Online Game: Lord Of The Wheel Of Destiny

Chapter 53: Chapter 53: The Offer

Nearly a hundred spectators stood in stunned silence.

The elite Falcon Squad of the Black Tortoise Guild, four individuals—all turned to ash in mere moments.

The one who defeated them was none other than Jiang Kai, who had just completed the rookie trial ten days ago.

Even as they died, the Falcon Squad likely couldn't figure out why Jiang Kai, rumored to excel in melee combat by the captain of the Sky Sword Squad, had managed to wipe them out without even engaging them up close.

Everything had happened too quickly. One second, everyone believed Jiang Kai was doomed. The next, the tables were turned entirely.

On the ground, the vegetation was charred. Only four piles of scorched bones remained, and the air carried a faint scent of roasted meat.

For four to five seconds, not a single sound was made. The silence felt eerie.

Finally, Jiang Kai spoke.

"Not bad. Each person gives me 10,000 experience points—enough to level up?"

Pfft… Shan Shan almost coughed up blood.

This guy hadn't spoken because he was busy absorbing experience points?

Each person lost 10,000 experience points to him, with a penalty doubling the loss. That meant each of the squad members had been drained of 20,000 points.

"Sigh, killed someone again." Jiang Kai let out a sigh, his brow furrowed slightly.

His original purpose in joining Destiny's Calling was to make money. Yet in ten days, he'd killed five people—averaging one kill every two days. At this rate, he wondered if the military might label him a wanted criminal.

Pulling his thoughts back, Jiang Kai's gaze landed on the Falcon Squad's sole survivor—Xu Xiaoxiao.

Xu Xiaoxiao was staring at the remains of her teammates in shock.

She was a healer, not a deity. The instant her comrades were consumed by flames, there was nothing she could do. The sense of helplessness overwhelmed her.

"Captain... Brother Yong... Everyone... it's my fault..." Xu Xiaoxiao murmured, collapsing to the ground in grief, tears streaming down her face.

Just then, she noticed Jiang Kai walking toward her step by step.

Suddenly, as if from nowhere, she summoned the courage to shout at Jiang Kai: "What? You're going to kill me too? Go ahead then. I'm not afraid of you. If you want to kill me, do it. Xu Xiaoxiao will never bow to you!"

Her words made the onlookers see her in a different light.

Jiang Kai stopped in front of Xu Xiaoxiao and smiled faintly. "Miss, do you have things a bit mixed up? You were the ones trying to kill me, yet somehow, I've become the villain here?"

Xu Xiaoxiao was momentarily stunned.

She realized she had indeed gotten things backward.

"You—"

Jiang Kai looked at her calmly. "But you do remind me of a friend I once had—a healer, just like you, with a brave heart. Since you didn't join in the fight, I'll let you go."

"I don't need your pity!" Xu Xiaoxiao shouted tearfully, her voice resolute.

Jiang Kai shook his head with a chuckle, then turned to leave. "You talk like I'm some kind of villain. Miss, if you want to hate someone, hate Huang Da. He's the one who ordered you to kill me."

"Did you expect me to just stand here and let you succeed?"

"Next time you see Huang Da, tell him that Jiang Kai remembers this debt."

With that, Jiang Kai walked toward the safe zone, leaving behind a crowd of slack-jawed spectators.

It was a long while before people finally snapped out of their shock.

"My god… I can't wrap my head around this. It's just incomprehensible."

"Don't ask me. I don't get it either." someone beside him quickly replied. "All I know is that guy just obliterated the Black Tortoise Guild's Falcon Squad. That's it."

This sentiment echoed through the crowd.

Why had the initial attacks been ineffective?

Why had four top-tier, first-rank experts been wiped out in a single move?

How could someone who had just passed the rookie trial possess such terrifying combat strength?

Too many questions. No answers. The only certainty was the result.

———

Jiang Kai felt irritated. Black Tortoise had actually sent people to hunt him down and intended to kill him to the point where he couldn't even log in.

If not for acquiring the gloves that gave him AoE capabilities, the odds in a one-against-many fight might not have been in his favor.

