Chapter 3: Chapter 3: A New World
Well, first things first. I need to gauge out where the sun is, and what time it shows. I looked up into the sky to see it around the position for noon. A little before, though. I'd say it's around 11:15am, no?
<
I was close enough to the answer. And, the terrain of this forest is a bit much. Hills and mountains surround me, but the mountains are hundreds of metres away. Well, maybe thousands of metres away. Welp, time to get to it!
-[Around 20 Minutes of Hiking Later]-
I've been walking for around 20 minutes now. I've gone over some small hills and a few minor depressions, but that's pretty much it.
I've walked about a mile of this terrain. It's quite annoying to traverse over. The amount of bullshit in the way is crazy. Fallen trees, massive boulders, and a lot of fucking thorn bushes.
But, what makes up for it is the beautiful scenery. The creatures of the land really make up for it! The sun breaking through the parts of leaves of which have been shifting due to the light breeze. The light of which shines upon my face and unto the ground in a dazzling array of colours…
Well, those "colours" are just different versions of the light to shade ratio. I was just getting in the moment with that dramatic explanation.
I jumped over a fallen log and found out that my new body is quite light and nimble. I bet I could run quite fast if I needed to.
*rustling*
I heard leaves crunching and the bushes shuffling about due to… something. I drew my blade and prepared myself to fight all though I have pretty much no knowledge on how to use a sword.
I moved slowly, and quietly, whilst crouched down to where the rustling occurred. I peered through the bushes to see one of the most common isekai monsters; a goblin.
I then had a thought. Hey, Kitsu?
<
Are goblins of the lowest rank, whatever that may be? I presume "F".
<
[Highest - S+, Higher - S, High - A, Stronger - B, Average - C, Below Average - D, Low Tier - E, Bottom of the barrel - F. Each rank, when affiliated with the Adventurer's Guild, provides benefits in rewards and higher ranked quests unlocking their availability. The ranks also refer to how strong a monster is, similar to the Adventurer's Guild premises.]
Okay. That seems like the typical isekai story load-out. I sheathed my blade and quietly climbed a nearby tree.
I watched as the goblin below scuffled about, skinning what seemed to be a small rabbit that had been caught. I shimmied to the edge of a large branch and prepared to surprise attack the goblin.
I leaped and landed on its head, rendering it unconscious. And so, to fulfill one of my bucket list items, which I just randomly thought of, it's time to study the anatomy of a goblin!
-[About 30 minutes later]-
<
I have studied as much as I could of it whilst it is unconscious. It's body is kind of similar to a humans, but it's smaller and has green-ish skin. Like how you would depict them in all most every fantasy story.
This one seems to be male. So, yes I did check "that". It's important when doing this, all though it was quite embarrassing for me to do so. I still get flustered when seeing those types of things, both ways.
"Argugh?"
The goblin started to awaken. It was tied up with some vines I found nearby, and I drew my blade. I swiftly put an end to its life, with a shitty slash to its head. Like I said, I have no idea how to properly use a sword.
I sheathed my blade and a notification popped up.
<
Oh? I could feel myself change slightly, only mentally. It feels like I have been training with a katana for about a week or two.
It will help me fight better, so I better try to level this skill up as much as I can! Now I have a motivation to fight the monsters I see!
<
Could you tone it down with the level up notifications, please?
<
Okay. It got sort of annoying with those notifications popping up. So, now Kitsu will only show the important ones! Isn't that right, Kitsu?
<
All right. Can I harvest anything worth something from this goblin corpse?
<
Oh? Okay. I'll do just that.
I stored the rabbit carcass and it really did just disappear. I said out loud, "Wow…" It truly surprised me. And I still haven't gotten used to my voice now. I still am like 'That's me?' Haha.
I then walked over to the goblin corpse and cut of its ears with my sword. One of the ears was absolutely destroyed from me analysing it, so I only have 1 to collect.
<
Please don't do that every time I get an item.
<
Okay. Now, time to continue onwards to the exit of this damn forest. I should be really close to the tree-line!
-[8 Minutes Later]-
I just had to climb up a pretty steep hill, and now I'm practically exhausted. So, I think I'll take a quick break before heading out. The tree-line is only around 15 metres away.
Anyways, this new body is truly fit for climbing, running, and other sorts of physical activities. Now I could probably not have to worry about getting tired when doing those types of things. But, this is still a younger body, which means I will still get tired more often than when I was in my original body.
I think I will take another few minutes to just look around me and then I'll make my way out of here.
Now that I am just looking around, taking everything in, I can see things I didn't notice before. Ants, a singular butterfly, a sort of insect resembling a cicada. All of these look like my previous worlds', but they are different in a unique way.
I looked up into the clear sky and just lay in the sun. It's warm…
-[2 Hours Later]-
"... Huh?"
It seems I had fallen asleep whilst laying down in the sun. What time is it?
<
Huh. I still have some daylight left. So, I should move onwards!
I patted down my robe and my hair to get the dirt and dust out of them. My hair is sort of annoying, so I am going to try and find a hair tie, or make one if I can find a sturdy enough material. Welp, let's go.
