Chapter 428: Chapter 428: Reiki's Name!
"Reiki, when did you master tailed beast transformation?"
"And did you actually go to Takigakure to capture the Seven-Tails, Chōmei?"
"Aren't you supposed to be a medical ninja? Why are you fighting like this?"
"My waist…"
As Yagura approached Reiki, he let his curiosity spill out in a flood of questions.
It wasn't just Yagura who was curious; Orochimaru, Jiraiya, and Tsunade, who had just arrived, were also intrigued.
"I'm not a tailed beast jinchūriki," Reiki explained earnestly. "I can only borrow the chakra of a tailed beast. As for fighting… in Konoha, even our medical ninjas are trained for combat. My teacher, Lady Tsunade, is a prime example."
Reiki paused before continuing, "What I just did wasn't really tailed beast transformation—it was just an application of tailed beast chakra. I don't have enough tailed beast chakra to perform a full transformation."
Yagura's lips twitched awkwardly. He didn't believe a word Reiki had just said. As a jinchūriki himself, Yagura knew exactly what tailed beast transformation looked like. Whatever Reiki was doing, it was much closer to a full transformation than he cared to admit.
But when Yagura noticed Tsunade, Orochimaru, and Jiraiya's presence, a realization hit him: Reiki's abilities were likely tied to Konoha's secrets. Yagura inwardly mocked himself for expecting a straightforward answer.
"Fine," Yagura said with a wry smile. "That was an enjoyable battle. If you get stronger and want to fight again in the future, you know where to find me."
With that, Yagura turned to leave, but Reiki quickly stopped him.
"Mizukage-sama, don't go just yet! Let me treat you." Reiki smiled warmly as he approached.
Given that he had injured Yagura's waist during their fight, Reiki felt it was only fair to heal him. The injury was minor, so Reiki's treatment took only a few minutes.
"Alright, Mizukage-sama, you're good to go!" Reiki said cheerfully.
"Ah… wait…" Yagura began before realizing something. "This is my house. Why am I the one leaving?"
Reiki froze, embarrassed. "Oh… uh… sorry about that. I'll leave now!"
He quickly made his exit, followed by Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru.
Back at their lodging, the trio reflected on the day's events. They had been observing Reiki for days, watching him progress from battling the Mizukage's guards to facing Yagura himself.
Even though Yagura didn't go all out, Reiki's ability to suppress him was astounding.
Yagura was no ordinary opponent. As a perfect jinchūriki and a master of Water Release techniques, Yagura was a genius among shinobi. Yet, Reiki, just nine years old, had held his ground.
"Teacher, Lord Orochimaru, Lord Jiraiya… what's wrong?" Reiki asked nervously.
He noticed their scrutinizing expressions and felt a bit uneasy. "Did I do something wrong?"
"Reiki," Tsunade began, "if you were to fight with all your strength, what would your limit be?"
"All out?" Reiki thought for a moment before replying. "I think I could hold my own against most ninjas. Even if I can't win, I'm confident I could escape."
"That's it?" Tsunade asked skeptically.
Reiki nodded. "Mizukage-sama wasn't fighting seriously either. You saw that, right? Besides… you don't think I'm at Kage-level, do you?"
The trio didn't respond directly. Reiki's performance had been impressive, but to say he could fully surpass Yagura was a stretch, even for them.
"Alright," Tsunade said, breaking the silence. "Get some rest. Overworking yourself won't make you stronger faster. You need to consolidate what you've learned and approach your training with a calm mind."
With that, Tsunade left the room, followed by Jiraiya. Orochimaru lingered for a moment, giving Reiki a playful look before leaving as well.
Reiki sighed, sitting down to reflect on his recent battles. "I really need to keep a low profile," he muttered to himself. "My goal is to be an excellent medical ninja, not a combat ninja… right?"
With that thought in mind, he began circulating his chakra, refining his control and expanding his meridians.
Elsewhere, the major villages were abuzz with news of Reiki.
"A medical ninja defeated you?" The Third Raikage stared at his guard, Gural, in disbelief.
Gural, an elite jōnin trained in the rigorous Lightning Release techniques of the Cloud, was one of the Raikage's strongest guards. Yet, he had returned empty-handed.
"It's not just us," Gural admitted reluctantly. "Iwagakure and Kirigakure also failed to defeat him. Even Mizukage Yagura, during his fight with that medical ninja, used tailed beast transformation…"
"And the other kid?" the Raikage asked sharply.
"The medical ninja also used tailed beast transformation," Gural answered helplessly.
The Third Raikage frowned. This wasn't adding up.
In Iwagakure and Kirigakure, similar frustrations were brewing.
After confirming that Yagura hadn't held back during his fight with Reiki, the leaders of these villages couldn't help but wonder:
What kind of training did Konoha put its shinobi through?
How could they produce such a young monster?
