Chapter 54: Chapter Fifty-Four - REMATCH
ROME
Before us stood the towering monstrosity, a menacing presence that had spurred our vow to eradicate all such creatures from the world. Its scarred eyes served as a grim reminder of the havoc it had wrought. Yet, something was different this time. It exuded a newfound strength and refinement, though we too had grown in power."You piece of shit!" Laylah's voice pierced the air, laced with fury.Durato's resolve echoed hers. "We won't run from you again! This ends now!" he declared, his tone resolute.I gazed upon the beast, the very being responsible for tearing Yuweh from our grasp. Anger surged within me, a tempest waiting to be unleashed in honor of both Grandpa and Yuweh. I knew my companions shared the sentiment. With a burst of energy, Laylah surged forward, her crimson aura blazing like wildfire. Durato followed suit, his strikes a symphony of strength and speed, overwhelming the creature with relentless fury.Yet, despite our onslaught, the monster emitted a deafening screech, repelling Laylah and Durato with a surge of nova force. Without pause, they signaled their coordinated attack. "Plasma blast! Density Transfiguration!" they chorused, unleashing their ultimate techniques.Durato's form shimmered with azure energy as he manipulated the very fabric of reality around him. With a mighty heave, he uprooted a towering tree, hurtling it towards our adversary.Meanwhile, Laylah's hands crackled with red plasma, the air around her pulsating with unrestrained power. Her crimson gaze bore into the monster, a portrait of ferocity and determination.I activated my ethereal vision , sensing the impending danger. The monster's nova force surged to a critical level, signaling an imminent counterattack. I knew we needed a diversion.Crouching low, I invoked my gravitational force, sending ripples through the ground. Charging towards Laylah, I then grabbed her and whispered, "Trust me, I have a plan. Keep focusing." With unwavering trust, she nodded, her resolve unwavering.Together, we soared into the sky, defying gravity's hold. With newfound speed, we evaded the monster's impending assault, positioning ourselves for the decisive strike to come.We shot to the sky as fast as possible, reversing the effects of gravity on myself which keeps me grounded to the earth so I could travel faster. The monster looked upwards towards us,still charging it's attack but Durato had another plan for it."Hey, ugly, Im right here." Said Durato as the earth effortlessly hugged his feet he glided over the ground as fast as possible towards the monster but the end of it's tail lit up and it released energy beams at Durato while still looking at Laylah and myself flying upwards..Durato effortlessly dodged the energy beams. The beams kicked up a storm of dust as it landed on the ground. Durato used the opportunity, leaping up into the air while allowing his body to become more denser. He then landed an punch so powerful it kicked up a shockwave which caused the monster to lose focus, in turn the attack the monster was gearing up to release was about to explode right in it's face and near to Durato.I had to act swiftly, my mind racing as I recalled the grueling practice sessions from weeks past. The idea of manipulating gravity had sparked within me then, a desperate attempt to gain an edge in this unforgiving world. Failure had been my constant companion, each attempt draining me of energy until I collapsed from sheer exhaustion. But giving up was never an option, not when the lives of my friends hung in the balance. "Rome, if this lands, Durato won't stand a chance. What's the plan?" Laylah's voice broke through my thoughts, her concern mirroring my own."You're doing your part. Trust me to handle this. Just give me 20 seconds, then unleash your attack. That scourge will pay for what he's done," I assured her, my voice steady despite the weight of uncertainty."Take a deep breath as soon as I depart, then count to 20 before releasing it," I instructed before taking flight, leaving Laylah suspended in the air as I soared towards Durato and the looming threat. As I soared through the sky, leaving Laylah suspended in midair, my focus honed on reaching Durato, who stood perilously close to the monstrous threat. With every fiber of my being, I pushed myself to fly faster, driven by the urgency of the moment.Upon reaching the ground with a resounding thud, I wasted no time in seizing a nearby chunk of rock. In that fleeting moment, I recalled Newton's profound laws of gravity, understanding the fundamental principles that governed the world around me. Every object, no matter how small, possessed the potential to exert its influence on the world through the force of gravity.Though the rock in my hand lacked the mass to exert significant gravitational pull on its own, I knew that with my abilities, I could amplify its effects. With unwavering determination, I focused my energy, channeling it into increasing the gravitational force of the stone until it became the epicenter of my power. With a swift motion, I hurled the stone with all the strength I could muster, knowing that my life and the lives of my friends depended on the success of this daring maneuver. As the rock hurtled through the air, I tethered myself to its gravitational field, allowing it to pull me along with incredible speed. In the blink of an eye, I closed the distance to Durato, who stood frozen in astonishment at the sudden turn of events. With reflexes honed by necessity, I reached out and snatched him from harm's way, our bodies propelled forward by the force of the speeding rock.In that fleeting moment, as we surged away from imminent danger, I couldn't help but marvel at the sheer audacity of our escape. It was a testament to the power of quick thinking and unwavering resolve in the face of overwhelming odds.As we hurtled through the air, leaving Laylah behind to unleash her attack, I felt a surge of adrenaline coursing through my veins. We streaked across the landscape, our surroundings blurring into a chaotic whirlwind of motion. With a distance of half a mile between us and the danger, we both exerted every ounce of effort to bring ourselves to a halt. I released the gravitational pull on the stone and myself, feeling the weightlessness as the force dissipated, while Durato anchored himself firmly to the ground, his feet digging into the earth to slow our momentum. As we came to a stop, breathless and exhilarated, Durato turned to me with wide eyes, his voice tinged with disbelief. "Wow, dude, what just happened?"Gathering my thoughts, I offered him a brief explanation of the daring maneuver that had saved us from certain peril. "It's a new ability I've been experimenting with," I explained, trying to make sense of the extraordinary feat we had