NBA: Built to Dominate

Chapter 12: Chapter 12: 12 Wins, One Goal—Champions

The rumored 1-on-1 between Allen Iverson and Alex Mo had already taken on a life of its own.

Some said Iverson's dazzling dribbling and speed left Alex in the dust, while others claimed Alex's towering height and wingspan gave him the edge. And then there were those who insisted it never happened at all—just another myth with no video proof.

What everyone agreed on, though, was this: Georgetown was unstoppable.

Game 2: The Louisville Blowout

In their second game of the season, Georgetown faced the Louisville Cardinals in an away match. Iverson lit up the court, scoring a blistering 40 points in the first half alone, dismantling Louisville's backcourt with effortless speed and precision.

The home crowd sat in stunned silence as their team fell apart before their eyes.

Alex, meanwhile, played a supporting role in this game, quietly racking up 18 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 blocks.

"Georgetown Twins scored 58 points, led the team to victory over Louisville, and won two consecutive victories in the new season!" read The Washington Post the following day.

Dominance in the Division

The wins didn't stop there.

Double blowouts against Marquette's Golden Eagles.A commanding victory over the University of Cincinnati Bearcats.A 35-point rout of the South Florida Bulls at home.

By the end of their first 12 games, Georgetown had achieved a perfect record—12 wins in a row.

Their dominance wasn't just evident in the standings. Iverson averaged 27.8 points, 7.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game, while Alex Mo put up an eye-popping 26 points, 16.7 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks per game.

The media took notice. Georgetown's "Twin Terrors" became the talk of the NCAA.

Alex, in particular, was making history. He was only the third player in Georgetown history to average over 25 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game, joining the legendary ranks of Alonzo Mourning and Patrick Ewing.

Legends Take Notice

News of Alex's performances reached the NBA. After the New York Knicks' win at Madison Square Garden, reporters asked Patrick Ewing about the rising star from his alma mater.

"Mo Ran?" Ewing said, raising an eyebrow. "I haven't been following college ball this season, but if he's putting up numbers like that, I'll have to watch him live."

Alonzo Mourning echoed Ewing's sentiments after a Miami Heat game, adding, "It's great to see Georgetown producing elite big men again. I'll definitely check out a game soon."

Meanwhile, Dikembe Mutombo, ever loyal to his alma mater, declared, "I'm already a fan of Alex Mo. I'll be watching the next Georgetown game at home. Their next matchup against Villanova will be one to watch!"

The Villanova Challenge

Georgetown's next game loomed large. Their opponent: the defending Big East champions, the Villanova Wildcats.

Villanova's roster was stacked with talent, including three future NBA players:

Corey Kidles – Big East MVP and future NBA lottery pick.Alvin Williams – A sharp-scoring guard who would thrive in the NBA.Tim Thomas – A top-ranked high school center and eventual NBA lottery pick.

"Villanova's strength isn't up for debate," Coach John Thompson said during practice. "This is the toughest challenge we've faced so far. Treat it like a war."

Unfinished Business

For the returning Georgetown players, this matchup was deeply personal.

Villanova had ended their season the year before, eliminating them in the Big East semifinals. The memory of that loss still stung, especially for Iverson, who had been forced to watch the Wildcats claim the championship Georgetown believed was theirs.

Iverson, usually brash and talkative, was unusually quiet whenever Villanova came up.

"They knocked us out last year," Jerome Williams whispered to Alex, pulling him aside. "This game isn't just about staying undefeated. It's about revenge."

Alex grinned, his confidence unshaken. "Even better," he said, casually slinging an arm around Iverson's shoulder. "We'll take out the defending champs and settle the score. Two birds, one stone."

Iverson finally cracked a smile. "I like the way you think."

A Clash of Titans

The anticipation for the Villanova game was palpable. Fans, alumni, and even NBA scouts were lining up to see if Georgetown's perfect season could survive its biggest test yet.

Alex, unbothered by the pressure, had only one thought as he laced up his shoes for practice:

Champion? I'll show them what a real champion looks like.
