Chapter 36: Chapter 36 : Burned Warship, Angry Akainu
"Hoo… hoo…"
The sound of piercing, howling winds echoed.
The sheer density of volcanic bombs continued to rain down, and the terrifying heatwave swept through the battlefield.
"Hey…"
Fingri screamed in terror as his hair stood on end, unable to evade the relentless barrage.
However, Akainu, the future Marine Admiral, did not launch his attacks recklessly, wasting energy aimlessly.
His assaults were overwhelming—burning with the intent to reduce everything to ash.
Escape was futile.
"Don't panic…"
Above, Wilhelm observed the relentless storm of black and red fist-shaped volcanic bombs hurtling toward Fingley.
Despite the overwhelming pressure, Wilhelm remained calm and even smiled lightly. "I can't afford such a grand welcome!"
In the blink of an eye, his expression shifted.
A dazzling, blue light flashed across his gaze.
"Brush—"
Without warning, a massive warship appeared directly in front of the bombardment.
Standing firmly, it blocked the onslaught of volcanic bombs.
"What!?"
A sudden shift in the battle.
Sakazuki's face twisted in shock, his composure breaking for the first time.
But it was already too late to stop.
"Boom…"
In an instant, an enormous wave of intensely crimson, bubbling hot volcanic bombs struck the warship with devastating force.
The barrage tore through the vessel, reducing it to fragments.
"Woo hoo hoo…"
The explosions roared endlessly, filling the air with flames and thick smoke.
The heat was unbearable, and the terrifying heatwave spread rapidly across the ocean.
Onboard, the reserve ammunition ignited, causing explosions that echoed with violent force.
"Ahhh…"
Marines screamed in agony as they were incinerated, unable to escape the fiery destruction.
The devastation happened so quickly they couldn't understand why Akainu's volcanic bombs were targeting their own warship.
The shattered warship, along with countless wreckage, plummeted into the sea.
"Boom…"
"Clatter…"
"Jee—"
The massive eagle and vulture flapped its wings, soaring high into the sky.
Below them, the flames continued to burn on the sea surface, and the sinking warship continued to emit smoke.
Finley let out a cry of relief, his voice filled with joy—he was a survivor.
"Crack, crack..."
Akainu, with his body covered in searing magma, stepped onto the air, keeping himself aloft. His livid expression darkened as he glared at the massive eagle soaring above him, and directly at Wilhelm on Finley's back. His fury erupted: "Damn it, Charlotte's brat!"
He had never anticipated the opponent's ability would be so strange.
In that crucial moment, there had been no reaction from him whatsoever.
The entire warship beneath his feet was suddenly transferred within range of his magma attack, leaving him vulnerable and defenseless.
"Laozi can't spare you... Shaved Moonwalk!"
He stomped down hard on the air.
In an instant, he disappeared from his position, his movements fast and deadly.
Combining the techniques of Moonwalk and Shave, Akainu charged toward Wilhelm at an astonishing speed, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.
"Your mission is complete; you don't need to stay here..."
Wilhelm stood firm as Akainu closed in with a murderous look in his eyes, a fierce grin spreading across his face.
Rather than retreat, he launched himself off Finley's back in a flash, closing the gap between them.
"Jee--"
Finley flapped his wings with all his might in response to his master's command.
He ascended higher into the sky, leaving Wilhelm to face Akainu alone.
"****ing brat!"
In the blink of an eye, Akainu had arrived in front of Wilhelm.
His massive, magma-enveloped fist, burning with Armament Haki, slammed down with overwhelming force.
"Die, you bastard!"
"Canglanglang--"
The Shichiseiken was instantly drawn.
Surrounded by Armament Haki, it met the searing fist head-on.
Magma bubbled continuously, splashing into the air and into the sea, where clouds of steam erupted from the heated water.
"Woohoo-"
The collision unleashed an intense heatwave, making it difficult to breathe or see clearly.
"Sigh, chirp..."
"Boom!!"
"Keng!!"
In that instant, the sound of clashing steel echoed through the battlefield.
Two figures stood locked in combat—one massive, the other agile.
Akainu's hot, searing red fist marks met Wilhelm's dark green blade, clashing with sparks and arcs of electricity flickering between them.
Each strike was met with the other's force, yet neither gave ground easily.
Wilhelm's sword slashed through the air, cutting fiercely, while Akainu's magma-infused fists struck with unrelenting power.
The air buzzed with tension as the two warriors separated, only to collide again in a storm of raw power.
Suddenly, without warning, a surge of magma erupted from Akainu's fist mid-contact, sending a dangerous heatwave toward Wilhelm.
"Boom!!"
The force of the magma explosion forced Wilhelm back, sending him tumbling through the air. His grip on the Shichiseiken wavered, trembling from the sheer force behind Akainu's attack.
"This power… is worthy of being Marine's future Admiral!" Wilhelm gasped, his arms feeling numb as he struggled to regain balance. The blade nearly slipped from his hand as he was hurled back by the devastating force.
"Crack, crack..."
Akainu didn't relent. His steps were firm and brutal as he pressed forward. Lava bubbled and flowed from his fists, emanating unbearable heat as he advanced with the ferocity of a beast.
Seeing the imposing figure rushing towards him again, Wilhelm adjusted his footing mid-air and steadied himself. Without hesitation, he extended his left hand, claws forming with precision.
"Flying Blade Blood Claw!"
"Shhhhh…"
A flurry of razor-sharp, blood-red claw blades surged forward, laced with invisible Armament Haki. Each blade shimmered with deadly intent as they sliced through the atmosphere like deadly Sakura petals.
Akainu's right arm, engulfed in molten magma and reinforced with hardened Armament Haki, acted as a shield. Each strike clashed against the protective barrier, sizzling and splashing magma with every impact.
"Boom…"
A blinding flash of heat and force sent waves crashing against both combatants. Despite Wilhelm's relentless attack, his claws proved futile against Akainu's impregnable defense.
"Crack, crack..."
With a sharp exhale, Wilhelm managed to stabilize himself mid-air, using Moonwalk to land safely on the wreckage of the burning battleship below.
Akainu, equally composed, landed with a heavy, deliberate step beside him. Their weapons drawn, they now stood face to face on the battlefield, their battle far from over.