just accomplished. "By increasing the gravitational pull on the rock and tethering it to myself, I essentially became like the earth, while the stone became like the sun, pulling me along with its force."Durato's expression shifted from bewilderment to awe as he processed the explanation, a newfound respect shining in his eyes. And as we stood together, catching our breath amidst the aftermath of our harrowing escape, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in our ability to overcome even the most daunting challenges."Incredible, I guess we were all getting stronger," Durato replied, his voice tinged with a mixture of awe and admiration as we stood together, watching Laylah unleash her devastating attack. As Laylah hovered above, her determination evident in every line of her stance, a sense of anticipation hung thick in the air. Time seemed to slow as she began to count down, her voice echoing with unwavering resolve."One," her voice rang out, clear and unwavering, carrying with it a promise of imminent destruction."Two," the anticipation built, each number falling from her lips like a drumbeat, resonating with the tension of the moment. "Three," the air crackled with energy, anticipation reaching a fever pitch as Laylah's power surged, her focus unyielding. And so she continued, each number a testament to her unwavering determination and the raw power she wielded. With every count, the sky seemed to darken, charged with the impending release of her formidable plasma blast."Seventeen," the tension reached its zenith, the air heavy with anticipation as Laylah prepared to unleash her fury upon our foe."Eighteen," her voice trembled with the weight of her power, her resolve unshakable as she drew upon every ounce of her strength."Nineteen," a final surge of energy rippled through the atmosphere, a harbinger of the devastation to come. And then, with a resounding cry that echoed across the battlefield, Laylah reached the culmination of her countdown."Twenty!!!"In that instant, the sky erupted with blinding light as Laylah unleashed her powerful plasma blast, a torrent of searing energy hurtling towards our enemy with unstoppable force. The ground trembled beneath us as the blast tore through the air, leaving destruction in its wake. Trees around the area were turned to ash. It was like a bomb capable of leveling a small community was droppedAs the dust settled and the echoes of Laylah's attack faded into the distance, we stood in stunned silence, marveling at the sheer magnitude of her power. In that moment, there was no doubt in my mind that Laylah had become a force to be reckoned with.As we stood there, panting and trying to catch our breath, the monster before us let out a final, pained screech before falling to the ground, defeated. Laylah and Durato had given it their all, and with my timely intervention, we had emerged victorious. The battle had taken a toll on all of us. The area around us was devastated, with debris and smoke blanketing the ground. The sheer scale of the destruction was overwhelming. The area had been reduced to rubble, and the landscape was marred by craters and scorched earth. Miraculously, the only place that had escaped unscathed was where Master Zonare had been sitting, adding to the surreal nature of the scene.I turned to my companions, who were both nursing their wounds. "Are you two okay?" I asked, concern etched on my face.Laylah and Durato both nodded, though they looked battered and bruised. "We'll be fine," Laylah said, her voice strained. "But we have to be more careful next time. That monster was stronger than we anticipated."I nodded in agreement. "We need to be prepared for anything that comes our way," I said gravely. "But for now, let's get out of here and tend to our injuries."As we walked towards Master Zonare with victory smiles and tears in our eyes, something approached us at breakneck speed. We didn't have time to react, our energy depleted from defeating the monster. "Is this it?" I wondered. "After avenging our friend, are we just going to die?"A blinding flash erupted before my eyes, followed by a powerful explosion that sent us flying. I struggled to see, my energy too drained to focus. After a few seconds, everything became clear. Master Zonare stood firm, holding off another scorpion dragon monster with one hand. This beast was even larger than the one we had fought, yet he stopped it like a car crashing into a steel-reinforced wall. The air grew hot, filled with his immense energy. His eyes glowed bright gold, and in that moment, we all realized what we were witnessing. Even the monster, stronger than any we had faced before, began to retreat in fear of this slim, six-foot man.I watched as his lips moved, deciphering his words: "Atomic control, dismantle... 5%."A brilliant light flared, and in an instant, the monster was gone. What remained was a massive crater, wider and longer than three football fields, with everything in its path obliterated. We stood there, speechless, as Master Zonare strolled over to us. The closer he got, the more intense his energy felt."Hey guys, while watching you fight, I thought of nicknames for you all," he said casually, as if nothing extraordinary had just happened. "You call me Master, so you should have cool names too. Laylah, you were the first to attack, so you'll be Uno. Durato, you'll be Dos, and Rome, since you stood there without reacting, you'll be Zero.""So you're telling me you could have ended that monster in seconds and left us fighting for our lives?!" Durato shouted."You could have at least helped us a bit!" Laylah added."I won't always be around to help you," Master Zonare replied with a smile. "I need to see the results of your training. Besides, it was fun watching you all." He walked away, leaving us in stunned silence."Oh let me heal you all up."He added as he turned back towards us.With a casual wave of his hand, he healed us all as if it were the easiest thing in the world. In mere seconds, our wounds vanished, leaving us in awe. Despite his goofy demeanor, he was full of surprises and possessed immense power."Are you going to come with us? We could use your strength and guidance," Laylah asked hopefully."No, I'm staying here. Everything I ever had and everyone I once loved is still here. I can't just leave them," the Master replied, his voice tinged with nostalgia."But you'll be here all alone," Laylah protested."It's okay, my dear. I'll be fine. I've been alone long before you all arrived. It was a joy having you here; you're all like my grandchildren," he said with a warm smile."We'll miss you," Laylah said softly.
"Come on, bring it in," he commanded, opening his arms wide for a hug. Despite Durato and me trying to resist, he pulled us into a tight embrace, chuckling at our futile attempts to escape.
