Chapter 91: Chapter 91: Daytime Tiger
The addition of the Suna ninja not only failed to improve the team's combat effectiveness but instead caused panic.
The Konoha ninja, led by Kawakaze and Tsunade with high morale, quickly broke through the center line. The Suna ninja, barely escaping with their lives, stopped retreating to the far left and instead fled toward the heart of the Land of Wind.
"Big Brother, what's going on?" Kawakaze asked as he approached Sakumo, who looked pale and worried. Beside him lay Chiyo, unmoving, but Kawakaze found nothing unusual about her condition. Isn't that what's supposed to happen?
"It shouldn't be anything serious," Sakumo said weakly. "I was poisoned, and Tsunade's antidote pills didn't completely flush it out." Sakumo's tone was faint, a testament to the severity of the situation. Chiyo's expertise in poisons, however, was undoubtedly among the top three in the world.
"Let me take a look," Tsunade said as she crouched beside Sakumo, folding her arms to examine him carefully.
"What's his condition?" Kawakaze blurted out before Sakumo could even speak.
"Some stubborn toxins remain, but there's no threat to his life," Tsunade replied, her furrowed brows relaxing. "It'll be fine if I can develop an antidote in time."
"That's good," Kawakaze sighed in relief. Kakashi and his Father are still here. That's all that matters.
"What's there to worry about? I'm not dead, am I?" Sakumo asked, a faint smile on his face as he mustered the strength to ruffle Kawakaze's hair—a gesture he'd often made when they were younger.
Kawakaze swatted his hand away, frowning. "If you died, who would I be angry with? And stop that—it's embarrassing!"
"You brat. If you want to die, just say so!" Sakumo retorted, feigning rage as he kicked at the air, nearly tripping himself.
"Ssshh~ You did that to yourself, so don't blame me," Kawakaze teased, amused by his brother's antics. Despite the tension, he felt assured this wouldn't impact Kakashi's future younger siblings.
"Don't let me catch you," Sakumo growled, glaring at Kawakaze. Where did this annoying younger brother of mine come from?
"That's enough," Tsunade interjected as she helped stabilize Sakumo's injuries. "You rest here. Kawakaze and I will go support Duy."
As she prepared to leave, Tsunade glanced at the brothers bickering like children and couldn't help but envy her sister-in-law, Nayuki, who managed to care for them all. If I ever have a son, I hope he won't end up like that with Kakashi. Otherwise, the Hatake Clan might have a genetic predisposition for chaos.
"Good. The battle cannot be delayed. You go," Sakumo said as he stood up, his movements steady despite his injuries.
"Let's go!" Kawakaze replied, taking the lead. He quickly gathered the uninjured Konoha ninja and rushed toward the left flank with Tsunade.
Within the barrier, Duy had been battling for an extended time against nine elite Sunagakure Jōnin, his six gates fully open. The barrier severely restricted his movement range, preventing him from using his full speed and rendering it challenging for the Suna ninja to even touch him.
Several of the Suna Jōnin resorted to taking chakra-enhancing drugs. Duy's unparalleled Taijutsu overwhelmed them, and their chakra reserves were depleting rapidly.
Ebizō's face was pale, his own chakra waning as he struggled to maintain the barrier. He didn't know how much longer it would hold.
Duy had sustained minor injuries, and the Suna ninja's Genjutsu techniques were troubling him. Both sides faced their own limitations, leading to a noticeable decrease in the intensity of their attacks.
Outside the barrier, the battle raged fiercely between Konoha and Suna ninja, neither side gaining a clear advantage.
"Might Duy, even if we nine tire, we'll still exhaust you," a Suna ninja with a cross-shaped scar near his eye taunted. He had noticed the weakening of Duy's chakra and guessed that the Kinjutsu Duy was using couldn't be sustained for much longer.
