Planet Lord: The Rise of Civilization

Chapter 7: The First Steps

Astrael stood on the edge of a cliff. Below him, he saw his people gathering. They were getting ready to explore the unknown. They had just left their old world, and now, they were on this strange planet. It seemed scary, but it also offered new chances. They had taken a big step. Now, they had to figure out how to survive.

The gravity felt a bit heavier here. Every step was tougher than usual. The air was thick with a mist that felt sticky on the skin. Astrael noticed his people were getting used to it quickly, but there was tiredness in their eyes. This was not a friendly place. The air buzzed with sounds that hinted at wild creatures nearby. Creatures that had never seen humans before.

Rael, the tough warrior, was already getting his team ready. His strong voice rang out, giving orders to gather supplies and prepare for a scouting trip. His presence gave the other team members strength, even if the unknown world felt overwhelming. They were soldiers, but in this new environment, they seemed frightened and small. Astrael felt a mix of compassion and hope, believing they would adapt, just like they had always done.

"Let's move out," Rael said, his voice cutting through the thick air.

Kael led a group of explorers into the dense woods ahead. They kept their eyes peeled for any signs of danger. They walked carefully, but they were determined. Lyssa, the scientist, followed closely behind. She was eager to collect soil and plant samples. The air glowed strangely, illuminating everything with odd colors. The planet's sun was pale yellow, casting long shadows over vast plains and rocky outcrops.

As they went deeper into the rugged land, Astrael noticed the ground shaking lightly. The rumbling seemed unnatural, a pulse beneath their feet. It was clear they were not alone. Something lurked below the surface.

"Stay alert," Kael advised, taking the lead. "We don't know what could be out there."

Lyssa pulled her coat tighter around her body; her breath was visible in the chilly air. "These minerals are unique. We need samples to analyze later," she said excitedly.

Rael fretted. His eyes looked far ahead. "We can't linger. Let's set up camp soon. Keep moving."

Tension was building within the group. Different teams were starting to show their differences. Rael's soldiers wanted to act quickly. Kael's team focused on strategy and logistics. Meanwhile, Lyssa's scientists were drawn toward their curiosity, eager to examine everything around them. Their goals often clashed.

"We should secure the area first," Kael suggested, pointing to some rocks nearby. "We can make a base there and keep watch."

"We can't waste time," Rael replied, scanning the horizon. "We need defenses up right away."

The two leaders exchanged firm looks, aware of the heavy responsibility they carried. Astrael had seen this coming. They were trained, but this situation was different. This was real, and choices had real consequences.

Rael eventually softened his tone. "We'll need both approaches. Let's compromise. We'll build a small base here, but leave some troops to scout ahead."

Kael nodded in agreement.

The team got busy, using materials from the area to start building. Rael's soldiers worked on defenses while Kael's experts set up communication tools. Lyssa, however, had her eye on the glowing moss on the rocks. She knelt, carefully studying it. Her fingers grazed the vibrant growth.

"This is strange," she said quietly, gathering a sample. "These plants seem almost alive. I've never seen anything like this."

Her team paid little attention for now, but Astrael observed them from a distance. They were following their training, but he sensed this planet was going to challenge them in ways they weren't ready for. Accepting that fact sooner would be better.

Night fell, and with it, the temperature dropped sharply. Rael's soldiers prepared a small campfire, and the group gathered. The night was still, the only sounds coming from the crackling fire and distant calls of unseen creatures.

"Tomorrow, we'll go deeper," Kael said quietly. "But for now, let's rest."

The group settled in for the night, tired from their day. Astrael kept watch, quietly observing them. The unspoken tension was evident, but he hoped they would begin to understand one another. They had to, if they wanted to make it on this planet.

---

The night went smoothly, but morning brought surprises. As they packed their gear, the ground shook. This tremor was much stronger. Rocks fell from the cliffs. The team quickly moved away from the shaky ground.

"Get back!" Rael yelled, pulling a soldier out of harm's way. A giant sinkhole opened up, swallowing some equipment. The shaking grew even stronger. This planet was unstable.

Kael's group hurried to secure the remaining gear. But they had lost important supplies, and their makeshift base was now at risk.

"We need to find a new spot," Kael said, his tone serious. "It's too dangerous here."

Astrael watched his people gather their belongings. Frustration washed over their faces, but resilience shone through too. This was the moment. They were ready for this challenge.

As they moved on, Lyssa suddenly halted, raising her hand in caution.

"There's something out there," she whispered, eyes scanning the horizon.

At first, Astrael saw nothing. But then, a rhythmic pulse echoed through the air. It was an organized sound, unlike the natural noise of the planet.

"It's coming from below us," Lyssa said, her voice full of wonder. "Something is down there."

Before they could react, the ground shook again, more robust this time. The earth cracked wider, and tremors became fierce. Dark clouds gathered in the sky, creating an unnatural storm.

"Move to the new site! Now!" Rael commanded, his voice booming.

The team hesitated, their eyes glued to the widening crack in the ground. The rhythmic sound pulsed steadily, and Astrael felt a wave of unease.

This place was more than just unstable. Something was buried beneath them. Something was waiting for them to find it.
