Naruto: Call Me Akuma

Chapter 16: The Mission

[The system is operable. Thank you for waiting.]

"Thank God the system is finally done booting," Akuma thought, excitement bubbling within him. He could barely contain his curiosity, eager to see what the system had in store.

Just as he was lost in thought, another notification popped up:

[Thank you for waiting patiently. As a token of appreciation, here is your reward:

All-Seeing Coin: Reveals the difficulty level of a mission. One-time use only. Bonus Mission Coin: Grants access to a bonus mission when the host accepts a mission. Rewards from bonus missions are not as good as the main mission, but there is no penalty for failure. One-time use only.]

As the notification ended, Akuma thought, At least the system knows how long I had to wait for it to become operable. With that, he decided to locate the rewards he had received.

After searching for a while, he discovered them within a mental image—what appeared to be a personal inventory. Strangely, this inventory hadn't appeared during his earlier search but had now become accessible.

It must be because the system has activated, Akuma reasoned. That had to be why functions like the inventory were now unlocked. As he examined the inventory, he noticed it had a specific restriction: it could only store items obtained through the system. After a brief search, he finally found the rewards mentioned in the notification.

What truly caught his attention, however, and filled him with shock, was the presence of two unexpected items: his World Items—the Absolute Dimension Lock Ring and the Clothes of Perfection. Seeing these incredibly powerful artifacts safely stored in the inventory brought Akuma a surge of joy. He had thought these items were lost forever, yet now they were securely in his possession.

For a moment, he considered taking them out to inspect their full capabilities. However, he quickly stopped himself. If he took them out now, his robotic mother would notice. She was always nearby, watching over him. Hiding such extraordinary items from her would be nearly impossible without drawing suspicion. Moreover, since these items weren't granted directly by the system, Akuma feared they might not be stored back in the inventory once removed.

Instead, Akuma focused on something smaller and less conspicuous: the All-Seeing Coin. He imagined pulling it from the inventory, and suddenly, he felt the cold metal in his hand. Looking down, he saw the coin—a gleaming golden disk with an intricate eye engraved at its center. After holding it for a moment, Akuma decided to return the coin to the inventory. He visualized placing it back, and just as before, it vanished from his hand and reappeared in its rightful spot.

The realization that he now had a secure, personal inventory filled him with excitement. This changed everything. He no longer needed to worry about hiding his treasures from others.

Turning his attention to the rewards he had received, Akuma's smile softened. While they weren't overwhelmingly powerful, at least the system acknowledged how long he had waited. It wasn't the most impressive set of gifts, but it was better than nothing. The potential of the All-Seeing Coin and the Bonus Mission Coin intrigued him. They were small tools, but they could make a big difference in the right circumstances.

[New World, New Mission]

System Notes:

This is your primary world. For this mission, you won't need to travel to other fantasy worlds. However, future missions will require you to journey across different fantasy worlds to complete them. After completing each mission, you will return to your primary world. Items cannot be transferred between fantasy worlds and your primary world, except for system-granted rewards and blessings.

[Current Missions:

Show the world you are a genius and powerful baby for 10 years.

Reward: Coin of Life – Revive up to one time upon death.

Show the world you are a dumb baby for 10 years.

Reward: Coin of Immortality – Be immune to all damage for one day every week.

Show that you're a normal baby in front of others for 10 years in this world.

Reward: Coin of Strength – Permanently increases your physical strength by 10%.

Penalty for failing the mission:

One power granted by the main mission or the host's blessing will be taken away. If no blessing or reward is found, the host will lose access to the system forever.

Note: If the host rejects the mission, a new mission will not be available for five years.]

Akuma focused on the mission options that had appeared. The rewards for the first and second missions were incredibly tempting. The thought of choosing the second option—becoming immune to all damage for one day every week—was especially alluring. For a moment, he seriously considered it.

Then he paused, recalling the warning of the mysterious being who had granted him the system: "The reward corresponds to the difficulty." That single reminder doused his excitement. He couldn't afford to be reckless.

He had no idea where he currently was or what kind of environment he was in. He wasn't strong enough to defend himself if things took a dangerous turn. The rewards felt too generous, making him wary of the challenges they might entail.

After careful deliberation, Akuma decided to use the All-Seeing Coin to uncover the difficulty levels of the missions. He couldn't take chances, especially when the stakes involved his life. Holding the coin in his tiny hands, Akuma activated it. The coin slowly disintegrated into thin air. He braced himself for the information it would reveal, knowing it could make or break his decision.

Upon seeing the notification, Akuma quickly dismissed the second mission. Although the reward was highly enticing, the odds of success were too slim. That left the first and third missions to consider.

At first, he considered choosing the first mission. It was labeled as hard difficulty, but the reward—a chance to gain an extra life—was undeniably tempting. However, as he reflected on his current state, he realized it wasn't a practical choice. At the moment, he was just a baby, and even after ten years, he would only be a child—still too weak to protect himself. What good was an extra life if he couldn't avoid dying in the first place?

Turning his attention to the third mission, Akuma saw it as the safer option. Despite its 50/50 chance of success, it aligned perfectly with his plan to remain unnoticed for the next few years. Drawing too much attention in this unfamiliar world could spell disaster. "The nail that sticks out gets hammered down," he reminded himself.

Akuma briefly considered using the Bonus Mission Coin but quickly rejected the idea. Right now, he was just a baby, and no matter what kind of mission the coin might give him, it would be nearly impossible to complete in his current state. With his limited mobility and control, how could he possibly finish a mission, especially when he could barely move? Even something as simple as fetching water would be beyond his reach for at least a year. Given his circumstances, he didn't see any possibility of successfully completing a bonus mission at this time.

Choosing not to take any mission would mean waiting another five years before unlocking new ones—a delay Akuma couldn't afford. After weighing his options, he accepted the third mission.

He resolved to stay low, avoid unnecessary risks, and use the next ten years to grow stronger in silence. It was the best choice to secure his future. While the reward—a 10% increase in physical strength—might not seem like much, it was still progress. For the next few years, he would remain a helpless child, so he intended to use that time wisely: strengthening himself and understanding the world around him.
