Chapter 93: Chapter 93: You're Too Conservative

By the time Mirai left Tajima's room, it was already late into the night.

The head, who had led the Uchiha clan for decades, passed away quietly on an ordinary evening.

Mirai felt a twinge of emotion. Human life was so brief and fragile—it was no wonder Orochimaru was so obsessed with immortality.

Though Tajima was Fugaku's father, Mirai didn't hold any resentment toward him. In fact, Tajima's approach was entirely different from Fugaku's. Back when Mirai was still growing into his own, Tajima had been particularly supportive.

Much of the Uchiha clan's resilience under the suppression of Hiruzen Sarutobi and Danzo Shimura could be credited to Tajima's leadership. Yet, Mirai couldn't agree with Tajima's parting words.

No matter what, Mirai would never assist Fugaku.

He understood Fugaku well after spending so much time around him. While Fugaku seemed indecisive and soft-hearted, he was also deeply stubborn.

Mirai doubted Fugaku would ever compromise or accept his vision. That had been clear to him ever since his deployment to the battlefield in Kirigakure.

Tajima still didn't get it.

When it came to the future of the Uchiha clan, compromise and concessions weren't viable options. It was a battle of life and death.

If Fugaku remained on the opposing side, Mirai would deal with him personally.

As these thoughts ran through his mind, several Uchiha clan members exited the room.

Uchiha Inaho hurried over, a grin on his face. "Mirai-sama, congratulations! From now on, you're officially our leader."

Uchiha Hachidai joined in, "It's an honor to serve under you, Mirai-sama. With your leadership, the Uchiha clan will undoubtedly regain its former glory!"

Uchiha Tekkō was equally enthusiastic. "Mirai-sama, let's celebrate soon! Dinner's on us."

Mirai nodded with a faint smile. "Sounds good. But let me treat you instead."

During their time on the battlefield in Kirigakure, Tekkō, Hachidai, and Inaho had shown unwavering loyalty to Mirai. He didn't mind fostering a closer relationship with subordinates like them.

After the group dispersed, an old man with a hunched back stepped in front of Mirai.

"Mirai-kun," the elder said, his voice gravelly but steady, "care to come by my place for a chat?"

Mirai recognized him immediately—Uchiha Fenyen, one of the clan's most prominent hawkish elders. Aside from his hardline stance, Fenyen was memorable for another reason: he was Uchiha Izumi's grandfather.

The room was dimly lit by the faint glow of an oil lamp.

Fenyen set a teacup in front of Mirai before sitting across from him.

"When you're my age, the warmth of an oil lamp feels far more comforting than a fluorescent one," he remarked with a faint smile. Then he sighed. "Looking back, I regret letting Hazuki marry an outsider. Now I barely see her all year."

"Old age is lonely when you're on your own."

Mirai remained silent.

He knew that Fenyen's daughter, Uchiha Hazuki, had married a civilian ninja from the village and moved outside the Uchiha district. Although their home wasn't far, Hazuki rarely returned to the clan.

Family disputes like this weren't something Mirai cared to dwell on. He sipped his tea and said,

"Elder Fenyen, you didn't call me here just to complain, did you?"

Fenyen chuckled sheepishly. "Sometimes an old man just needs to vent a little."

Then his tone grew serious. "But you're right. I wanted to remind you of something."

"What is it?" Mirai asked casually.

Fenyen leaned in, his sharp gaze fixed on Mirai. "It's about the Mangekyō Sharingan. You should avoid using it too often."

Mirai's expression didn't change. He took another sip of tea. "And why is that?"

"To conserve your strength," Fenyen replied. "You know the risks. The more you rely on the Mangekyō Sharingan, the faster you'll lose your sight. But if you can prevent blindness…"

He paused for emphasis, his voice lowering. "With your reputation, once the Third Hokage steps down, you'll have a real shot at becoming the next Hokage. If that time comes, I'll rally the clan elders to support you, even if it means using force. With the power of the Uchiha, we can—"

Bang!

The sound of a teacup slamming against the table cut him off.

Mirai tapped his fingers against the tabletop, the rhythm slow but deliberate.

"Is that the extent of your ambition, Elder Fenyen?"

Fenyen froze, startled by Mirai's words and tone. "What do you mean?"

"Why are we pinning our hopes on something so uncertain?" Mirai's voice was cold. "Wait for Hiruzen Sarutobi to retire? Who knows how much longer he'll cling to the position of Hokage?"

"If you want the Hokage seat, then overthrow him. That's the only way to seize it."

Fenyen's mouth went dry. "O-overthrow the Third Hokage? But… that's…"

"That hesitation," Mirai interrupted impatiently, rising from his seat, "is exactly why the Uchiha are in the state they are now. You're too conservative, Elder. Leave these matters to me and enjoy your retirement."

Mirai turned to leave, his demeanor cold and resolute.

Behind him, Fenyen called out desperately, "You'll need support! Money, manpower, resources for training—I can at least provide advice!"

Mirai didn't even glance back. "I don't need anyone's advice. All I require is obedience."

As the door closed behind him, Fenyen sat in stunned silence, his heart pounding.

For years, he had believed himself to be the most radical voice among the Uchiha. But after hearing Mirai's plans, he realized just how restrained he had been.

"Overthrow the Third Hokage…"

Even now, the thought made his pulse quicken.

Suddenly, Fenyen understood why Mirai had awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan at such a young age.

After a long silence, he muttered to himself, "Tajima was too soft. Knowing Fugaku's nature, he should never have made him clan leader.

"With Mirai being this unyielding… Fugaku won't survive for long."
