Chapter 117: Chapter 117: Interrogation
"Don't worry!"
Fugaku stepped forward, closing the gap between himself and Danzo, who was bound tightly by chains. With a swift motion, he tore away the bandages covering Danzo's eyes.
Danzo now looked utterly drained. The genjutsu cast by Akira had completely crushed any possibility of resistance. He couldn't even mold chakra anymore. All he could do was glare at Fugaku with unbridled fury.
As the bandages fell, Danzo's right eye was revealed—gleaming crimson with the unmistakable glow of a Sharingan!
"So it really is a Sharingan…" Sarutobi Rokusun nodded slowly, a look of grim satisfaction crossing his face as his suspicions were confirmed.
Fugaku's eyes flickered with cold light at the sight. An icy, murderous intent radiated from him, causing the room's atmosphere to grow heavy.
"So it was you," Fugaku said in a frigid tone. "The disappearance of our clansmen—you're behind it!"
Danzo, though visibly weakened, let out a dry, mocking laugh.
"Fugaku Uchiha, their eyes were far too mediocre. Such a waste. If not for Orochimaru, your eyes would've been mine by now!"
"Hmph!" Fugaku's glare sharpened like a blade. He took a step forward and reached for Danzo.
"Keep dreaming."
Danzo's anguished scream echoed through the room as Fugaku mercilessly gouged out his right eye.
With a sickening squelch, the stolen Sharingan was crushed in Fugaku's palm, its remnants dripping to the floor.
Danzo writhed in pain, his screams filling the room. For Fugaku, the act offered a flicker of catharsis, slightly easing the rage burning within him.
Taking a deep breath to compose himself, Fugaku turned to Rokusun.
"Commander Sarutobi, let's move. The Hokage is waiting."
The streets of Konoha were abuzz with shock and disbelief as Danzo was paraded through them in chains, flanked by members of the Police Force and ANBU.
Whispers and gasps rippled through the gathered crowd.
"Danzo Shimura… really did those things?"
"The adviser of Konoha himself… experimenting on his own people?"
The villagers had been reluctant to believe the rumors, but with Danzo now disgraced and exposed, denial was no longer an option.
At the Hokage's office, Hiruzen Sarutobi was already waiting with Koharu Utatane, Homura Mitokado, and Nara Shikaku, the head of the Jōnin Command. The conference room was heavy with tension, its air thick with the smell of tobacco.
Hiruzen, surrounded by a hazy cloud of smoke, looked up as the group entered.
Rokusun saluted sharply. "Hokage-sama, Danzo Shimura has been apprehended. He resisted arrest but has been subdued with genjutsu. The Police Force and ANBU are now searching Root's base for evidence of his experiments with Orochimaru."
Hiruzen exhaled a long stream of smoke, his gaze falling on Danzo's bloodied face. With a sigh, he looked to Yamanaka Inoichi.
"Inoichi, he's all yours. Interrogate him thoroughly. We need answers as soon as possible."
Danzo, barely able to stand, raised a trembling finger at Hiruzen.
"Hiruzen… you… would treat me this way? After everything I've done for Konoha? I've shed blood for this village, built a legacy of achievements… And now, you let me be humiliated like this? Handing me over to be interrogated like a criminal?"
Hiruzen's expression remained stony. "Merit does not erase sin, Danzo. No one is above the law—not my friends, not my comrades, not even my own family. Anyone who endangers this village will face judgment."
Danzo opened his mouth to respond, but no words came. The Hiruzen before him felt like a stranger—unwavering, uncompromising.
"Inoichi, take him," Hiruzen commanded.
"Yes, Hokage-sama," Inoichi replied, signaling to his team. Together, they escorted Danzo to a nearby interrogation chamber, leaving the room steeped in silence.
Hiruzen broke the quiet by unrolling a scroll and placing it on the table.
"This contains the results of Orochimaru's interrogation, corroborated by the Police Force. Take a look."
The scroll detailed a horrifying litany of crimes—human experimentation, forbidden jutsu, desecration of the First Hokage's legacy. The revelations sent chills down the spines of those present.
"Orochimaru… I never thought he'd fall this far," Koharu Utatane muttered, her voice trembling with anger. She slammed the scroll down, her face flushed with rage.
Homura Mitokado shook his head and sighed. "One of the legendary Sannin, reduced to this… What a waste."
Koharu turned her fiery gaze to Hiruzen. "This is on you, Hiruzen! I warned you not to let Orochimaru get close to Danzo, but you refused to listen!"
Hiruzen chuckled bitterly. If only his words held such sway. If they did, Jiraiya wouldn't be wandering like a vagabond, and Tsunade wouldn't have abandoned the village.
"Orochimaru isn't a child," Hiruzen replied wearily. "He's one of the Sannin, a shinobi of great renown. Even my own son, Asuma, doesn't always listen to me. Do you think Orochimaru would? Blaming Danzo for 'corrupting' him is pointless—they're both equally rotten, drawn together by shared ambitions."
"It's my failure…" Hiruzen murmured. "I failed to guide Orochimaru properly."
Homura sighed deeply. "Who could have predicted Danzo would fall so far? He was once a man willing to sacrifice everything for this village…"
Hiruzen's voice grew firm. "None of that matters now. Danzo's crimes—abducting villagers, conducting experiments, stealing Sharingan, and more—are indisputable. Let's wait for Inoichi's report to finalize the charges."
Not far from the tense discussion, Fugaku and Akira sat in silence, indifferent to the proceedings.
For the Uchiha, Orochimaru and Danzo were merely convenient scapegoats.
The tide had turned. With the village's attention fixed on this scandal, Fugaku could already envision the next step: toppling Hiruzen.
If nothing unexpected happened, the Uchiha's plans would proceed. And if necessary, Akira had plenty of tricks to fan the flames of public outrage further. Konoha's villagers loved a good conspiracy.
