Chapter 5: chapter 5
Chapter 5 - Death
"What?" Suddenly, I was awakened from my sleep. Something was happening outside. With my senses, I guessed it was probably a fight. 'What the hell is going on at this hour? Even I, a creature of the night, am sleeping.' As I left my room, frustrated, I found my father and mother, who were on guard against any attack. We soon went outside and saw the guards holding an intruder in an eagle outfit. 'An eagle guard. What are they doing here?' I was quite alarmed. They are one of the elite units along with the jaguar guards.
"Chief, we captured two intruders who tried to enter, but we also lost many of our warriors," reported a slightly injured guard to my father.
"Who dares sneak into my tribe?" my father questioned, quite irritated.
"We don't know, chief. He isn't answering our questions. We might need to torture him," the guard replied. They soon began torturing the intruder, but got no results. No matter what method they used, he gave no answers.
"Father, may I take a look?" I asked curiously. He looked at me suspiciously, as it was quite unusual for a child to enter torture chambers. After a few seconds, he replied, "Go, but you can only stay for five minutes."
I entered the dark torture chambers. I was immediately attacked by a strong smell of blood, piss, shit, flesh. My head spun for a moment. I calmed myself and entered the room where the intruder was held. I looked into his eyes and said, "Why did you sneak into our tribe?" His eyes turned slightly red as he answered, dazed. I used hypnosis on him. It was inspired by DIO's power. I soon left the room satisfied and told my father the information.
Another tribe discovered my abnormality. These lunatics claim that the god Huitzilopochtli gave them the revelation to kill me for reasons unknown to me. 'What did you do to anger that god, Huitzilopochtli? I'm just living my life peacefully.' So, they sent some assassins to end me while I slept. Unfortunately for them, the assassins didn't even reach me and were discovered.
"Who dares to assassinate my son also in my tribe? I will personally lead some warriors to annihilate them. Prepare for war."
"Haha, war."
"Yes, we are going to war. We might get a new batch of sacrifices."
All the members around mocked joyfully at the prospect of going to war. Soon my father led some elite warriors and prepared for war. My mother was very worried about my father. She said she had a bad premonition and advised him not to go.
"Don't worry, Quetzal, I need to personally teach those bastards what will happen if they try to touch my children."
Well, I was quite touched, but still a bit doubtful about this whole war thing. Honestly, I'm quite angry about the assassination attempt.
Before departing, they sacrificed to Tezcatlipoca for victory and a safe return. In the morning, my father and 50 warriors, along with my teacher, left the tribe.
It's been a week since my father left with the warriors. We haven't received any information about them. Everyone in the tribe is quite worried, and my mother is keeping everyone under control. But I can tell she is very worried too.
Honestly, I don't have much hope. Either they are dead or captured by the enemy. Even my mother knows this, but she can't accept such a result.
Later that night, when everyone was asleep, I silently snuck out of my tribe. I wanted to check what happened to my father and the others.
I entered the forest and ran in the direction the intruder mentioned when asked about his origins. A normal human would take about 2 days to reach that place, but I can get there in about an hour or two.
I zipped through the forest, leaving nothing but a whirlwind and afterimages in my wake. The ground trembled slightly under my force.
In the distance, I saw a village about the same size as mine. There was a huge bonfire in the middle as people gathered around it.
A man wearing feathers on his head and clothes, dressed in priestly attire, held a knife to the neck of a stocky man. It was my father.
My eyes narrowed dangerously as I increased my speed, but the priest's knife was faster than me as it plunged into my father's throat.
His blood was collected in a special cup. All the people around started cheering and chanting reverently. My father was sacrificed.
I stood there, dumbfounded, unable to process what had happened. The man I called father died like that. I did nothing. I felt nothing.
I just felt empty. No sadness, guilt, anger, or hatred. I just stood there, motionless. Soon, I controlled my thoughts.
'Hehe, my father died right in front of me, but I feel nothing. Does that make me strong or just pathetic?'
Still, I felt obliged to avenge him as his son. So, after all the festivities ended, I snuck into the village. After some searching, I finally found the priest's house.
I entered his house while he was in his room, still awake. He held the cup that collected my father's blood and drank it in ecstasy. Even though it seems hypocritical, I was honestly disgusted by it.
I entered his room slowly and steadily while he noticed me. He had a look of panic and confusion in his eyes. Before he realized, he saw the world upside down. His head was severed and was making a beautiful arc in the air.
After finishing the priest, I went to the tribe leader's house. He was studying some papers. I stealthily went behind and inserted my fingers into his brain. His body soon shriveled and burned. I looked at the papers he was studying, but soon my eyes were fixed on some words. These papers were records of the tribe's purchases with various merchants from outside. They also recorded some interesting things they saw. A few weeks ago, one of them saw a merchant selling a red gem. It had a translucent red color and was the size of a palm. The merchant announced it as a precious stone that was a gift from nature. When they accidentally placed the stone in front of the sun, the light refracted instantly, and a fire was lit. But none of them bought the stone from the merchant.
'Is it the Red Stone of Aja? It has similar properties. But how can a Red Stone of Aja exist here? Is it some other material with similar properties?'
Honestly, I have no idea. All I can do now is push it to the back of my mind and investigate later. I burned the records of the stone and left his house. I didn't kill his wife or children.
"I don't know why I hesitated."
After some searching, I found my father's body and quickly left the village as everyone slept soundly, unaware of what had happened.
