"I can't tell you that," Kirito said, shaking his head.
There was a hint of resentment in Yuhi Kurenai's beautiful eyes as she said coquettishly, "Were you just making fun of me earlier?"
Kirito noticed her playful tone and realized that he had firmly won her over. Smiling, he reached into the neckline of her shirt and pulled out the necklace she always wore. The golden ring attached to it glinted softly in the dim light. Changing the subject, he remarked, "So you kept this. Do you remember our little bet from back then?"
Kurenai's face flushed a deep crimson as she turned away. "I don't remember," she muttered, clearly flustered.
"Oh, really?" Kirito smirked knowingly. "Then let me jog your memory. 'When I grow up, I'll date you.' Ring any bells?"
Kurenai's heart raced as her mind flashed back to the young boy who had made that cheeky promise. Who would have thought that the once playful statement would lead to this moment?
Before she could respond, Kirito swept her into his arms in a bridal carry.
"What are you doing?" she exclaimed, her voice wavering between alarm and anticipation.
"Exactly what you're thinking," Kirito replied with a mischievous grin before disappearing into her bedroom.
Soon, a symphony of passion filled the room, a melody only the two of them could create.
The next morning.
As the first rays of dawn peeked through the curtains, the aftermath of the night's events was evident throughout the room. Shreds of fishnet tights, fragments of ninja bandages, and various other articles of clothing lay strewn across the floor. The desk bore signs of an overturned struggle, the bed was a tangled mess, and even the doorframe seemed to carry a faint impression of their "discussions."
Kurenai rested against Kirito's chest, a blanket draped loosely over the both of them, concealing a scene of serene intimacy. Her dark black untamed hair was disheveled, yet she looked more radiant than ever.
Kirito's fingers idly toyed with her hair as he gazed down at her. "Good morning, sensei," he teased softly.
Kurenai groaned, her body sore from their activities. "You're insatiable," she muttered, her tone laced with mock annoyance. "You act like a dog, never knowing when to stop."
Kirito chuckled, clearly amused. "Well, maybe it's because my teacher is too enchanting. And besides, weren't you the one shouting, 'Don't stop!' last night?"
"Kirito!" Kurenai's face turned bright red as she slapped his arm playfully. "You dare bring that up again?"
"Of course," Kirito replied shamelessly. "It's hard to forget something like that."
Kurenai rolled her eyes, though a small smile tugged at her lips. After a moment of playful banter, her expression turned serious. "Why did you come back to Konoha, Kirito?"
Kirito's teasing demeanor softened. "Two reasons," he said. "The first was to see you."
"And the second?" Kurenai pressed, though there was a hint of apprehension in her voice.
Kirito shook his head. "I can't tell you that."
A flicker of hurt passed through Kurenai's eyes. "Is it something dangerous?"
"For you? No," Kirito reassured her. "I promise, I won't do anything to harm Konoha. Not even for the organization."
Kurenai relaxed slightly but continued to look at him intently. "And Izumi? Is she… alive?"
Kirito nodded. "Yes. I saved her the night of the Uchiha massacre. After that, we joined the same organization. They protected us, and I repaid them with my service."
"So, your return…" Kurenai began.
Kirito cut her off gently. "It's nothing to worry about. My main reason for coming was to see you. The rest is secondary."
Warmth bloomed in Kurenai's chest at his words. She leaned closer to him, her earlier doubts slowly fading. "How long will you stay?"
"Until the Chunin Exams are over. That gives us a month and a half to… catch up," Kirito said with a playful smirk.
Kurenai's cheeks flushed again, though she couldn't help but smile. However, a sudden thought caused her to bolt upright, gathering her clothes in a rush.
"What's wrong?" Kirito asked, watching her scramble to get dressed.
"The Chunin Exams start today! I'm Team 8's instructor. I have to be there!" Kurenai exclaimed, tying her forehead protector in place. She slipped on her ninja boots and rushed to the door, pausing only briefly to look back. "Don't leave the room. There's food in the fridge. I'll come back after the exams."
Before Kirito could respond, she was gone, the door shutting firmly behind her.
"She doesn't even say goodbye properly," Kirito muttered with a smirk, stretching before getting out of bed.
Elsewhere in Konoha.
Back at the hotel, Pakura and Uchiha Itachi were already waiting when Kirito returned. While Pakura appeared calm and composed, Itachi looked noticeably worn out, with faint dark circles under his eyes.
"Looks like someone didn't sleep well," Kirito remarked, slipping into his Rain Village disguise. "You didn't spend all night watching your dear little brother, did you?"
Itachi's eyes narrowed slightly. "Let's just get going. The registration for the exam closes in fifteen minutes."
"Tsk, such a charming personality," Kirito teased before glancing at Pakura. "By the way, Pakura, what was it like when you first participated in the Chunin Exams?"
Pakura smiled slightly. "I never took the Chunin Exams. I was promoted directly to Jonin because of the war. But you must have some experience, right?"
Kirito shrugged. "Not really. The Third Hokage pushed me straight to Jonin for his own reasons. But Itachi here might have a story or two, considering he was the youngest Chunin in Konoha's history."
"Enough talk," Itachi snapped, clearly irritated. "Let's go."
The trio made their way to the registration area, which also served as the venue for the first round of the Chunin Exams. As they approached, a commotion caught their attention.
Rock Lee was in the midst of giving Sasuke a thorough beating. The latter, bruised and battered, was sprawled on the ground, his usual composure shattered.
Kirito leaned casually against the railing, watching the scene unfold. "Looks like your little brother tried to show off and got put in his place," he said to Itachi with a smirk. "Poor guy can't catch a break."
Itachi remained silent, though his gaze lingered on Sasuke for a moment longer than necessary.
