the ambush site.
