NBA: Built to Dominate

Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Celestial Beast Unleashed

Verizon Center – Washington, D.C.

The Verizon Center was alive with energy as fans packed the arena to witness Georgetown's season opener. The spotlight was on Allen Iverson, the most anticipated college basketball star, but soon, another name would dominate the conversation: Alex Mo.

The Startling Opener

The commentator barely had time to react to what unfolded in the first seconds of the game.

"Oh my God! What did I just see?!" the Washington TV announcer exclaimed.

It began with Allen Iverson catching the opening tip from Alex Mo. In a move reminiscent of his high school football days, Iverson launched a quarterback-style long pass downcourt.

The recipient? Alex Mo, who had sprinted ahead of every defender the moment the ball left his hand during the tip-off.

The 6'11" freshman caught the pass just inside the three-point line, took three thunderous strides, and soared into the air.

BOOM!

The rim shook violently as Alex finished the play with a ferocious dunk.

"Three steps from the three-point line!" the commentator shouted. "People make three-step layups Alex Mo makes three-step dunks!"

The crowd erupted in cheers, and even Georgetown fans accustomed to Iverson's brilliance were stunned by Alex's athleticism.

A Dynamic Duo

As Alex jogged back on defense, he exchanged a midair high five with Iverson.

"Can't you lower your hand a little?" Alex teased.

Iverson smirked. "Show off your hops? Sure, big guy."

Their banter was cut short by Coach John Thompson's booming voice. "Enough chatting focus on defense!"

Though the opening play wasn't part of Thompson's game plan, it set the tone for what was to come.

Defensive Domination

On St. John's first possession, their point guard, George, attempted to drive into the paint and loft a floater over Alex.

"George's floater is a smart choice hard to block," the commentator began.

But before he could finish, Alex bent his knees, jumped, and extended his arm far above the rim. With a single hand, he snatched the ball midair like a pitcher catching a line drive.

The crowd gasped as Alex pivoted and launched a one-handed outlet pass to Iverson, who was already sprinting downcourt.

"Bang!"

Iverson caught the pass, weaved through two defenders with a dazzling crossover, and floated a layup into the hoop.

St. John's Struggles

The Red Storm's coach, Brand, watched in frustration from the sidelines. "Who is this guy?!" he shouted to his assistant.

The assistant fumbled through his notes. "His name's Alex Mo. Freshman. From LA. Joined Georgetown right before the season started."

Coach Brand shook his head in disbelief. "If we had a guy like him, we'd be unstoppable."

A Dazzling Display

The highlight reel plays kept coming.

On one possession, Iverson stole the ball from George and raced downcourt. Spotting Alex trailing behind, Iverson lobbed the ball off the backboard.

Alex leapt into the air, snatched the ball mid-flight, and finished with a powerful windmill dunk that left the rim shaking and the photographers near the hoop scrambling for safety.

"OH! MY! GOD!" the commentator screamed. "Who has ever seen a 6'11" center with the speed of a guard and the explosiveness of a forward? This is unreal!"

Overwhelming St. John's

St. John's defense, designed to contain Iverson in a half-court set, was useless against Georgetown's transition attack. The combination of Iverson's speed and Alex's power was overwhelming.

By halftime, the score was 46–20 in Georgetown's favor. Alex had already logged a near double-double with 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks.

Second Half: Closing It Out

With such a commanding lead, Coach Thompson eased off in the second half, pulling both Iverson and Alex early. St. John's, clearly outmatched, threw in the towel and shifted their focus to future games.

By the final buzzer, Georgetown secured a dominant 30-point victory, 78–48.

Postgame Praise

As the players celebrated on the court, Iverson draped an arm around Alex.

"Man, they're not ready for you," Iverson said, grinning.

Alex chuckled. "Let's keep it that way."

Coach Thompson joined them, clapping both players on the back. "You two are a nightmare for any team. Keep this up, and no one's stopping us."

The atmosphere in the Verizon Center was electric. Fans chanted Alex's name, while reporters scrambled to capture every moment.

A Star is Born

As the team left the court, the announcer summed it up perfectly:

"Celestial monster? Forget that. Alex Mo is more than a monster he's a revelation. And with him and Allen Iverson on the same team, Georgetown might just be unstoppable this season.
