Chapter 65: Chapter 65: The Opponent Isn’t Even Human!
Nagano's consciousness had already begun to blur.
He vaguely saw Obito rushing toward him, his mind groaning in frustration.
This idiot!
You fool! You dropout!
Don't you realize I'm just bait the enemy left behind on purpose?!
...Forget it.
He was about to die anyway—thinking too much about it now was pointless.
Still...
He never expected that guy would risk his life to stand up for him like this.
Memories from the past started to surface, one by one, playing like a film in his fading mind. It was as if he had gone back to his childhood, and the echoes of a youthful voice reached his ears.
"Hi, I'm Obito! Looks like we're desk partners from now on!"
"H-Hello... I'm Nagano..."
Back then, he was a timid, withdrawn boy, and Obito wasn't the mischievous, annoying guy he was now.
Nagano closed his eyes, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
Meeting you... wasn't so bad, after all.
"RAAAAAGH!!!"
Obito roared in fury.
In his sight, Nagano's last strand of chakra had completely dissipated.
As Obito charged forward, behind him, Shikayu and the others broke into a sprint in the opposite direction, retreating rapidly.
The Iwagakure ninja smirked mockingly.
"So that's why this brat rushed out so recklessly—he was creating an opening for his comrades to escape!"
"Such a clever idea, but... too bad you can't even buy them half a minute."
"Enough chatter. Let's finish this brat off before those others get too far!"
The nine Iwagakure ninja surrounded Obito, closing in from all directions.
Four jōnin and five tokubetsu jōnin—a lineup like this would obliterate any ordinary genin in seconds.
And reinforcements were on their way, too—seven or eight squads, rapidly closing the distance.
With a force this overwhelming, how could their side possibly lose?
Victory was already in their grasp!
Just rush him and end this!
[Ding!]
A familiar sound rang in Obito's mind.
Oh, great. Not now, he groaned internally as the system's notification popped up, blocking his view for a second.
[Option 1: Kill 10 Iwagakure ninja. Reward: 0.1 units of chakra.]
[Option 2: Kill 20 Iwagakure ninja. Reward: 0.2 units of chakra.]
[Option 3: Kill 30 Iwagakure ninja. Reward: 0.3 units of chakra.]
Obito scanned the options quickly and immediately understood.
If the system was offering these choices, it meant that at least seven or eight additional teams of Iwagakure ninja were already en route.
Without hesitation, he selected the third option.
Thirty kills. Let's do this.
A wild grin spread across his face.
One of the Iwagakure ninja noticed Obito standing frozen, seemingly lost in thought. He sneered, charging forward with his blade aimed at Obito's chest.
"You're spacing out in a fight against me? Who gave you the guts, you little brat?!"
But in the next instant, his smug expression froze.
His blade passed clean through Obito's body, as though the boy wasn't even there.
"Nani?!"
Before he could process what had happened, a kunai drove into his chest.
"Urgh... Urk..."
Obito yanked the kunai free, kicking the man's lifeless body to the ground.
"One."
The other Iwagakure ninja froze at the sight, halting their advance.
"What the hell just happened?" one whispered, voice trembling.
"No idea... This kid's abilities are unnatural. Be careful," another murmured, his face pale.
Obito didn't wait for them to recover.
He lunged toward the next nearest enemy, determined to kill as many as he could before reinforcements arrived.
An Iwagakure ninja gritted his teeth and met Obito head-on with his blade raised.
"No way you can keep using that trick forever! I'll cut you down!"
In the world of shinobi, strange abilities always came with limits—whether it was a cost, a cooldown, or a weakness.
The Iwagakure ninja firmly believed Obito's phasing technique couldn't be used continuously.
Clinging to that thought, he swung his blade straight at Obito's chest.
Once again, the blade passed harmlessly through.
But the man had prepared for this. Staying on guard, he shifted into a defensive stance to evade Obito's counterattack.
Unfortunately for him, he wasn't prepared for what happened next.
The air around him distorted, the space twisting violently.
Before he could even scream, his body froze in place, immobilized, and Obito's kunai found its mark in his heart.
"Two."
Obito calmly stepped over the corpse, counting softly.
The remaining Iwagakure ninja were struck with terror, their breaths catching in their throats.
This wasn't a fight.
It was a massacre.
"What the hell is going on?!" one whispered, his voice shaking.
"Is he even human?" another muttered, his hands trembling.
Obito glanced at the terrified faces of his enemies and couldn't help but laugh—a dark, maniacal sound.
"Hahaha! If you're too scared to come after me... I'll just kill you myself!"
He raised his kunai and charged forward.
The seven remaining ninja exchanged panicked looks.
There was no choice now.
If they didn't fight, they'd die.
As one, they steeled their resolve and charged at Obito.
But their resolve wouldn't save them.
One of the ninja locked eyes with Obito mid-charge.
"Three," Obito murmured.
The man's head suddenly imploded, crushed by a violently warped space.
Blood, bone, and... was that green?
Oh, right—he'd been wearing a green headband.
The gore splattered the ninja nearest to him, who, out of pure reflex, licked his lips and immediately gagged.
"What the... What is this?!"
"This isn't normal! This isn't human!"
Obito tilted his head slightly, his gaze cold and detached.
He was no longer looking at them like opponents.
He was looking at them like corpses.
"W-What are you?!" one of them finally shouted, voice cracking with fear.
Obito's Sharingan gleamed as he stepped forward.
"Huh? Did you just call me a monster?!"
Before the man could respond, his head exploded in a burst of blood and flesh.
"Four," Obito said nonchalantly, wiping the blood off his face.
This wasn't even a challenge anymore.
Back in this era, the power of the Mangekyō Sharingan was an unparalleled cheat code. Unlike the later years, when the world became flooded with god-tier ninjas and alien invaders, Obito's power now was nearly unstoppable.
If he'd had this strength earlier, maybe Nagano wouldn't have...
Obito shook his head, clearing the thought.
He didn't have time for regrets. Not now.
