Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Panic at Ryugu Palace
"What the hell?!"
Jack roared in frustration, his voice booming across the area and sending a shiver down the spines of the newly surrendered pirates. Despite his rage, the grim reality couldn't be altered.
Gripping his spiked club, Jack began thrashing at the surrounding environment, venting his fury on the hapless terrain.
"Holdem-sama!"
"What's going on with Jack-sama?"
Bart and Cleo watched Jack's rampage with growing concern, their eyes darting nervously toward Holdem.
"Oh, it's nothing to worry about," Holdem reassured them in a calm voice. "When Jack was young, he had an encounter with someone called 'The System.' That guy tricked him and nearly got him killed, leaving Jack with some... lasting scars."
"So every now and then, when he remembers it, he gets like this. But don't worry—he won't hurt us." Holdem chuckled faintly. "If he ever thinks about The System while aboard the ship, he just jumps into the sea to cool off."
Hearing this explanation, Bart murmured, "Sounds like this 'System' guy must've conned Jack-sama out of a lot of money."
"Money? Maybe not."
Rim, who had been quietly observing, stepped closer and added, "I heard that when Lord Jack was younger, he had a… peculiar quirk. He either liked spanking people or being spanked himself."
"Huh?"
"Yeah." Rim's confirmation made the group glance toward Jack, now pounding away at the ground, with a twinge of pity in their eyes.
"Awoooo!"
Jack, having transformed into his mammoth form, let out a thunderous bellow before stampeding into the forest. His retreating figure only deepened the pirates' sympathetic expressions.
Jack didn't return until dawn. By then, Holdem had led a team inland to loot whatever spoils the island had to offer. When Jack finally reappeared, his face was expressionless, but the pirates' ships were already filled to the brim with gold, jewels, and supplies.
After hoisting the Beast Pirates' flag over the island, Jack left behind about 200 men. The rest, led by Cleo, Bart, and a few squad leaders, were sent to the Ailen Island aboard the captured ships. The reason was simple: their next destination was the Grand Line—and to get there, they had to pass through Fish-Man Island.
Thanks to his Fish-Man heritage, Jack was confident he could secure entry. Moreover, he planned to recruit additional forces there, adding a unique contingent to his ranks.
Meanwhile, Rim returned to his quarters. Unlocking a hidden compartment, he carefully retrieved several small chests. After some searching, he pulled out a Log Pose—the permanent kind that pointed directly to their next destination.
These permanent Log Poses were priceless and had been personally entrusted to Rim by Kaido himself before Jack's departure. Unlike other officers, even the Tobiroppo, Jack's ship was equipped with numerous permanent Log Poses. This, Rim knew, reflected Kaido's high regard for Jack—placing him on par with the other All-Stars like King and Queen.
What Rim didn't know was that during the Beast Pirates' leaner days, Kaido had often "recorded" new islands himself and sold permanent Log Poses on the black market to fund their operations. Most of the ones aboard their ship were Kaido's personal work, with the notable exception of the Log Pose to Fish-Man Island.
To reach Fish-Man Island, the ship would need to undergo coating—a task Rim was charged with overseeing. However, Jack's behavior during this time became increasingly bizarre. Even as the coating process began, he spent his days in mammoth form, wandering deep into the forest. It wasn't until the third day, when the coating was complete, that Jack returned, visibly pleased.
During those days, the townsfolk lived in constant fear. Even at night, the forest echoed with the howls of animals. Rim, recalling Jack's peculiar tendencies, couldn't help but grimace as he glanced toward the woods.
"Has it gotten worse? Are humans not enough for him anymore? Has he moved on to animals?"
"Hey! What are you standing around for? Let's go!"
Jack's impatient shout snapped Rim out of his thoughts, and he hurried aboard the ship.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, plunging everything into darkness, the Mammoth lit up with bright lamps and began its descent. The deeper they went, the more the crew's excitement grew. For many of them, it was their first time venturing to such depths.
Even Jack stood on the deck, silently watching as massive sea creatures loomed closer to the ship. But then…
"Wait a minute… that's a Sea Beast! It's going to eat us!"
Excitement quickly turned to panic. Rim, donning a bubble helmet, rushed to the deck to help fend off the creature. Encounters with Sea Beasts and Sea Kings were a common hazard, and many pirate crews perished in these waters because of them. Fortunately, Jack's intervention kept the Mammoth safe, allowing it to proceed unharmed.
When Fish-Man Island finally came into view, it was like something out of a fairy tale—a dreamlike kingdom shimmering beneath the sea. Even the roughest, most hardened pirates fell silent, momentarily captivated by its beauty.
Surrounded by double-layered bubbles, the island's only accessible entrance was tightly controlled by Ryugu Palace. As the Mammoth drew closer to the entrance, the pirates regained their rowdy demeanor.
"I've heard the mermaid chicks here are drop-dead gorgeous!"
"This is going to be a feast for the eyes!"
"Haha! Can't wait to snag a few to bring back!"
"But don't mermaids only grow legs when they hit thirty?"
"Who cares? We'll figure it out later!"
As their chatter grew cruder, Rim couldn't take it anymore and bellowed, "Shut up, you idiots!"
The pirates froze mid-laugh. Rim continued, "This is Whitebeard's territory! You'd better not cause trouble unless you're looking to die! And don't forget—this is Jack-sama's homeland!"
"Ah… sorry, Jack-sama…"
"Quiet!"
Jack's single roar silenced the crew completely. The Mammoth entered the long tunnel leading to the island and came to a halt at the dock.
In Ryugu Palace, the Right Minister stared at the monitor in horror. The flag flying on the approaching ship made his blood run cold.
"Sound the alarm! Inform King Neptune immediately! That… that's the Beast Pirates!"
"What?!"
