Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Experience It for Yourself

"Mirai, please, let Fugaku go."

Mikoto's plea was met with a cold snort from Mirai.

"He chose this path himself. He must face the consequences of his own decisions."

Hearing this, Mikoto lifted her head. Her usually gentle face carried a rare trace of anger, her expression tinged with bitterness.

"Then why don't you just kill him?"

"Fugaku is the clan leader of the Uchiha. Locking him up like this is a humiliation!"

She could accept Fugaku's death, but she could never accept such disgrace brought upon the leader of the clan.

Mirai's response was calm, almost indifferent. "I haven't restricted his actions. He's free to take his own life if he chooses."

"It's just… he doesn't have the courage."

Mikoto fell silent, unable to refute the truth in Mirai's words. She knew Fugaku's personality well enough to understand that Mirai wasn't lying.

When Fugaku was first detained, Mikoto had been shocked, but not overly worried. After all, he was the head of the Uchiha clan, and it was under the Third Hokage's orders that he had sought out Mirai. Even if Mirai detained him temporarily, there would surely be a way for him to regain his standing later.

What she hadn't anticipated was the Third Hokage's complete silence following Fugaku's imprisonment. Not a single word or action. It was clear that he had abandoned Fugaku entirely.

Over time, the clan members who once came to Mikoto's home to discuss ways to rescue Fugaku had dwindled in number. Some had vanished without a trace, never to be heard from again. The voices within the clan had grown unified—fully supporting Uchiha Mirai.

With no other recourse, Mikoto had come to Mirai in person, hoping to negotiate. No matter what, she couldn't allow Fugaku to die in prison, disgraced.

"Mirai," Mikoto said, her voice firm, "the Uchiha clan already regards you as its leader. Even if Fugaku were released, he would pose no threat to you."

"I promise, we won't interfere in the clan's affairs again."

She hesitated, then added tentatively, "Or… do you want money? Access to ninjutsu scrolls or other resources? Whatever we have, it's yours."

"Are you done?" Mirai's voice dripped with disdain. "Power? Wealth?"

"Mikoto, if you think my ambitions are so petty, you've gravely underestimated me."

The derision in Mirai's tone made Mikoto force herself to remain composed. She took a deep breath and asked, "Then, Mirai, what is your goal?"

"For the future of the Uchiha clan."

"What do you mean?"

Mikoto hadn't expected such an answer. Confused, she stared at Mirai, who stepped closer, gripping her chin gently but firmly.

"Words won't do it justice. You'll have to see that despairing future for yourself."

As her crimson Mangekyō Sharingan activated, Mikoto's vision glazed over, her mind falling into a daze.

"Where is this…?"

Mikoto squinted at the bright sunlight in the sky, her expression confused.

Wasn't it night just now? And what was she doing a moment ago?

"Mom!"

A childish voice jolted her from her thoughts. She turned around to see a young boy carrying a smaller child on his back, both walking toward her.

Her scattered memories snapped into focus as recognition dawned on her face. She smiled warmly.

"Itachi, Sasuke, where have you two been playing?"

The younger boy, perched on his brother's back, pouted. "Mom, we weren't playing. We were training!"

"I twisted my ankle, but I've improved a lot. Soon, I'll be strong enough to beat Nii-san!"

He tugged at his brother's ear excitedly. "Nii-san, will you train with me again tomorrow?"

Itachi gently lowered Sasuke to the ground, a faint smile on his face. "Sasuke, let's wait until your ankle heals. For now, let Mom bandage it."

"This? It's nothing!" Sasuke protested. "And you're always too busy!"

"Sasuke…"

"Hmm?"

Flick!

Itachi's finger poked Sasuke's forehead lightly. "Sorry, maybe next time."

Mikoto watched her sons with a heart full of contentment. Their bond was strong, and both would undoubtedly grow into exceptional shinobi.

What could bring a mother more joy than moments like this?

After watching their playful banter, Mikoto finally stepped forward, scooping Sasuke into her arms.

"Itachi, your father is looking for you. Go on."

"Yes, Mother."

Time passed, and Mikoto noticed that Itachi came home less and less frequently. The smile that had always adorned his face seemed to vanish, replaced by a heavy burden he bore silently.

Sasuke, too, grew more withdrawn. His usual cheer faded, weighed down by his brother's increasing absence and Fugaku's strict demeanor.

Mikoto sighed. The tension between the Uchiha clan and the village had only worsened after the Nine-Tails incident. The tragic deaths of Minato and Kushina had cast a long shadow.

She couldn't help but wonder about their child, the one Kushina had mentioned before… Naruto, wasn't it?

Now, with the Third Hokage back in power, rumors swirled that Sharingan eyes had been spotted controlling the Nine-Tails during its rampage. The Uchiha clan's situation was growing ever more precarious.

Mikoto tried to stay optimistic, placing her faith in Fugaku. Surely, he could navigate the storm.

All she could do was focus on her role as a wife and mother, quietly supporting her family.

Yet, sitting alone in the courtyard, her unease grew. The disappearance of Uchiha Shisui had pushed the clan into further disarray. The radicals blamed the Hokage outright, while the moderates cautioned against jumping to conclusions.

The infighting was relentless, tearing the clan apart.

Would this truly lead to a brighter future? Or was it the prelude to something far worse?
