Chapter 102: One Piece: A Side Story – The Forgotten Isle (Part 103)
The crew plunged into the rift without hesitation, their bodies pulled by an invisible force, tumbling through the very fabric of time. The ground beneath them shattered into fragments of past and future, and the air twisted with the sharp scent of forgotten memories. Luffy, ever the optimist, grinned wildly as he fell.
"This is awesome!" he shouted, not even bothering to brace for the inevitable landing. "Let's see what's next!"
Despite their usual ability to roll with any situation, the rest of the crew felt the weight of what they were about to face. Time itself was unraveling around them, and the sense of urgency grew. As they tumbled through the rift, flashes of different eras passed before their eyes—glimpses of ancient battles, long-forgotten civilizations, and cities yet to be built. It was as if they were being shown the entire history of the world in mere seconds.
Robin, always the historian, reached out a hand as the fleeting images caught her attention. "These are… moments in time, aren't they? These flashes… they're real. But how?"
Franky, holding onto a beam of light that appeared out of nowhere, grinned like a madman. "Who cares? This is like a rollercoaster ride through history! Let's just get through it!"
Before anyone could reply, the ground beneath them solidified in an instant, and the crew was thrown onto a hard, ancient stone floor. They landed with a collective crash, but it was clear they had arrived at their next trial.
They looked around, rising to their feet with caution. The world around them was eerily still, a vast, forgotten battlefield that stretched for miles. Broken weapons littered the ground, and the remnants of long-dead warriors lay scattered across the field. The sky was dark and ominous, with clouds swirling above as if drawn into the vortex of time itself.
"This place… it feels like a graveyard," Zoro muttered, his swords at the ready. "What is this?"
The figure they had encountered before, the flickering being who seemed to control the trials, stood at the far end of the battlefield. It spoke without moving, its voice carrying across the desolate landscape.
"You stand upon the Battlefield of Time. Here, the past's greatest warriors are eternally locked in combat, caught in a loop they cannot escape. They fought, they bled, and they died for causes long forgotten. Now, their fates are tied to the Heart of the Forgotten Isle. You must face them if you wish to proceed."
Luffy's eyes lit up with excitement. "Fighting?! Now you're speaking my language!"
The crew exchanged uneasy glances. They had faced countless challenges, but something about this place felt different. Time seemed to twist here, and the atmosphere was heavy with the weight of lost history.
"Their souls are bound to this field," Robin explained, her brow furrowing. "They can never leave. But if we want to continue, we'll have to face them in battle. We might not be able to win by just brute strength."
Nami nodded, clutching her staff. "We can't underestimate them. They fought in wars across ages. They might have skills we've never seen before."
Franky flexed his mechanical arms, ready for anything. "Hey, we've taken on enemies that seemed impossible before. We just need to stick together."
Luffy, always eager for a challenge, clenched his fist. "Don't worry, everyone! We'll show them how it's done!"
Suddenly, the ground trembled, and the sound of distant war drums echoed across the battlefield. The crew turned to see a new figure materialize in front of them. It was a warrior clad in ancient armor, their face hidden behind a steel mask. The air seemed to grow colder, and a shadowy mist swirled around their form, distorting time itself.
The figure raised a massive sword, its edge shimmering with a faint, supernatural glow. "I am the Guardian of this field. You must defeat me before you can move forward."
Luffy's grin widened, and he cracked his knuckles. "A fight? Perfect!"
Without warning, the Guardian of the battlefield lunged at them with blinding speed. Its sword swung down with such force that the ground itself cracked beneath the blow. The crew scattered, barely avoiding the strike.
Zoro was the first to react, drawing his swords in an instant. "Let's go, Luffy! I'll take care of this guy!"
Luffy darted toward the Guardian, his rubbery limbs stretching to dodge the next swing of the sword. "I'm gonna give this guy a taste of my Gomu Gomu no…!" He prepared his signature move, but before he could finish, the Guardian vanished into thin air, reappearing behind him.
"Impossible…" Luffy muttered, narrowly avoiding the blade that cut through the air where he had just been standing.
The Guardian's voice echoed around them, its tone cold and commanding. "Time bends for those who dare challenge it. Can you truly defeat an enemy who controls the flow of time itself?"
Robin, always analyzing her surroundings, studied the battlefield with precision. "We need to think strategically. This warrior is manipulating time in ways we can't see. We must find a way to counter it."
Just as the Guardian moved to strike again, Franky unleashed a barrage of powerful punches, his body glowing with the force of his cyborg enhancements. "Super! Franky! Cannon!" The blasts collided with the Guardian, sending shockwaves across the field.
The Guardian staggered back, momentarily disoriented, but it quickly regained its composure. "You are not the first to challenge me," it said, its form flickering like a mirage. "But you will be the last."
Luffy, still grinning, looked back at his crew. "Let's all go at once! We've got this!"
The crew spread out, ready to coordinate their attack. Sanji leaped into the air with his powerful legs, striking from above, while Zoro took the front with his swords, matching the Guardian's every movement. Robin used her Devil Fruit powers to create multiple arms, attacking from all sides. Chopper prepared his Monster Point form, and Franky revved up for another explosive attack.
But just as they were about to strike together, the ground beneath them cracked open, and the very fabric of time seemed to break.
The Guardian's voice echoed once more. "The battle is only the beginning. To truly challenge time, you must first understand it."
The air around them shimmered, and the world seemed to warp as if the battle itself was being replayed over and over, each cycle growing faster and more chaotic.
And in that moment, the crew realized they were not just fighting the Guardian—they were fighting against time itself.
To be continued...
