One World Apart

Chapter 4: Adventure-Phase 1: Start[M]

I see the message pop-up, and stare at it for a couple of seconds.

...

Its fine if I call them back later, right?

I want to have some fun first!

I turn around towards Momo, pick her up, and carry her on my shoulder.

Now lets see, where do I want to go first?

Hmm....maybe a tavern?

Or maybe a-

<**** is calling>

I hang up again, but before I could even exit the menu,

<**** is calling>

...

Are you mad? Hahaha!

I chuckle to myself, but accepted the call after they called once more.

"WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?"

That sounds awfully familiar....

"[FMC]?! How did you even call me?"

"I clicked the call button."

"..."

"Where are you right now?"

"I'm at...a place"

...

"Screw you"

and she hangs up, not that it matters to me.

The time was getting late, and the sun was already halfway below the horizon. I decide to move towards an inn, and after walking for a bit, I arrived at the "Amberwood Inn". I walk in and meet a kind-looking lady, who asks in a cheerful tone,

"What business do you have here?"

"I have come for a place to rest."

"We have many rooms available, here, pick one"

I chose the room on the third floor facing the outskirts of town, and start walking upstairs, until...

"Um sir, you still have not paid yet"

Shoot, I have no money...

"Uh, the chieftain will take the bill, I believe"

"Oh, let me call him real quick."

Although the lady still held a light-hearted expression, I could tell by her tone that she was getting irritated.

"Hi, yes-chief. There is a young boy here who said that you would pay the bill, is this true?"

"Ah yes the silver-haired boy? I do not recall saying such words, but, out of kindness, I will pay just this one time."

After that, the innkeeper looks content, and turns to me, giving me a key, which presumably will open the room I have chosen.

Awkwardly leaving, I could still her feel gaze on me, but I ignored it and walked up the stairs to the third floor. I open the door to my room and see a king-sized bed with a thick, quilted duvet and plush, overstuffed pillows sits at the center, framed by a headboard of weathered oak. Momo was already asleep on my shoulder, I gently bring her down and put her on a simple writing desk, snuggled against the corner. I lay on my new bed for a couple of minutes, and fall asleep.

---------------------------------------------------------------

The next morning I wake up to roosters crowing. I open the crimson blinds and look out the window, the sun shines brightly, and I sit on the ledge, absorbing the wonderful view. As I was still enjoying my time basking in the sun, I suddenly get a call.

<[FMC] is calling>

I answer the call this time, and was met with a

"Are you going to answer me seriously now?"

Wow, no greeting at all?

"Fine, fine, but I truly don't know where I am."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes I am very sure, but it seems like I have landed in a game world."

"A game-world huh....what have you done so far?"

"Oh yes! I want to introduce you to Momo-Momo come here!"

Momo yawns, looks at me, and then falls back asleep.

"She seems to be tired right now, but she's a really cute flying squirrel! and my guide or something...but it doesn't really matter."

"Your guide? There must be something for you to do then. Call me later when you figure some things. I have to clean up some things here, because you're causing so much trouble."

She muttered the last sentence under her breath, and I pretended to not hear.

She hangs up, and I decide to read through everything in my menu.

It turns out that this world is separated into different territories, with each territory being occupied by a 'Ruling Species'. Information on the species is unknown, as nobody dared to walk into the cloudy mist. There were also these 7 items called "Proofs of Victory". I saw 8 other territories from the sky when I was falling, so I conclude that each Proof of Victory must be from one of the 7 different sections. The final section was perhaps a bonus or final stage? It also said that I would have an 'important companion' accompanying me. I didn't think much of it and continued to read through the menu.

I read until I see a page where it showed the 7 different sections. On the top of the screen it said

I click a random area and new words popped up:

[9]

[8]

Teleportation? Land of Pride?

[7]

[6]

I finally see the countdown.

[5]

Shoot!

[4]

I have no idea what these mean, but I quickly grab Momo and run out of the inn.

I rush to find the Chieftain and arrive at the front of his home. I jump towards the handle and try to knock on the door, but it was too late.

------------------------------------------------------------

I find myself in a dark forest, with little sunlight penetrating the tall pine trees. The forest stretches endlessly, a sea of towering evergreens blanketed in a soft layer of snow, their dark green boughs weighed down by the frosty powder. In the distance, massive snowy mountains can be seen, their jagged peaks rise high into the sky, crowned with a thick coat of ice and snow that gleams brilliantly under the sun. There are shadows moving back and forth across the mountains, the black blotches visible due to the contrasting mountains.

Right after this notification pops up, I get a call. As expected, it was from [FMC]

"I just got a notification that 'Your adventure has begun', wanna explain?"

"Ah yep, that's my bad. I didn't think it was going to instastart, but why would you get the notification as well?"

I sudden realization hit me. I look back at the menu, and remember that there was something called an 'Important Companion'. Could it be...

"Hey [FMC], does your menu say that you will have an 'Important Companion'?"

"Not exactly...but it does say that I would be 'of great help' to somebody..."

"HAHA! It seems that we are connected across worlds, and you're gonna be stuck with me for a long time!"