"Youth never retreats!" Duy roared, his green aura surging. He lunged forward, kicking up a cloud of dust as he moved at blinding speed. The nine Suna ninja had begun adapting to his movements. Though they couldn't fully keep up, they relied on strategy and patience, believing they would eventually land a decisive blow.
"Earth Release: Earth Shore Return!" one of the Suna ninja shouted, erecting an earthen wall for defense.
"Leaf Strong Whirlwind!" Duy countered, spinning at high speed and delivering a powerful kick that shattered the wall. One, two, three... Duy destroyed six earthen walls in succession before being intercepted.
"Genjutsu: Sand Binding Coffin Technique!" The scar-eyed Suna ninja unleashed a Genjutsu at close range, catching Duy off guard. This technique, meticulously prepared, trapped the target in an illusion of being bound by sand, experiencing an oppressive squeeze that mimicked suffocation.
Duy froze in place, his body immobile as if under a spell. His breathing grew rapid, and his chakra reserves dwindled dangerously low.
"Take advantage of his weakness to kill him!" one of the Suna ninjas shouted, and the nine attackers sprang into action.
The Genjutsu had only briefly disrupted Duy's movements, but the binding force of the sand-based technique grew stronger. Armed with several kunai each, the Suna ninja closed in, ready to reduce Duy to a pincushion.
As the sense of impending danger reached its peak, the Suna ninja were nearly upon him.
"The passion of youth, burn!"
Duy's voice erupted in a roar of defiance.
"Gate 7, Gate of Wonder—open!!"
Agony gripped Duy as blue steam surged from his body, signifying the incredible Chakra surge ignited by the Seventh Gate. A whirlwind of energy burst forth, throwing the advancing Suna ninja into chaos. The sheer power of his Chakra obliterated the Genjutsu that bound him, breaking free with devastating force.
"Go!" one Suna ninja shouted as they rushed forward, attempting to match Duy's speed.
"Daytime Tiger!!"
With a ferocious roar, Duy unleashed a devastating straight punch. The air compressed tightly for a moment, then expanded explosively into a massive air cannon shaped like a roaring tiger.
"Ahhh!"
The nine Suna ninjas stood no chance. The three in the lead were torn apart instantly, their remains raining down in a crimson torrent. The six behind them were hurled violently to the ground, their survival uncertain.
The sheer force of the attack blasted a hole in the barrier, large enough for a person to pass through. Ebizō staggered backward, coughing up blood as he fell to one knee. His nine puppets were flung away like discarded toys, and the barrier shattered.
Duy, drained from unleashing the Daytime Tiger, could no longer sustain the Seventh Gate. Pain wracked his body, and cold sweat dripped from his brow as he propped himself up on one trembling hand, glaring at Ebizō with ferocity.
"Haha... cough..." Ebizō chuckled through the blood in his throat. "You're done for, aren't you?"
Using the last of his chakra, Ebizō manipulated a puppet forward. The puppet's right hand transformed into a deadly blade.
Duy gritted his teeth and tried to move, but his body betrayed him. He could only watch as the puppet advanced, its blade inching closer.
"Die~" Ebizō snarled as the puppet raised its weapon high and stabbed downward.
"Duy!"
A streak of thunder-light cut through the battlefield in a flash.
"Kenjutsu: Thunder God Speed!"
Kawakaze's blade gleamed as he passed through Ebizō, who clutched at his throat, his eyes wide with disbelief. His puppet's blade had pierced Duy's chest, stopping mere inches from his heart, but it had no strength left to continue.
Ebizō turned toward Duy, blood seeping from his neck. "Hatake... Kawakaze..." he whispered, collapsing with a thud. His puppet stood frozen, its power spent.
At the last moment, Kawakaze had arrived, saving Duy from certain death.
"Kawakaze..." Duy murmured as he glimpsed his savior, but his strength failed, and he collapsed fully.
"Tsunade, quickly see how he is!" Kawakaze barked, his voice urgent.
Tsunade dashed to Duy's side, her movements swift as she prepared to tend to his injuries.