Had he been defeated, his Double Penalty talent would have inflicted massive losses, leaving him with no chance for a comeback.

"Huang Da, you tried to kill me in the real world, and now you want to kill me in Destiny's Calling. Fine. I wasn't planning to go to war with you, but since Black Tortoise keeps pushing, don't blame me for what happens next." Jiang Kai muttered fiercely.

Exhaling a long breath, Jiang Kai calmed himself. For now, he needed to focus on the spoils of this hunt.

At Supply Station 27, Jiang Kai approached the trading window.

"Hello." The clerk greeted him with a sweet smile, dimples showing. Her charming appearance momentarily lightened Jiang Kai's mood.

"Hi, beautiful. I've got some items to sell."

"Sure thing." The clerk's smile widened.

Jiang Kai placed 264 corpse cards on the counter.

Two stacks of cards were placed neatly on the desk, each about ten centimeters thick.

"That's a lot! How long has your team been saving these up?"

"Not long. Just give me a price."

The clerk nodded, pulling out a pale yellow wooden box. The box's interior was perfectly sized to fit the cards. She combined the two stacks into one and placed them inside.

Soon, text appeared on the box:

[Level 10 Giant Black Ape Corpse Card × 5, Level 11 Giant Black Ape Corpse Card × 8, Level 12... Total: 107 cards. Offer: 7,280 star coins.]

[Level 17 Charred Black Ape Corpse Card × 7, Level 18 Charred Black Ape Corpse Card × 11, Level 19... Total: 157 cards. Offer: 2,040 star coins.]

The clerk blinked in surprise and muttered, "Selling corpse cards can fetch nearly 10,000 star coins? That's insane."

"But why are so many charred?"

She looked up at Jiang Kai. "If you sell them to us, you'll receive a detailed breakdown of the prices for each level of corpse card."

"Our military-run store is transparent with pricing. You can trust us on that."

Jiang Kai thought for a moment and asked, "How do your prices compare to the main city's?"

"Well, if you sell to private buyers, they might offer up to 10% more. But they probably won't take charred cards. If you sell to merchants or guilds, the prices are about the same as ours."

"Oh, and private buyers generally can't handle such a large batch at once. If you want to sell everything quickly, it might take time to find buyers."

Jiang Kai nodded. The clerk made a fair point.

Military stores had a reputation for fairness. Jiang Kai decided to evaluate the value of his other items before committing.

"I've also got some ores. Could you appraise those for me?"

"Ores?" The clerk's interest visibly piqued. "Sure!"

"There are quite a few. It's inconvenient to take them out here."

"A lot?"

"Yes. Nineteen elite treasure chests in total. I left them unopened to save space."

"Nineteen elite treasure chests?" The clerk's voice shot up before she quickly composed herself. "Sorry about that. Which squad are you from?"

Jiang Kai didn't answer.

Realizing she'd overstepped, the clerk motioned to two guards. "Could you escort him inside?"

The guards exchanged glances, then led Jiang Kai through the back entrance of the supply station.

The station wasn't large, divided into three areas: a trading window, a supply counter, and a central warehouse stocked with goods.

The guards brought Jiang Kai to a small room in the trading area.

The clerk closed the trading window and appeared ready to assist him personally.

Jiang Kai retrieved the treasure chest cards and began unloading their contents.

Nineteen chests soon yielded a mountain of ores and gems, covering the floor in a dazzling array of colors.

After finishing, Jiang Kai looked at the clerk. "All right, beautiful. What's the value?"

The clerk remained silent.

"Miss?" Jiang Kai called out.

She snapped out of her daze, quickly apologizing and began scanning the minerals with her device.

"The mineral deposits in King's Valley are divided into three grades: common, refined, and superior. Most of these are refined, with some superior-quality stones mixed in. Rest assured, we'll offer a price that satisfies you."

Jiang Kai frowned slightly. Her eagerness to close the deal suggested these materials might be quite valuable.

Could he have stumbled upon something particularly lucrative?
