Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Fierce Offense! The Seasonal Muscle Gain Diet
**
"I can't believe what I just witnessed! Wang Song, weighing less than 230 pounds, overpowered Nick Collison, who's 255 pounds (115 kg)!"
Kenny Smith flipped through the player stats on his desk, pausing at the weight section with a hand on his forehead.
"This is like saying Charles the 'Big Fool' snatched a rebound from Shaq!"
Kenny couldn't resist poking fun at his broadcast partner.
Charles Barkley rolled his eyes and rubbed his smooth bald head, deep in thought.
Imagining himself in Nick Collison's position during that play, Barkley admitted that even in his prime, he'd struggle to withstand such a powerful post move from the seemingly slender Asian player.
Wang Song's physique didn't scream "power." If anything, he looked like a bamboo stick ready to be swept away by the wind. But that raw strength—how was it even possible?
---
On the sidelines, the Kansas Jayhawks' coaching staff was equally shocked.
Head coach Roy Williams was utterly dumbfounded. Based on all the pre-game analysis, Wang Song wasn't supposed to be a low-post powerhouse, much less someone with strength rivaling that of Shaquille O'Neal.
And yet, he had just pushed Collison, one of the NCAA's most renowned enforcers, out of position like a rag doll.
"How did we miss this in the footage? Or… has he been hiding this the entire season?"
---
"Offensive foul! How is that not a call?!"
Nick Collison was livid. Picking himself off the floor, he complained relentlessly to the referee.
"You didn't see him bulldoze me?! That was a charge!"
The referee remained unfazed, issuing a warning. "Nope. Legal play. Move along!"
Frustrated, Collison resorted to trash-talking Wang Song.
"Don't get cocky, rookie! You only got me because I wasn't braced. Just you wait!"
Wang Song ignored him completely. Actions spoke louder than words.
In the very next possession, Collison tried backing down Wang Song near the free-throw line.
*Thud! Thud!*
Two attempts to post up met with no success. Wang Song didn't budge an inch.
Defeated, Collison kicked the ball out to the perimeter for a three-point attempt.
*Clank!*
The shot hit iron. Wang Song grabbed the defensive rebound and quickly initiated a fast break.
---
"Transition defense! Hurry back!"
Roy Williams barked orders from the sideline, practically running alongside his players.
He was convinced that North Carolina's small-ball lineup could only succeed through fast-paced transition plays. With Wang Song's mobility, a defense-to-offense switch was their best chance.
But the Jayhawks had anticipated this and successfully neutralized the fast break.
---
"Hold on… something feels off."
Charles Barkley leaned forward, sensing a shift in dynamics.
"Kenny, has it occurred to you that it's not the Jayhawks' defense that's off but the Tar Heels' offense that's… different?"
As the commentators delved deeper into the game's nuances, the action on the court intensified.
North Carolina slowed the tempo after crossing half-court. Just like before, they shifted the ball to the strong side while Wang Song positioned himself in the low post on the weak side.
This time, his defender was Wayne Simien, another skilled big man.
The result? Identical to the previous play. Wang Song overpowered Simien and scored with ease.
Simien managed to stay on his feet, having braced himself better than Collison, but he couldn't stop Wang Song's dominant post move.
---
Wang Song's sheer efficiency in the paint left the Kansas crowd groaning.
Whenever the ball reached his hands in the low post, it was as if the stadium collectively sighed in despair.
Ball to Wang Song.
Groan.
Basket made.
Groan.
---
**Score: 18–22!**
North Carolina had cut the deficit to four points. Alarmed, Roy Williams called a timeout to regroup.
---
On the bench, Julius Hodge couldn't contain his excitement. After slapping hands with teammates, he sneakily leaned toward Wang Song and whispered:
"Hey, Wang, be honest with me. Did you hire a nutritionist or something? And when are you sneaking in extra strength training?!"
"You've kept up your muscle mass through this grueling season, and it feels like you've gotten even stronger! You've got to share that diet plan with me, man!"
