Plundering Souls as the Blessed of an Ancient God

Chapter 6: Lisa

The more Cifer spoke to people throughout the morning, the more he pondered something.

He couldn't help but wonder how he had come to understand their language so quickly.

He assumed it was because due to his rebirth his mind was enhanced and his comprehension ability became faster.

But when he thought about it more, he came to the conclusion that his assumption was wrong.

Upon pondering it more, although the previous assumption was true too, Cifer believed he always understood the language, but the understanding was dormant within him. So the more he heard the language, the more that understanding awoke.

It was obvious to him that it was God's doing. God probably did something to his mind during the rebirth process.

With all his senses sharper than it once was, if he tried, Cifer could peep into the conversation Des and his wife were having.

But he decided against it and busied himself with his thoughts to distract him from their conversation.

It was when he heard certain words like 'help us', 'unknown background', 'suspicious', 'dangerous', that he dropped his morals and actively tried to hear their discussion.

With what Cifer picked up, he could summarize their discussion.

To them, he was an unknown child that appeared out of nowhere.

The most likely thing they believed to have happened is that he was a slave smuggled into the town and eventually escaped from the grasp of those who enslaved him.

Des agreed that it was slightly dangerous and disadvantageous, but Cifer's advantage could also overweigh the danger, explaining how he thinks Cifer is talented.

Des explained to his wife how Cifer, who had lost his memories, would be taught by him and would join him on his hunts, thereby making more money for their family.

Furthermore, if Cifer is trained well, he can serve as the wife's assistant and bodyguard while she's still pregnant.

After seeing some reason in what Des said, the pregnant lady glanced at Cifer who sat with an indifferent look before sighing.

Cifer could see the tinge of hesitation on her face as she told Des her say on the matter.

She said with a straight face.

"Alright, he can stay with us. But before I allow that, I want you to check if there's any talk that might be related to him."

Raising a finger to stop her husband from saying a word, she added,

"Also check if you can find something relating to his life before he lost his memories. Based on this, if there's no harm, I'll accept him."

Des released a satisfied sigh that was hidden under his smile.

"You don't have to worry, Dear. I already planned on doing this, I'm not careless."

Des' wife glared at him.

"Your past says otherwise."

Her statement left Des momentarily stunned. As he watched her walk towards Cifer, he swallowed all he wanted to say.

'They seem like a happy bunch…' Cifer commented as he saw Des' wife approach him with a smile befitting a winner.

The pretty brown-haired lady stood in front of Cifer and bent towards him.

With her face that close, Cifer's eyes started twitching due to how close she was.

"What a cute little boy." She said with a soft tone that betrayed the harsh and strict nature Cifer deemed she had.

Not knowing what to do, Cifer was forced to say. "N… nice to meet you, ma'am. I am Cifer."

Cifer's actions let Des' wife release an amused chuckle.

"Oh, I'm Lisa. You'll be under my care for now, Cifer." She stood up and turned to Des, who was preparing to leave. "You should get him some clothes on your way back. I'll watch over him today."

As if instinctively, Des glanced at Cifer for a slight moment and retracted his gaze almost immediately, and muttered something.

"Alright, Dear. I'll be back at Lunch or so… Depends on how soon I get the task done."

"No problem. Bye, love." Lisa waved at her husband

Unlike Lisa, Cifer noticed something in the last moments.

After Lisa said she'll watch him, Des flashed him a look of pity. That was not all, the pity was accompanied with Des' muttered statement which Cifer heard.

Des said, "What have I pulled this young boy into…"

'Wait, Des, take me along! Don't leave me alone, I'm only used to you!' Cifer wanted to yell it out, but he could only hold back his words seeing Lisa's figure.

"Tsk." Cifer hissed.

Lisa turned to face him. "Did you hiss?"

Cifer replied immediately, "No, ma."

Lisa's gaze lingered for a moment, before she smiled and said, "That's good. Such habits aren't befitting a cute little boy like you."

Searching comfort, Lisa sat on the couch, right beside Cifer then turned to face him. "Okay, Cifer. I'll be asking you questions now, this is an attempt to see how much you've forgotten."

Lisa's words caused Cifer to gulp.

"Don't worry, it won't take time. Before we start though, let me prepare something for you to eat."

'Food…? Food!'

Cifer's eyes widened as he nodded. "Alright. Thank you!"

For the first time in this world, he was going to eat real food.

The day went by so fast for Cifer.

After eating that morning, he spent the rest of the day answering Lisa's load of questions.

That was the longest conversation Cifer has been in throughout his two lifetime.

Still, Cifer found the question beneficial because he was also able to reciprocate question at times, thereby gaining more information about this world.

During this conversation, his understanding of this world's language became more familiar to him.

By the time their conversation ended, the sun was about to start setting.

Noticing this, Lisa stood up from the couch with a smile fixed on her face.

"Let's end our talk here for today. We already missed Lunch, I'll have to start preparing for dinner. I don't want to give Des a reason to complain."

'Oh, yes! Thank goodness… I was beyond tired… Let's just move onto the food!'

Rejoicing inwardly that both the conversation ended and food was about to be made, Cifer's slight smile remained on the surface.

"Alright, ma'am."

Lisa was about to walk towards the kitchen when she turned back to face Cifer.

"Hm, would you like to help this helpless stressed baby-carrying woman in the kitchen?"

'Ma'am, you're quite good at exaggerating… If anything, you stressed both of us… but I don't mind helping in the kitchen, might help me in the future.'

Cifer stood up and approached Lisa, giving her a nod. "Okay."

The rest of Cifer's evening was spent assisting Lisa in the kitchen.

Cooking was something Cifer enjoyed doing. Seeing the unique cooking process and kitchen equipments made this first time experience feel extra nice.

The time they spent preparing for the meal took too long that it made Cifer wonder if there was a feast.

Later, when the food was about to be done, Des came in, having concluded his search for information.

To Cifer's relief, there was no information regarding someone looking for a child of sorts. Regarding his background, Des' informants said it may take some time.

So for the meantime, the couples didn't have any problem having Cifer stay under their home after going through the information Des gathered.

Aligning with Cifer's expectations, already expecting that kind of news, Lisa cooked alot of food to welcome Cifer into their home.

At the end, Cifer could say he enjoyed his second day in this world.
