Otaku Witch

Chapter 59: 53. Popular Major

"Name?"

Witches always had a strong sense of time, so the candidates didn't have to wait too long. When the scheduled recruitment time arrived, the staff at the enrollment office were all in place and began receiving the candidates.

Dorothy queued up among the crowd, slowly moving forward and soon it was her turn.

The enrollment officer receiving her was a round-faced witch with glasses, who looked quiet and cute. She glanced at Dorothy's overly unrestrained Gothic makeup with a hint of a teacher's aversion to a badly dressed student, but ultimately she remained professional and said nothing more, simply proceeding with the process.

"Dorothy."

Dorothy gave her name.

"Age?"

"16"

"Major applied for?"

"Automated Mechanical Civil Engineering."

"Huh?"

The officer looked up in astonishment, her expression turning odd as she glanced at Dorothy.

"Are you sure?"

She asked for confirmation once again.

"Yes, I'm certain."

Dorothy nodded affirmatively.

So the officer didn't say anything more; the self-regulating recording quill beside her swiftly completed a document, and finally the officer stamped it and handed the application document to Dorothy.

"Follow this guide map, your examination venue is already marked. It's a bit out of the way. Can you find it?"

The officer asked, pointing to a map on the back of the document.

"Yes, I can manage, thank you."

Dorothy nodded, thanked her, took the document, and then left.

As one of the Top Ten Famous Schools, Brust Academy had an extensive campus, being one of the largest among the Witch Academy's several floating islands, with an area of about 1,000 hectares or 15,000 acres. This was just the external area, not including the various spatial extensions inside the school.

"It's so big; it's like the size of Tsinghua and Peking University combined from my previous life. Truly befitting a school from the magical world," Dorothy mused to herself.

In her past life, she was a poor student at a small college with a campus so tiny that a short walk would take you from one end to the other. She envied the grand campuses of prestigious schools, longing to experience having to take the bus from the dorm to the lecture buildings.

However, in this life, she had the chance to make up for the regrets of her past. Although there were no buses in this magical school, she could 'drive' herself there by flying.

Alright, the truth is that the campus had those convenient, quick small portals that provided direct access to various parts of the campus, but Dorothy graciously declined that option. She preferred to fly slowly on her own, anyway—it would only be a few minutes slower, and she had plenty of time.

Dorothy took out her newly-purchased broom from her magic bag. Now that she had her flying license, she could freely fly within the academy.

With the obedient posture of a good child, Dorothy mounted the broom, her plump and slender legs clamped tight, and then took off with a woohoo from where she stood.

Only after taking off and relaxing did she finally let go of the broomstick with both hands to check the map behind the document.

This was a magic map, using a live point technique that allowed for precise location tracking, which seemed very convenient, just like the navigation systems from her past life.

The map clearly marked all the roads and buildings and had two marked points: the distant fixed point was the destination, and the fast-moving point was Dorothy's current location.

And from the map, it appeared that the automated mechanical civil engineering major Dorothy had applied for was indeed a niche field, located in a particularly remote corner to the southeast of the school, looking very much neglected.

But this suited her just fine. As a gaming addict, Dorothy preferred having fewer people around, liking quieter places. She had heard that this major had always only a couple of cats, so to speak, which was just fantastic. Maybe this year, she'd be the only student to apply, wouldn't that be awesome?

The thought of no one disturbing her studies, the absence of troublesome interpersonal relations with classmates, and having all the professors in the major cater to her, being able to ask any question and get answers from a host of experts, finally resolved the longstanding issues of low self-study efficiency and slow speed. Dorothy's mood instantly lifted.

This was the school life she wanted. A student's duty is to study, and she must study hard and make progress every day. She aimed to extract every bit of knowledge from the professors before graduating.

...The little witch mused while flying...

However...

Ten minutes later, when Dorothy finally found the inconspicuous little house that was rigorously hidden among tall buildings, as indicated on the map, she began to doubt whether she had come to the wrong place upon seeing the yard crowded with people.

She took a few steps back and saw that the tiny gate had "Automated Mechanical Civil Engineering Major" written on it, indeed.

But something was off. What happened to the niche major that no one chose? The popularity here seemed anything but niche.

Dorothy was bewildered, and as she mustered the courage to walk into the yard, she suddenly had an epiphany.

"Damn, why am I running into that pesky Little Fairy again?"

Seeing the Succubus Witch in the center of the yard, whose every move and word radiated charm and natural seductiveness, Dorothy felt utterly drained.

Really, miss? With talent like yours, you should be studying Illusion Technique in the Spirit System rather than slumming it here.

What happened to the major that no self-respecting 'dog of the earth' would touch?

And looking at the others who were ostensibly perusing their application paperwork while actually sneaking glances at the pretty miss from the corners of their eyes, Dorothy felt a chill.

You guys, what's the deal with your major selection? This is a serious life decision. Can't you have a bit of independence? How can you just follow the pretty miss because she's attractive? This is way too capricious. What do you think this school is?

But upon scanning the crowd, Dorothy was speechless.

Forget it, most of these people's Magic Power was comparable to hers, just barely meeting the 10,000 Mana threshold. With such levels, they're generally not admitted into top schools. These rascals are just here for a day tour of a famous school, trying their luck out of curiosity.

No wonder they seemed so casual about choosing a major; they knew they wouldn't be admitted, so they just came to sneak extra glances at a beauty.

On the other hand, that pretty mixed-race miss looked like a fairy, and her Qi was very strong, Dorothy even felt it was no less than Sophia's.

Forget it, not only is she beautiful, but her talent is also so monstrous. She's definitely a real Monster, but big shot, why on earth would you want to slum it with a talent like that? Isn't that beneath you? Experience exclusive tales on empire

At that moment, Dorothy suddenly understood how her mother Euphilia felt when faced with her ungrateful self.

This was truly the frustration of the towering expectations not met.

With talent like that, instead of expanding territory for the Witch World on the battlefield, or even becoming a high-ranked government official or a scandal-causing Demon Consort during troubled times, you're here learning to grout?

Tsk, with such a Monster of a classmate, my days ahead are going to be rough.
