Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Victory in the First Battle
The vast sea stretched out endlessly as Kirito and Tenten leaned against the ship's bow, enjoying the salty breeze.
"I didn't think I'd get to sail again so soon," Tenten remarked, the gentle rocking of the ship reminding her of their earlier journey.
"It's a common route in these waters," Kirito replied, momentarily taking his eyes off the thick medical manual he had been studying. "The Land of Snow doesn't leave much room for variety."
Tenten gazed at the horizon. "I wonder what the Land of Snow is really like. Is it all snow and ice?"
"It is," said Sandayū, the mission's client, joining them at the bow. He stared into the distance, his voice carrying a hint of melancholy. "That land knows only winter. It has no spring."
"Have you been there before?" Tenten asked, her curiosity piqued.
"Yes..." Sandayū trailed off, his expression clouding with memories.
The journey was calm for the first two days, with no immediate tasks for Team Guy. They spent their time watching the crew of The Great Adventure of Princess Fuun film scenes on the ship's deck.
Despite her initial reluctance, Yukie Fujikaze, the lead actress, demonstrated remarkable professionalism whenever the cameras were rolling.
"Now I see why they call her the best," Tenten admitted, though she quickly grew tired of watching the same scenes repeated. "If I keep watching, I won't enjoy the movie at all."
Kirito agreed, finding the whole process slightly awkward. Lee and Guy, however, were captivated, repeatedly declaring their intention to see the completed film in theaters.
The peace ended on the morning of the third day when the ship was stopped by an enormous iceberg blocking its path.
"An iceberg? Here?" The navigator was baffled. "This isn't even close to the Snow Country's borders."
The obstacle posed a serious threat. Navigating around it would take precious time and risk encountering underwater ice reefs that could tear the hull apart.
"Director, what should we do?" a crew member asked nervously.
The director, however, saw an opportunity. "Look at those jagged cliffs—it's the perfect shooting location! All hands, prepare to land!"
While the crew scrambled to set up, Tenten turned to Kirito. "This iceberg feels off. What do you think?"
"It's suspicious," Kirito confirmed, his Byakugan activated. "There are three people hiding in different parts of the iceberg."
Guy nodded grimly. "We'll clear the area first. Protect Yukie and the crew, Kirito."
"Got it," Kirito replied, stepping back.
After warning the director of the ambush, Team Guy prepared for battle. The crew, unfazed by the danger, eagerly set up cameras to capture the action for the film.
"Unbelievable," Tenten muttered, shaking her head.
Kirito, standing at the bow, raised his hand. His arm began to swell as molten lava bubbled and hissed. With three thunderous strikes, he launched house-sized lava fists at the iceberg, vaporizing parts of it and revealing the ambushers.
Three figures emerged from the mist, clad in strange armor.
"Impressive," said their leader, a man with purple hair tied in a ponytail. "Welcome to the Land of Snow. Did you bring the hexagonal crystal, Little Snow Princess?"
Guy stepped forward, his eyes alight with excitement. "I am Might Guy, Konoha's Blue Beast! Prepare yourselves!"
"I'll take you on!" the leader replied. "Nadare Rōga!"
As Guy charged at Nadare Rōga, a burly man with a snowboard slid down the ice, introducing himself as Mizore Fuyukuma.
"Rock Lee of Konoha! Let's fight!" Lee declared, launching into a flurry of kicks against Mizore Fuyukuma's armor
The final enemy, a pink-haired woman named Fubuki Kakuyoku, unleashed a barrage of ice swallows at Lee.
Tenten stepped in, hurling shurikens that multiplied in mid-air. "Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique!"
The sheer number of projectiles overwhelmed Fubuki Kakuyoku's attack, forcing her to summon an ice wall for protection.
"Not good enough!" Tenten smirked, forming another seal. "Shuriken Exploding Burst!"
The shurikens detonated, triggering a chain explosion that sent Fubuki Kakuyoku flying.
"Well done, Tenten!" Lee shouted, redoubling his efforts against Mizore Fuyukuma.
Mizore Fuyukuma was baffled. His armor, which amplified chakra and nullified ninjutsu, was useless against Lee's pure taijutsu. "How is he this strong without chakra?!"
Nadare Rōga fared no better against Guy, who shattered his armor with a single powerful kick. Realizing they were outmatched, Nadare Rōga ordered a retreat.
"White Whale Ice Blade!" Nadare Rōga summoned a massive ice construct shaped like a narwhal, which split the iceberg in two. The chaos allowed the trio to escape.
"That was amazing!" the director exclaimed, thrilled by the footage his crew had captured.
Back on the ship, Lee sulked. "I can't believe they got away..."
"It's fine," Tenten said, patting his shoulder. "We'll see them again. Next time, we'll finish the job."
Guy turned to Kirito. "The iceberg is still blocking the ship. Can you handle it?"
"Of course."
Kirito leapt onto the water's surface, his arm swelling once again with lava. This time, the heat radiating from him was so intense that the crew instinctively backed away.
With a single devastating punch, Kirito obliterated the iceberg, vaporizing it completely. The ship rocked from the sheer force of the impact, leaving everyone speechless.
The director broke the silence, his voice trembling with excitement. "That was incredible! Did you get all that?!"
The crew nodded, their cameras still rolling.
As Kirito returned to the ship, Tenten clapped him on the back. "You've really set the bar high for action scenes."
"Let's hope the rest of the mission is quieter," Kirito replied, glancing at the horizon.
The ship pressed on toward the Land of Snow, the crew buzzing with newfound energy, and Team Guy prepared for whatever lay ahead.
