Chapter 11: Time
Six years have passed since the peaceful days in Virella Village began, bringing unseen changes to the surface, yet felt in every step of those who grew there. The village remained a tranquil place, as if time itself was reluctant to leave its mark. In the mornings, dew still covered the vast green fields, and the sound of the river's trickle to the west of the village remained the eternal melody that accompanied its residents.
Vin, once an eleven-year-old boy, now stood as a tough seventeen-year-old teenager. His once small and fragile body had transformed, muscles beginning to form from the intense training he endured under Ryan's guidance. Yet, his sharp gaze still held the scars of a past that never truly healed, despite the passing of time.
His days in the village followed an almost monotonous routine. When the sun rose over the mountains, Vin was usually already in the fields with Lisa and Diana, helping harvest crops or carry goods to the small market at the edge of the village. Though the work seemed simple, Vin always did it with full dedication. There was a sense of responsibility in him, a belief that he had to protect those he cared for, no matter what.
But outside of the daily tasks, Vin spent most of his time practicing swordsmanship with Ryan. On an open field by the forest, he honed every movement diligently. His sword swings were now faster, stronger, and more precise than years before. Ryan often praised him, though he knew that the praise was just a small part of a much greater lesson.
Renz, his childhood friend, also grew in a striking way. His body had now become large and strong, characteristic of a tanker who could withstand enemy attacks without flinching. Though his movements remained slow, often the subject of Vin's teasing, Renz's resilience made him the perfect sparring partner. They often spent time together at night, sitting by the river while talking about their dreams, even though both young men knew their life in the village might not change much.
Yet, for Vin, his thoughts often drifted far away to the grand city of Devoria, where the Dilveria Academy stood tall. The academy had existed long before he was born, known as a training ground for young adventurers and warriors who sought to make their mark in the world. Under the sunlight, the academy's high towers looked like an unreachable dream from a small village like Virella.
Vin remembered, when he was still young, Ryan had once spoken of the academy.
Ryan's voice:
"Dilveria is where dreams come true, but it's not a place for the weak or the fearful. Only those with true determination can survive there."
Lisa and Diana, though they remained in the village, also grew into inspiring figures. Lisa, with her gentle nature, always reminded Vin that there was beauty in the little things. She often made herbal remedies to help the sick villagers, and though she rarely showed her strength directly, Vin knew that Lisa held great potential. Diana, on the other hand, was the opposite of Lisa. Full of energy and enthusiasm, she was often the first to encourage Vin whenever he doubted himself.
Six years wasn't a short time, but it also wasn't enough to forget the pain of loss or the dreams that had been postponed. Vin often found himself reflecting late at night, staring at the stars scattered across the sky. He knew that his life in Virella was just the beginning of something bigger. A restlessness lingered within him, a sense that he was destined for more than just being a farmer or a village protector.
Ryan, now beginning to age, also seemed to notice Vin's growth. He knew his time in Virella was growing short, though he also felt reluctant to leave the village that had been his home for so many years.
That night, Vin decided something he had long postponed, he would go to the Dilveria Academy. Though he didn't know what he would encounter there, he knew that the journey was part of his destiny. Virella, with all its tranquility, would always be home to him, but he also knew he could not stay there forever.
Time passed without compromise, and Vin now stood at the threshold of a new life. With his sword in hand and hope in his heart, he knew his journey had only just begun.
