Naruto: Starting with Snatching the Mangekyō Sharingan

Chapter 129: Chapter 129: A Fragile Alliance

"With just our two villages, it's indeed difficult to take down Konoha alone. Teaming up with Iwagakure is a wise choice," Ay stated with a nod.

He turned to Nagato, his tone sharp as he questioned, "So, what exactly does Akatsuki hope to gain from this war?"

"The Nine-Tails," Nagato replied without hesitation.

"Absolutely not!" Raikage Ay shook his head firmly, his voice cold. "The Nine-Tails is non-negotiable. Don't even think about it!"

Nagato was silent for a moment before responding, "How about this—we leave the division of spoils for after we've truly destroyed Konoha. At that point, we'll decide based on everyone's contributions."

"That's more like it. But make no mistake—the Nine-Tails won't be yours just because you ask for it!" Ay said icily.

Turning his gaze toward Nagato, he continued, "As for Ōnoki, I've already sent someone to contact him. But that old geezer is hesitant. He might not agree."

Nagato caught the underlying meaning and nodded knowingly. "We'll also try to persuade Tsuchikage-sama. Rest assured, he will agree to the alliance."

"Hmph. That old fool better know what's good for him. This is the best chance we'll ever have to destroy Konoha. If he misses it, he'll regret it for the rest of his life," Ay grumbled, his tone filled with irritation.

His disdain for Ōnoki, the man who had killed his father, was palpable. But personal grudges meant nothing compared to the interests of the village.

After hashing out the specifics of their alliance, Nagato and Uchiha Hikari departed for the Land of Earth.

Watching them disappear into the distance, Ay snorted and flexed his wrist, clearly displeased.

"Raikage-sama…"

His personal guard, shaken out of the genjutsu they had been under, quickly approached. Seeing the stormy expression on Ay's face, the four of them froze, too afraid to speak.

"Starting today, your training doubles!" Ay barked before vanishing.

Two Days Later, Iwagakure: Tsuchikage's Office

Ōnoki sat behind his desk, his sharp gaze fixed on Nagato and Uchiha Hikari as they entered. He had already been briefed by the messengers from Kumogakure.

"So, the Raikage has agreed to ally with you against Konoha?" Ōnoki's eyes lingered on Hikari, a strange sense of familiarity gnawing at him.

"This Uchiha brat... Why do they remind me of Madara?" The thought struck Ōnoki as absurd.

"Bah, I must be getting old. A mere girl of no more than fourteen, yet I'm seeing shadows of him? Ridiculous," he scoffed internally.

"Yes, Raikage-sama has agreed," Nagato replied evenly.

"Well, well. Akatsuki must be more formidable than I thought if that hotheaded Raikage has come around. I imagine he didn't agree without testing your strength first," Ōnoki said with a dry chuckle.

Nagato smiled faintly. "You know Raikage-sama well, Tsuchikage-sama."

Ōnoki's eyes narrowed slightly as they fell on Nagato's Rinnegan.

"It seems that brute didn't gain the upper hand in your confrontation."

"I suppose you could say I won by a small margin," Nagato replied, his tone measured.

Ōnoki laughed dryly. "Knowing him, if he couldn't beat you, he'd never let you leave. That man is nothing more than a glorified bandit. Kumo pillages secret techniques wherever they go. If he could take your Rinnegan or her Sharingan, do you think he'd hesitate for even a second?"

Nagato merely smiled, offering no comment. Hikari, however, smirked disdainfully, making it clear she didn't consider Ay worth her attention.

Ōnoki observed the exchange and nodded to himself. "So, the Raikage suffered a setback. That means Nagato and this Uchiha kid are stronger than I thought. Perhaps this alliance really could devour the fat prey that is Konoha," he mused.

With a thoughtful expression, Ōnoki asked, "A three-way alliance isn't out of the question. But how will we divide the spoils? The Uchiha clan's Mangekyō Sharingan isn't an easy target."

His gaze shifted to Hikari. "You should know that better than anyone."

Sensing Ōnoki's willingness to cooperate, a satisfied smile appeared on Nagato's face. "Tsuchikage-sama, these concerns are unnecessary. If your side lacks confidence in handling the Sharingan, leave it to us and Kumogakure."

"As an elder, let me remind you—the Mangekyō Sharingan isn't something to be underestimated. Don't forget about Madara Uchiha," Ōnoki said gravely.

"Tsuchikage-sama needn't worry," Nagato replied calmly. "Ordinary Mangekyō Sharingan leads to blindness with extended use. Konoha's three pairs of Mangekyō are unlikely to last much longer."

"Oh? Is that so?" Ōnoki's eyes lit up.

"This is a secret of the Uchiha clan," Nagato continued, his tone firm. "Hikari-san herself confirmed it, so there's no doubt."

Hearing this, Ōnoki visibly relaxed. His greatest fear was the possibility of another Madara emerging from Konoha.

He hesitated before asking, "What about Madara's own Mangekyō? Why didn't his go blind?"

"Madara wielded the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan," Nagato explained. "It's fundamentally different from the ordinary version. No one in Konoha's Uchiha clan currently possesses such eyes. Only with the Eternal Mangekyō can one reach the level of the First Hokage, Senju Hashirama."

"So that's the reason…" Ōnoki murmured, a weight lifting from his chest.

"What about the division of spoils after the war? The Nine-Tails is a unique prize, and everyone wants it," Ōnoki pressed.

"Discussing distribution now is premature," Nagato said with a shake of his head. "The prerequisite is Konoha's destruction. Without that, all talk is meaningless."

Thirty Minutes Later

Nagato and Hikari left Ōnoki's office, satisfaction evident on their faces. After much back-and-forth negotiation, Ōnoki finally agreed to the three-way alliance.

The plan was set: the three forces would wait for the right moment to strike and obliterate Konoha in one decisive move.

Ōnoki stood by his office window, watching the two figures vanish into the streets below. His mind whirled with possibilities before he dismissed them one by one.

"Testing them is pointless. The Rinnegan can absorb jutsu, rendering my Dust Release ineffective," he thought.

"Perhaps a new superpower is about to emerge in the ninja world…" he muttered.

...

One Month Later

Under the watchful eyes of Konoha's citizens, Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, solemnly read out Danzo Shimura's long list of crimes.

As cheers erupted, Hiruzen announced Danzo's immediate execution.

Meanwhile, Orochimaru was officially declared an S-rank rogue ninja and added to the bingo books of every hidden village.

Though some villagers expressed dissatisfaction over Orochimaru's escape, they largely accepted it, knowing his strength.

That very day, White Zetsu, hiding in Konoha, relayed the news to Nagato in Amegakure.
