Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Power Gap
"Boom! Boom!"
A deafening rumble shook the air, dust swirling around in thick clouds.
Not far away, even the ninja academy felt the impact. Buildings trembled, making everyone think an earthquake had hit. They quickly evacuated, rushing the students to safer areas for shelter.
Meanwhile, a massive earthen wall, constructed by a coordinated effort of several Anbu members under Kakashi's command, was obliterated, like a paper barrier swept aside.
It wasn't just the open area in front of them.
The entire Third Training Ground had been transformed into an ocean of towering trees, as though a forest had risen from nowhere.
Even the natural woodlands nearby were swallowed and covered by colossal trees that surged forward, seemingly with minds of their own, dominating all in their path.
"Gulp! The whole Third Training Ground."
"Does he… does he really have the First Hokage's Wood Release?"
"And… and it's even more terrifying than Yamato's Wood Release."
"To be honest, his Wood Release and Yamato's aren't even in the same league."
"Wow! So this is the true power of the First Hokage that brought peace to the chaotic era?"
Masked figures stumbled back in disarray, their mouths open in shock as they looked around at the mind-blowing scene.
Each one felt their spirit shake under the weight of what they were witnessing, their gazes drawn to a slender figure standing nearby, arms folded.
Even though he was young he still exuded an immense pressure that made their scalps tingle.
Even Kakashi couldn't hide his own reaction.
As for Yamato, he was utterly devastated, staring blankly at the countless towering trees that spread out around him, the sheer scale of it all hitting him hard.
"Yamato, I understand how you feel, but some people are just born with abilities that set them apart."
Kakashi, noticing Yamato's sense of defeat, stepped forward and placed a hand on his shoulder, his tone calm but firm.
Kakashi looked over at the boy standing on a high branch.
His gaze was complicated, a faint sigh slipping out.
Yamato wasn't alone in feeling overwhelmed. Kakashi himself had once been hailed as a young prodigy, someone everyone admired.
But compared to Kiyoshi, he barely stood out.
"Captain, I know."
Yamato's eyes cleared, and he managed a bitter smile. "I just… couldn't sort out my thoughts for a moment."
He looked around.
The sea of giant trees, full of vibrant life, seemed to mock him in silence.
Both of them used Wood Release, but the gap between their abilities was like an unbridgeable canyon.
There was simply no comparison to be made.
He couldn't even feel jealous.
"Kiyoshi..."
At first, Yugao had thought Kiyoshi was a true prodigy—powerful enough to defeat Yamato, an Anbu squad leader.
However, she never believed he could challenge an entire Anbu squad alone.
Now, behind her mask, her beautiful face was filled with astonishment.
She was at a loss for words.
"That kid is that strong, able to wield even the First Hokage's Wood Style?"
She recalled the boy who, half a year ago, had saved her near the Land of Fire's border.
The same boy who had laughed and joked with her, calling her "Yugao-nee."
Now, he wielded this awe-inspiring power.
It was simply unbelievable.
Meanwhile, in the Hokage's office.
Hiruzen could no longer sit still, his usual composure shattered.
He watched the crystal ball, his gaze fixed on the Third Training Ground, now unrecognizable under a canopy of giant trees.
"It's really Wood Release... and on such a scale. This power is leagues beyond Yamato's limited attempts."
"Come with me to the Third Training Ground immediately."
Hiruzen's wrinkled face flushed with excitement.
Without hesitation, he called over his longtime Anbu protectors.
Eagerly, he led them toward the training grounds.
If he didn't act now.
The Third Training Ground wasn't the only thing at risk.
Even the nearby ninja academy might fall victim to that unpredictable boy's wrath.
After all, if he dared to destroy the Hokage Rock, what else wouldn't he try?
Come to think of it, how mild and humble had that young Kiyoshi been just two years ago?
He must have picked up some of Tsunade's explosive temper.
…
"Sorry if I went a bit overboard."
Kiyoshi looked down at the elite Anbu below him and smiled. "But don't worry—I'll end this fight as quickly as I can."
His words had barely left his lips when, without waiting for a response, he clenched his right hand into a fist.
"Whoosh... Whoosh..."
Countless trees surged forward.
The thick vines shot out like venomous snakes, weaving and winding toward Kakashi and his companions, whose faces were filled with shock, every hair on end.
"Wind Style: Great Breakthrough Jutsu!"
"Wind Style: Gale Palm Jutsu!."
"Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!"
"Water Style: Water Dragon Jutsu."
"Lightning Blade!"
"Boom! Boom!"
The Third Training Ground erupted in chaos.
Trees grew wildly, gusts howled, flames blazed, lightning flashed, water surged—
Each attack came one after another, filling the air with sounds of explosive power.
Splinters flew as dust billowed up in clouds.
"What?"
"Damn it, I'm trapped."
"These vines are too fast."
"Aahh… Aahh!."
The usually well-trained, highly skilled Anbu found themselves overwhelmed by the forest of vines, which left them little chance to coordinate.
They were being seized, one by one, by vines far tougher and more resilient than ordinary trees, unable to escape or fight back.
Before teammates could move to help, more vines sprouted from every direction, binding them faster than they could react.
They struggled, only to realize they couldn't even free themselves.
"Damn it, it's absorbing our chakra."
"Everyone be careful. These vines can drain chakra."
The Anbu who were ensnared felt their chakra siphoned off continuously.
Although Kiyoshi held back from fully draining them, most of them had already lost the strength to fight.
They were left tied up, unable to resist.
It was then they finally understood.
The Wood Release, which had once brought peace to an era of endless war, was as terrifying as the stories said.
Once these vines got hold of you, there was virtually no escape.
"Crackle...crackle..."
Kakashi concentrated lightning in his palm.
Using the keen insight granted by his Sharingan, now visible beneath his mask, he dodged and weaved through the onslaught of vines coming at him from all sides.
"Boom!"
The condensed Lightning Blade, sharp as a blade, sliced through the thick vines with ease.
He moved swiftly, dodging each strike, closing in on the teammates tangled in vines one by one.
But he found he was always just a step too late.
In mere moments, the vines had already drained much of his teammates' chakra.
Leaving them unable to fight.
One after another, he managed to free a few of them, but each time they were swiftly bound again by fresh vines, rendering them helpless.
A sense of powerlessness washed over Kakashi.
