Nightmare Mythos

Chapter 180: War

Right now, they were in the makeshift camp that had been made using some spare wood and stone walls. Using different kinds of Facet just to build it swiftly, it was where survivors from the bombing gathered around.

"Just what the hell is happening here…?"

Arnold who might somehow know what the situation was all about was left confused like the others.

This terrorized attack has been down so elusively well that the only time everyone reacted was the day it happened.

And that is today.

Leah who was treating the scrape she received from the crash, hissed as she informed, "We in a Captain and above rank had a way to contact each other without any use of technology. We already told our superiors about the bombing of Dawn Breaker."

"Ah, that contract…" Arnold replied with a helpless tone before standing, "I have to get back to the Academy. Those ships are heading in that direction. A messenger might take a day to come and it is a lot of wasteful time. I'm afraid there will be nothing left if we continue to wait,"

Cesar massaged the bridge of his nose and stated, "What are you even going to use? Everything here is destroyed,"

Arnold gave Cesar a light glance before another miniature Nightmare appeared in his shadow and manifested in the real world.

The creature with feathers made out of leaves that didn't look frail at all spread across the air and slowly landed at his shoulders. The wings of the creature spread around them, covering at least five meters of the area.

'Man, what a showoff,'

Arnold then explained, "I can use this, however. I just wanted to show you the cards on my hands that did not seem to be the solution to our situation. All in all, you're right. I don't have anything to use,"

'Man, Arnold seems even crazier than me,'

Cesar shook his head as he waved his hand dismissively. He didn't know if Arnold was serious about doing that or pulling it as merely a joke.

In the end, the only thing they could do was wait.

But it didn't take long till help arrived from the city as hundreds of vehicles were deployed at their city.

While helping survivors and finding others more that were still under the rubble, Cesar saw a man leaving his vehicle. The moment their eyes laid upon the individual, some couldn't help but gasped in surprise.

The figure had a huge body, even stronger than every man that Cesar met. Wearing a military uniform with dozens of golden medals attached to his chest, the striking golden eyes of the figure soon fell on Vin, Arnold, and Leah.

"I forgive you for the late appearance. As you can see, Dawn Breaker isn't the only city that hasn't been targeted by the Revolutionary Army, something that they like to call themselves. The other Capitals across the world have been targeted as well." Discover hidden content at empire

The man with a very solid figure stated calmly, "Ah, where are my manners? I'll give you a brief introduction about myself for those who don't know. The name's Desmond Nares, a General, and I will be the one handling out the matters regarding The War that the Revolutionary Army had started,"

"War… you say?"

For some reason, Cesar was included in the gathering inside Desmond's vehicle as they slowly made their way toward the nearest Army Base. Now that the situation had progressed to the point that a war was already declared, Cesar knew he had to know the facts.

However, too much was happening.

First was the assassination attempts, and now a proactive war.

How is everything making sense?

Desmond looked at Arnold and nodded, "That's right, you heard me loud and clear. This War has been planned for a very long time, and believe me, we only began to discover such a thing after the events at the City of Wheels. But we never expected such scale to appear today,"

'That city again?'

Cesar and his squad looked at each other, confused at how everything was related together.

"How…?" Jacqueline asked with a frown on her face.

Desmond answered truthfully, "Truth to be told, our special force was tasked to do thorough research in that specific city and found out that unregistered 'wheels' were ready for transportation and shipping. We thought that these shipments were suspicions as no records had been stored on our databases of such transport hence we dug even deeper and the result only came into fruition a year later,"

Desmond took a long sigh, "We found out that illegal activities have been going around for a century now. Who knows if it already spanned before that? This occurrence didn't even happen at City of Wheels alone, but it was thanks to it that we're scraping under the grandeur of schemes.

Desmond began to hand over some papers and sensitive information to the rest inside as he added, "What we're trying to say is, such scale and operation haven't been seen for a century under our eyes. Thus suspicions lead to speculation until it became the truth that everyone from our ranks convinced each other,"

Cesar and others who were quick to catch up from that phrase alone couldn't help but wait for the words to come out of Desmond's mouth.

"Traitors,"

Desmond finally satiated their curiosity as he continued, "We believe the Army, the Academy, and the Hunter's Association have been bugged with such people who belonged to another group that we are not aware of. This is the reason why their flow of efficiency, management, and secrecy has been top-notched so far,"

Cesar can't help but remember the one Colonel, Franklin Donatello, from Arnold's mouth and the Administrator that he still wasn't aware of, and finally a Nightmare, for some reason, has been in cahoots with them.

'Shit…'

If Desmond's words are correct then that means not only Franklin or that hidden Administrator was the traitors.

It could actually be anyone.

If such a scale like this has been passed through the radar of the Powerhouses themselves, then a serious rearrangement soon had to happen.

But first things first.

"Let's worry about the Revolutionary Army's movement next,"
