Otherworldly Skeleton Evolution

Chapter 5 - This Skeleton Must Have Gained Sentience

“What in the world is this? Why do I feel like this Skeleton is even more formidable than me?”

Zhang Mengmeng watched in astonishment as Jiang Cheng effortlessly dispatched eight Skeleton Wolves in the blink of an eye, leaving her dumbfounded.

She stood there, mouth agape, as Jiang Cheng continued on his path, effortlessly slicing through the next batch of Skeleton Wolves. Zhang Mengmeng hadn’t fully recovered from the spectacle she had just witnessed.

Observing Jiang Cheng effortlessly carving through the horde of Skeletons, with experience points notifications constantly popping up, Zhang Mengmeng’s eyes sparkled with excitement that didn’t wane.

“The next evolution requires 1000 evolution points. Just killing Skeleton Wolves will probably take a long time.”

Glancing around and noticing other players gradually appearing in the vicinity, Jiang Cheng made a decision. He decided to venture into the level five Skeleton Bear territory.

Given that players are struggling to find monsters in the Level 1 zones, they’re bound to try their luck here, much like an adorable novice.

He anticipated that it wouldn’t be long before the area was swamped with players. With a crowd comes chaos.

His secret couldn’t be exposed too soon.

Human nature is unpredictable. Who knows what these players might do upon noticing his uniqueness?

Robbery? A mob attack? Or even kill him?

All were possibilities.

Though his strength far surpassed that of the players, they weren’t mere monsters. Seeing his high attack power, they wouldn’t just stand there waiting to be hit.

Given his current speed, the most likely scenario would be players kiting him.

If surrounded, his lack of speed would make counterattack difficult.

Plus, players could respawn infinitely. Attracting the attention of a major guild could jeopardize his safety.

Moreover, the experience and Evolution Points from Skeleton Wolves were diminishing, now only worth 8 points, due to his increasing level.

Thus, heading to the Level 5 territory was the best choice.

“Hey, where are you going? This place is great! Why are you leaving?”

Zhang Mengmeng, still reveling in her newfound excitement, snapped back to reality only to find Jiang Cheng already gone.

“My god, he’s heading to the Skeleton Bear area?”

“Dude, aren’t you getting a bit too cocky?”

“Are you the player, or am I?”

“Why do I feel like I’m the one who’s been summoned as a skeleton?”

Zhang Mengmeng, questioning her existence, couldn’t be bothered with her newly summoned skeleton.

She followed Jiang Cheng towards the Level 5 Skeleton Bear area, Fierce Bear Mountain, filled with curiosity.

Watching Jiang Cheng effortlessly dispatch Skeleton Wolves, Zhang Mengmeng admired his skill but couldn’t shake her worry.

This Skeleton is getting too cocky. Just as he finished off the Skeleton Wolves, he’s off to challenge Skeleton Bears?

Why not take it slow and steady? Why risk it all?

“I’m sorry for thinking you were afraid of dying. Can’t we just play it safe?”

“Brother, let’s talk this over, please.”

Zhang Mengmeng followed Jiang Cheng, her fists clenched in a pleading gesture, but he paid her no heed.

“Roar!”

A bear’s roar echoed through the air as a Skeleton Bear noticed them.

[Skeleton Bear]

Level: 5

Attack: 15–30

Defense: 5

HP: 100

Skill: Roar

Overview: A wild bear from Fierce Bear Mountain, now a Skeleton. Strong and powerful, with high attack but slow speed.

“Oh no, how do we deal with this? Skeleton Bears have such high attack and 100 HP. What do we do?”

Zhang Mengmeng hurriedly summoned ten undead skeletons to face it, but they were scattered with just a few blows.

Yet, Jiang Cheng seemed unbothered, carefully examining his status panel.

“Evolve Swift Slash skill!”

[Congratulations! You have spent 100 Evolution Points to upgrade Swift Slash skill to level two.]

Just now, he discovered that Evolution Points could also be used to evolve skills!

[Skill: Swift Slash (Level 2)]

[Attack speed increased by sixty percent, duration 10 minutes, consumes 10 mana points.]

“Great! From thirty percent to sixty percent!”

“Evolve again!”

[Congratulations! You have spent 200 Evolution Points to evolve Swift Slash skill to level three.]

At Level 3, Swift Slash retained its previous effects, but attack speed increased to 90%!

With all his earned Evolution Points spent, Jiang Cheng felt satisfied with the outcome.

He wondered how much his attack speed would improve.

Muttering a silent prayer, he activated the skill.

Instantly, his attack speed reached 1.58 seconds per strike.

Much faster.

Jiang Cheng confidently approached the Skeleton Bear.

“Roar!”

The Skeleton Bear roared, seemingly warning him.

“You have been affected by Skeleton Bear’s Roar, reducing your attack by 10%.”

“Roar has this effect?” Jiang Cheng’s mind raced as he slightly increased his speed.

In the next moment!

As the Skeleton Bear swung its paw towards him, Jiang Cheng dodged, landing a precise strike on its leg joint!

“Crack!”

“-39.”

Not much damage, but he had dislodged the leg, causing the Skeleton Bear to stumble and fall to the right.

Seizing the opportunity, Jiang Cheng raised his blade and slashed its neck, cleanly beheading the Skeleton Bear!

Critical hit!

“-78!”

[Congratulations! You have gained 30 experience points and 30 Evolution Points.]

With the Swift Slash skill, his speed had a significant impact. He managed to defeat the Skeleton Bear effortlessly, taking no damage.

The Great Wasteland, a game of unparalleled realism, allowed for any maneuver, not just fixed actions.

The players could opt for set moves or leverage their skills to recreate real-life maneuvers.

As a former top-tier player, Jiang Cheng possessed the skills and awareness necessary for such tactics.

Skeleton Bears were slow, even slower than Skeleton Wolves, and were solitary creatures. With the speed of Swift Slash at Level 3, he could lure them out one by one, using precise strikes to defeat them without taking any damage.

Moreover, Skeleton Bears yielded 30 Evolution Points and experience, facilitating rapid leveling up.

Next, Jiang Cheng began a textbook demonstration of lure tactics and monster-slaying techniques, thoroughly enjoying his spree.

Zhang Mengmeng watched, dumbfounded.

“This Skeleton, his lure tactics, his swordsmanship, his speed… I’m light-years behind.”

“Damn it, this Skeleton must have gained sentience!”
