Chapter 316: Chapter 316: Tsunade: Old Man, You Have a Really Dark Heart

Many believed Tsunade had gambled away the entire Senju clan's fortune, but that was a misconception.

Sure, she'd lost her fair share, but the clan's wealth wasn't entirely gone. Uzumaki Mito, the matriarch, had ensured most of it was preserved or donated to the village long before Tsunade could squander it.

Still, Tsunade's losses were significant enough to fuel the rumors.

As Shinki hugged her in jest, Tsunade shoved him away with a glare.

"What are you doing? There are people around! Don't be so shameless!"

Shinki smirked, looking theatrically heartbroken as he glanced toward the sky.

"I was just trying to comfort someone who's struggling financially. I was even going to mention the profits from the pharmaceutical division… but I guess I'll save that for another time."

Tsunade's head snapped around, her irritation replaced with laser-focused interest.

"Wait, what profits? What share?"

Shinki pretended to examine his nails, speaking nonchalantly.

"Oh, nothing much. Just the revenue generated from all those medicines you developed. Didn't the Third Hokage ever tell you?"

Tsunade's jaw dropped.

"The old man never said a word about this!"

She had always vaguely known her medical contributions had value, but she never asked, assuming it was all reinvested into the village.

Shinki shrugged.

"Well, now you know. The pharmaceutical division earns enough to not only sustain ANBU but also generate tens of millions of taels in surplus—per month."

Tsunade froze, her mind racing.

Thirty million taels a month?

The realization hit like a punch to the gut. The Third Hokage had withheld massive sums from her, while she had been struggling to make ends meet—or worse, gambling away what little she had.

"Old man, you're unbelievable!" Tsunade muttered, her hands clenching into fists.

After a moment, she plastered on her best pleading face and sidled up to Shinki.

"Ahem… so, uh, about those profits. Maybe you could pay me my share in advance?"

Shinki smirked, shaking his head.

"Under broad daylight, asking for money? Shameless."

Tsunade's eye twitched.

"Fine!" she snapped. Without warning, she grabbed him and planted several quick kisses on his cheek, muttering between each one, "Satisfied? Can I have my money now?"

The nearby workers erupted into cheers and laughter, teasing Tsunade mercilessly.

"Oh, it's a show of affection! Kiss him more, Tsunade-sama!"

Shinki handed over a scroll, his expression triumphant.

"Alright, here's your first payment. But I'm warning you—don't lose it all at the casino."

Tsunade opened the scroll, her eyes turning into money symbols at the sight of the figure. Still, she managed to restrain herself. She pocketed only a small portion, handing the rest back to Shinki for safekeeping.

"Thanks," she said, tucking the scroll away. "You know me too well."

With money in hand, Tsunade's priorities shifted instantly.

"I'll leave the rest of the cleanup to you. I need a… uh, walk."

She dashed off before anyone could stop her.

Shinki shook his head, watching her retreating figure.

"She's like a rabbit when money's involved," he muttered.

In truth, he had only given her a fraction of her rightful share—just enough to keep her happy while ensuring she didn't blow through it recklessly.

Konoha's Gossip Spreads

The cleanup from Kushina's battle was well underway, but the fallout extended far beyond damaged buildings. Spies embedded in the village had already caught wind of the event.

Despite the Third Hokage's initial concerns, Shinki's decision not to suppress the news ensured it spread quickly—not just among Konoha's villagers but also to its enemies.

By the time the Sand Village envoy arrived that evening, the rumors were everywhere.

"Golden fox chakra? Isn't Konoha's Nine-Tails supposed to be orange-red?" Chiba, the envoy leader, asked in disbelief after hearing the reports.

One of his subordinates nodded.

"That's correct, but eyewitnesses claim it was a golden fox. They also say that Konoha Princess Tsunade fought against Kushina, the Nine-Tails' Jinchūriki, and even that elder Utatane Koharu was injured during the commotion."

Chiba frowned.

"The old woman Koharu got hurt?"

The subordinate nodded.

"Yes. She's currently being treated in Konoha Hospital. It's said the fight was intense enough to leave large portions of the village in ruins."

Chiba processed the information carefully.

If true, this wasn't just a small internal matter. A golden fox hinted at something extraordinary—perhaps a new form of the Nine-Tails' power. And if Konoha wasn't hiding this, it meant they wanted the world to know.

"Interesting," Chiba murmured.

For now, he decided to bide his time. Tomorrow's meeting with Konoha's leadership might reveal more.
