"Huh?"
Hearing this, the three little guys didn't realize they were being teased. Suddenly, the bosses opened their mouths and glared angrily at the black-haired teenager.
"Damn it, I was fooled by you again!"
Roy's freckled face turned red in an instant. He straightened up angrily, rolled up his sleeves, and stormed to the shore, ready to pick a fight with the black-haired teenager.
However, the next moment, he accidentally stepped into thin air, and with a stumble, he plunged into the stream with a loud "poof."
"Ouch!"
The splash soaked Anderson and Little Fat Bill's faces. As they watched Roy struggle in the water, they exchanged glances, their eyes filled with amusement.
However, not long after, Roy, still half-submerged in the water, suddenly exclaimed. After a few frantic movements, he lifted his head out of the water with joy:
"Anson! Bill! Come and look! This is a crayfish! A lot of crayfish!"
"Crayfish?"
Anderson and Bill were stunned, but they quickly reacted. Their faces lit up, and they dove into the water one after another.
A moment later, there was only the sound of splashing as the three little guys emerged from the water, all smiles. In their hands were large nets filled with live blue-and-white crayfish, still struggling.
Roy looked at their catch, sniffed with pride, then seemed to remember something. He turned his gaze to the black-haired teenager on the shore, raised the crayfish in his hand, and proudly called out:
"Hey, Shanuo, see this? Don't expect me to catch any fish today. All these crayfish were discovered by me! What do you say? Want me to show mercy and share some with you?"
Saying this, Roy turned around, hiding the fishing net with the crayfish behind his back, clearly unwilling to share with the black-haired teenager.
"Roy, it's not right for us to do this…" Little Fat Bill was startled by his actions and quickly tugged at the corner of his shirt. "No matter what, Brother Shanuo has helped us so many times. How can we…"
"Tch, what's wrong? Who told this bastard to mess with us?" Roy raised his head proudly and interrupted Little Fat Bill. Looking for support, he turned to Anderson. "Isn't that right, Anderson? Let's take these crayfish home and split them among us!"
Anderson hesitated but then, remembering his earlier unease, steeled himself, adjusted his black-framed glasses, and gritted his teeth. "Okay, it's settled!"
"These three little rascals…"
The black-haired teenager on the shore looked at the scene in front of him, speechless. The expressions on the three little guys' faces, revealing their childishness, seemed particularly amusing. However, when he noticed his own youthful, slightly childish face reflected in the stream, he couldn't help curling his lips, suppressing his laughter.
His name was Shanuo. He appeared to be an ordinary teenager living in Orange Town, but in reality, his soul came from Earth, far across time and space, belonging to the same person.
It was a strange story—Shanuo, in his previous life, had been a young man in his early twenties, recently out of a chaotic college life. He'd been job hunting desperately, facing rejection after rejection, until he found himself angry and frustrated. He planned to meet a friend at an Internet café to relax his mood. What he didn't expect was that after losing repeatedly in a game, he went on a rampage, lashing out at his friend, who had also failed, until he finally left the café with a depressed expression.
If that were the end, it wouldn't be so bad. What Shanuo never expected was that when he stepped out of the café, a runaway bus came speeding toward him, hitting him and sending him flying into the air.
In that instant, his body died, but his soul was transported into the body of a nine-year-old boy with the same name in a completely different world. Shanuo's mind was flooded with the memories of his new life, and he quickly realized he had been transported to the world of One Piece, where he was a boy who had lost his mother in the East Blue, in a small town called Orange Town.
His father, who had disappeared at sea the year before, was rumored to have joined a famous pirate crew. His only surviving relative had become a pirate.
When Shanuo learned all of this, his first impulse was to end it all, trying to either travel back or escape to another world.
Wasn't this ridiculous?
Although Shanuo had been obsessed with One Piece in his previous life, enjoying all its stories and characters, he also knew that this world was full of danger, with strange abilities and powerful foes appearing all the time. For an ordinary person like him, it seemed like death was just waiting around the corner.
Not to mention, his new identity was that of a weak teenager, barely scraping by through fishing.
Fortunately, just as he was about to give up, he found something else in his mind—a legacy system called the Jifeng Swordsman Inheritance System, which seemed to have come from his past life. As he began to explore this system, Shanuo gradually calmed down. With the changes brought by the system, he slowly adapted to this world and began to find his place.
And so, three years passed.
.....
Shanuo's thoughts drifted, and his gaze returned to Roy, who was proudly flaunting his catch. He shook his head helplessly and said, "Roy, it's not right to take someone else's things. Are you going to leave that crayfish?"
"Ha? What do you mean?" Roy was stunned. Before he could react, Shanuo raised his empty hands with a smile and said, "Don't forget, you came here today to see how I catch fish. It's almost dark now. What, you really think I've done nothing?"
