The next day.
[Magnolia Port]
The Western Continent and Ishgar were separated by a vast ocean, so sea travel was the only option to reach the west. Of course, Ian could have simply teleported there, but where was the fun in that?
Ships bound for the Western Continent were rare, as the journey was long and arduous. Most were massive cargo ships. As they approached the shores of the Western Continent, the guards stationed there moved to intercept them.
"Who's there?!"
Ian ignored the soldiers, instead taking in the sights of the Western Continent with an air of calm detachment. It was more prosperous, more… grand than the Kingdom of Fiore. This was the empire that Zeref had built… the Alvarez Empire.
Ian's gaze turned distant. 'I heard he even gave himself the title of Emperor Spriggan.'
At this time, Zeref was still searching for a way to obtain Fairy Heart, driven by a desire to understand the meaning of his own existence over these past four hundred years. Fairy Heart was a secret, grand magic that surpassed even the three great Fairy Magics.
The environment of the Western Continent was vastly different from that of Ishgar. Ishgar was divided into many kingdoms, each with its own magic guilds, all loosely governed by the Magic Council. It was a fragmented and disorganized system.
But the Western Continent, under Zeref's rule, was a unified empire. There were no independent magic guilds.
"You're not from Alvarez. You're from Ishgar, aren't you? Are you here to steal from us?" The imperial soldiers quickly assessed Ian's origins and purpose, their gazes serious.
They suspected that the magic guilds of Ishgar were plotting against the Alvarez Empire. If their suspicions were confirmed, it could lead to open conflict between the two continents.
Ian looked like a mage, or at the very least, someone who did not belong to Alvarez. Just as Ian was about to break through the soldiers' blockade, a voice called out.
"Well, well, who do we have here sneaking into the Empire? If it isn't a comrade. Are you a demon created by His Majesty, or perhaps a mage who has obtained demonic power? Have you come to rejoin the Empire?"
A beautiful woman with short, golden hair appeared silently before Ian, blocking his path. She radiated an oppressive aura of magical power.
The imperial soldiers and mages were startled by her sudden appearance. They immediately knelt, bowing their heads in reverence.
"Lady… Lady Dimaria!"
...
...
'This person is strong... His strength is no less than Larcade's…'
Dimaria grew wary.
It would be best to keep her distance. She would subdue him and hand him over to General Invel for interrogation. Even if he was a demon created by the Emperor, his abilities needed to be assessed. He couldn't be allowed to roam free.
"Age Seal…"
This was a spell that could inflict all the pain a person had ever experienced in their life upon them simultaneously.
However, it had no effect on Ian. Naturally, there was no pain to inflict. Dimaria was shocked.
She stammered, "How… how is my magic not working?"
Dimaria was stunned. Her magic was useless against Ian. This meant he was on par with the Spriggan 12. With her power to stop time, she could usually end battles in an instant. But this was boring. She preferred to watch the panicked expressions of her opponents.
She would freeze time, shred their clothes with her sword, then release the time stop, watching their expressions as they suddenly found themselves naked.
However, Dimaria, still unwilling to give up, tried to counterattack. But Ian didn't give her a chance. Something Strange happened.
She felt her movements slowing down, inexplicably, while her thoughts remained clear.
"My movements are slowing… What's going on…?"
Dimaria was initially confused, but then her eyes widened in shock.
"No, it's not that my movements are slow… This is…"
As a user of time-stop magic, she was intimately familiar with this sensation. This was clearly time stop.
But that was impossible!
She should have been able to move freely in stopped time. How could she be frozen as well? It was as if someone had anticipated her thoughts, as Ian's voice reached her ears.
"Nothing is impossible. You stopped the world's time, and I stopped yours." Ian, appeared silently before Dimaria.
He looked at her calmly.
"How… how can you stop my time…?" Dimaria's consciousness was still active, a result of Ian intentionally allowing it. In truth, he hadn't used time stop, but rather time deceleration, slowing her time to a crawl.
At this moment, Dimaria felt a sense of crisis. Her time-stop wasn't absolute. Against opponents of similar level, she often couldn't completely freeze their time..
But to be frozen herself within stopped time… this was unprecedented. She desperately tried to break free, but it was futile.
"Damn it…"
"Take Over… God Soul: Chronos!"
Realizing she couldn't escape the time stop, Dimaria unleashed her ultimate technique: Take Over. She absorbed a portion of the soul of Chronos, the God of Time.
BOOM!!
A vast and terrifying pressure erupted from her. The partial soul and authority of Chronos, the God of Time, had descended. It was similar to Im's space-time form, with its black, star-studded appearance.
"An incomplete form of Chronos?"
"No, it's merely a fragment of his power, left behind in this world.." Ian mused, observing Dimaria's ultimate technique.
Chronos, like Ankhseram, was a true god, a being who embodied a fundamental law of the universe. He was devoid of human emotions, intervening only when his domain was threatened, such as when Zeref and Mavis had been cursed by Ankhseram for tampering with the laws of life and death.
Normally, gods didn't interfere with the mortal realm. They were merely embodiments of rules, lacking even their own emotions. But this Chronos was a little different.
Dimaria's Take-Over was a clear violation of Chronos's authority, yet he hadn't intervened.
If Ian's Guess was correct, this magic had somehow exploited a loophole in Chronos's rules. It borrowed his power without incurring his wrath.
The world was created by life, and life was imperfect. There were always loopholes.
However, even with this immense power, Dimaria was horrified to find that she still couldn't move. She was still trapped within the frozen time. Ian's time stop was absolute. She couldn't break free unless her power fundamentally surpassed Ian's.
She would need to possess power over all the laws of the universe, to become a creator god. But that was impossible for Dimaria.
And in truth, it wasn't true time stop, but rather a deceleration of time by tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of times.
If it were true time stop, Dimaria wouldn't even be able to think, let alone unleash her magic. She would be completely frozen. Dimaria was in disbelief.
"No… This is impossible…"
If it were merely a difference in power, she could understand. But this kind of incomprehensible control, which she couldn't break free from even with her full strength, was simply beyond her comprehension.
"I've heard that line too many times." Ian said calmly. He extended a finger and gently tapped Dimaria.
Shhh!
His finger, with that simple touch, pierced through her defenses as if it were piercing her very being, striking the core of her magic.
Crack!
The raging magical power within Dimaria instantly dissipated, like a punctured balloon, leaking away in an instant. Her magic had been sealed.
"My magic…"
"No… Don't…"
Dimaria watched in horror as her power was stripped away. For a powerful mage, especially one who stood at the pinnacle of the magical world, losing their magic was a fate worse than death. Without magic, she was nothing but an ordinary person.
"Don't worry." Ian chuckled, seeing her panicked expression. "I didn't destroy your Magic Core. You should recover in a few days. Consider this a punishment."
Thud!
Dimaria collapsed to the ground, her legs giving out.
Without her magic, she was weaker than an ordinary person. She couldn't even stand. She could only kneel on the ground, her body trembling as she stared at Ian in terror.
The time stop had not been lifted. Dimaria looked around, seeing the frozen forms of the imperial guards.
This was usually a familiar and comforting environment for her. But now, it filled her with dread and helplessness. She was completely powerless, trapped in this frozen world.
If Ian wanted to harm her, no one would know. No one could help her.
