Chapter 6: THE WAR
CHAPTER SIX
Later that day, the atmosphere shifted when my brother Anthony, the CEO of our company, called for a meeting. As he stood at the front of the room, his presence commanded attention. "I want to invite everyone to a dinner party to celebrate the New Year," he announced, a smile spreading across his face. "It'll be a great opportunity for us to unwind and enjoy each other's company."
The room buzzed with excitement, but I felt a knot tighten in my stomach. I wasn't sure I was ready to face everyone, especially after the incident with Diva and Helen.
As the day wore on, I found myself in the restroom, trying to gather my thoughts. Just then, I overheard voices outside. Helen and Diva were arguing, their words sharp and heated.
"I can't believe you had the nerve to confront me like that!" Diva spat, her voice rising. "You think you can just push me around because you like Alex?"
Helen shot back, "Maybe if you weren't so obsessed with him, you wouldn't be in this mess!"
I felt a surge of anxiety as I stepped out of the restroom, my heart racing. I had to intervene before things escalated further. But as I turned the corner, I saw Helen stumble backward, and Diva lunged forward, their bodies colliding.
"Stop!" I shouted, rushing to separate them. But the chaos had already drawn a crowd, and I could feel the weight of their stares.
Helen fell to the ground, and I instinctively reached out to help her up. "Are you okay?" I asked, my heart pounding.
"I know you don't like me, but please don't kill me just because I love Alex!" she exclaimed, her eyes wide with fear.
The room erupted in laughter and jeers directed at Diva. "You're just jealous!" someone shouted, and the crowd began to curse her, their voices a cacophony of disdain.
Diva stood there, her face flushed with anger and humiliation. "I didn't push her!" she protested, but no one was listening. The tide had turned against her, and I felt a pang of sympathy for her plight, despite everything.