"Hmm?"
Hearing this, the others noticed that Shanuo, famous for his fishing skills, hadn't caught a single fish today, which seemed strange.
Suddenly, Anderson, the smartest of the group, seemed to have an epiphany. He raised the fishing net in his hand, surprised. "Brother Shanuo, you're telling me that you caught all these crayfish, right?"
"How is that possible?"
Roy immediately became defensive. He sniffed and glared at Shanuo. "Are you trying to steal all our crayfish? I knew that's what you were up to!"
"Forget it, Brother Shanuo's right. Let's give them back to him." Anderson, adjusting his glasses, finally understood the situation. "Roy, as far as I know, no one uses nets in this section of the stream. The only house nearby is Brother Shanuo's, and he's been underwater for a while. Since there are no fish, he must have been catching crayfish."
"Haha, Anderson's right. Now I don't have to explain anything to these two clueless little guys."
With Anderson's explanation, Shanuo smiled and, as expected, Roy shot him a disgruntled look.
"Alright, give them back."
After being scolded by his friends, Roy finally understood the true owner of the crayfish. Grumbling, he dragged the fishing net to the shore and handed it over to Shanuo.
Shanuo took the net with the crayfish and looked at the three boys, who were eyeing him greedily. After a moment of thought, he smiled and said, "It's getting late, and I'm sure your families have already started cooking. I won't keep these. But if you want, you can come over for dinner tomorrow. I'll cook the crayfish for you."
"Really?"
The three little guys looked a bit disappointed but then perked up when they saw Shanuo nod. They cheered together.
"Great! Crayfish is my favorite!"
"And it's made by Brother Shanuo. With his cooking skills, it's sure to be delicious!"
"That's it!"
For a moment, even Roy, who usually clashed with Shanuo, became excited. Clearly, Shanuo's cooking skill was more persuasive than his fists.
After a while, the boys noticed the net was heavy with crayfish. Ignoring Shanuo's suggestions, they helped him carry it northeast, laughing.
There, on the outskirts of Orange Town, stood a modest cabin, far from the town's center. It was near a stream that flowed from Crescent Lake in the north.
This was Shanuo's home, where he had lived for three years.
…
The smoke from cooking rose into the air as the distant sounds of families calling their children to dinner echoed through the streets of Orange Town.
As the three little guys disappeared into the distance, Shanuo's smile faded. He turned his gaze to the setting sun, and after closing the door, he slowly turned around.
Inside the simple cabin, the only remarkable items were a bed, a worn set of furniture, and a one-meter-long stake standing in the corner of the room. Several wooden swords lay scattered around, their surfaces marked by countless sword strikes.
In the dimming light of sunset, the sword marks seemed to glow faintly, a testament to three years of sweat and practice.
Shanuo stood silently in front of the familiar stake, breathing steadily. Suddenly, he took a deep breath, tossed the crayfish against the wall, and walked toward the stake.
Calm and deliberate, he grabbed one of the wooden swords from the corner, held it firmly in his right hand, and raised it forward.
"Whoosh!"
With a sharp breath, Shanuo shouted, and his wrist flicked. The wooden sword slashed through the air, as fast as the wind, landing a fierce strike on the stake.
Crack!
A sharp sound rang out as a deep cut appeared in the stake from the blow.
Shanuo's face remained unchanged as he pulled back the wooden sword, his expression serious. He swung the sword again, moving with precision and intensity!
Chop, chop, pick, stab, cut, swipe, wipe!
Each strike came rapidly, one after another, without end. Shanuo's body moved like a beast in motion, and the sword in his hand swung with the ferocity of the wind. The air around him seemed to ripple with his fierce momentum, and he looked like a completely different person compared to when Anderson and the others had been here earlier.
The sword wind whipped through the air, and sweat poured down like rain, while time seemed to slow as he continued his movements.
The sun sank below the horizon, casting the room in increasingly dim light until it finally went completely dark.
Only then did Shanuo stop, lowering the wooden sword and sitting cross-legged on the ground. His breath had slowed, but beads of sweat still dripped from his temples, and he looked fatigued.
After half an hour of rest, Shanuo's body gradually recovered, and the soreness in his muscles began to fade.
At that moment, a soft sound echoed in his mind:
"Complete the daily basic swordsmanship practice tasks. Proficiency +1."
"You're here again…"
Shanuo stood up silently, his mind focusing. An attribute panel, glowing faintly with blue light, appeared before his eyes.
"Well, this is really… the only Chinese character that can be seen in this world…"
As he stared at the familiar words on the attribute panel, Shanuo's eyes grew complicated. He exhaled deeply, muttering to himself.
