Pokemon Battle System: I Reincarnated As A Charmander

Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Run, Charmeleon, Run!

Lian first glanced at the participating Pokémon nearby. In Group Four, there were only five flying-types: Doduo, Murkrow, Staravia, and two Pidgeottos.

Among these flying-type Pokémon, none posed a significant threat to Lian. The strongest would likely be the Murkrow, with a speed base stat of 91. If it reached Level 20 or higher, its speed ability could potentially exceed 400.

As for other attribute Pokémon, Lian paid close attention to the Voltorb, resembling a red-and-white Poké Ball without the white button.

The Voltorb had a speed base stat of 100, which although not exceptionally high, was most likely the fastest among all participants in Group Four, excluding Lian himself.

The remaining Pokémon had speed base stats ranging above eighty but below ninety, posing minimal threat. The only variable remained their levels.

The race was about to begin; Julian stepped back from his position, continuously encouraging Lian despite having low expectations. Nevertheless, he still hoped that Charmeleon would pass the first round.

The ten Pokémon lined up, with Lian looking forward, awaiting the start command. He planned to initially stay closely behind the leading few, ideally maintaining some distance and avoiding drawing attention from commentator Tina. Then, at the opportune moment, he would unleash his full potential, securing a spot for advancement.

This way, even though he would advance, there wouldn't be specific details displayed on the big screen. Julian, while pleased, would have no reason to suspect anything unusual.

Beep!

With the referee's signal, Lian took off, but not too swiftly, intentionally falling to the very back right from the start.

"The Pokémon race is underway, and currently leading is Murkrow, followed closely by Voltorb..." Commentator Tina, riding her Staraptor overhead, provided continuous commentary.

Lian glanced at the Murkrow in front, realizing that the Voltorb must likely be of a lower level; otherwise, it wouldn't trail behind the Murkrow.

After considering briefly, Lian began accelerating, aiming to match the speed just behind Voltorb and its trailing Staravia, prioritizing staying low-key for now.

Initially trailing at the back, Lian now surged forward with increased speed, gradually overtaking Pokémon ahead of him. At this moment, commentator Tina's camera was not focused on Lian, allowing him to unleash his full potential without drawing attention.

Running at maximum capacity, Lian's true speed became evident. Had anyone witnessed his pace, they would have realized he was significantly faster than even the leading Murkrow.

The Pokémon being surpassed by Lian were bewildered; despite giving their all, they found themselves outpaced within an instant.

Lian looked up towards the distant Staraptor in the sky and knew he couldn't continue running at full throttle, lest he attract unwanted attention. He began to slow down.

Commentator Tina had her camera trained on the leading Murkrow, providing commentary and analyzing which Pokémon from Group Four were most likely to advance.

"I wonder how much everyone knows about Murkrows. If any Trainers wish to capture a Murkrow, prepare some shiny objects. During the night, Murkrows will be attracted to these gleaming items."

"As you can see, Murkrow is currently leading all Pokemon, including Voltorb known for its speed, which can only closely trail behind. It appears that among the fourth group's Pokemon, Murkrow has a strong chance of advancing."

"Wait, what do I see? Is it a Charmeleon!" Suddenly, Tina exclaimed with surprise and quickly directed the camera towards a sprinting Charmeleon on the ground.

Tina seemed particularly fond of Charmeleons, although not as cute as Charmanders, they still garnered significant popularity.

"You all know my dream is to soar through the skies riding a Charizard; now, half of my dream is fulfilled, just missing the Charizard itself."

"This Charmeleon is giving its all, striving hard to catch up with the Staravia ahead. Its determined gaze makes me want to cheer for it - let's all root for this Pokémon together!"

"Go, Charmeleon, go!"

"Sprint, Charmeleon, sprint!"

Commentator Tina focused the camera entirely on Lian, providing a close-up shot while enthusiastically shouting words of encouragement.

Julian excitedly watched the big screen, seeing Charmeleon's swift run, and cheered passionately, "Charmeleon, go! Overtake the Staravia ahead!"

Lian was dumbfounded; despite his efforts to stay low-key, Tina had focused the camera on him and continuously cheered him on, showing no intention of shifting the lens elsewhere.

Panicking, Lian realized he must be prominently displayed on the big screen, attracting everyone's attention. If Kalia or Julian saw this, they might uncover his secret.

Internally cursing himself, Lian regretted agreeing to Charmeleon's request. Why not just relax, lie down on the grass, and enjoy some leisure time instead?

Suddenly, a crucial realization hit him - during the Extreme Speed Conference, Kalia would likely remain at the grasslands all day, leaving only evenings for practical training sessions.

This meant leveling up during the competition would be challenging, and winning first place even more so. He needed to find a way to engage in battles throughout the race and continue evening training sessions to swiftly increase his level and enhance his speed abilities.

Tina, the commentator, posed a significant problem. Lian wished she would leave immediately. For now, he could only maintain his current pace, relieved that there was still much distance to the finish line, making it unlikely for Tina to keep the camera fixed on him indefinitely.

As time passed, Tina grew disappointed seeing Charmeleon unable to catch up with Staravia. However, she was aware that Charmeleon's speed talent was only average for the Extreme Speed Conference.

"Despite giving its all, Charmeleon still can't match Staravia. Let's focus on Voltorb now," said Tina, shifting her camera towards the leading Voltorb.

Voltorb's movement relied solely on continuous rolling, as it lacked limbs and could only advance by this method, resulting in impressive speed.

Lian noticed Tina flying ahead on her Staraptor and sighed in relief. With open grasslands around and few spectators nearby, as long as Tina didn't direct her camera this way, no one would likely know what he was doing.

He then zeroed in on several Pokemon ahead and behind him. These were predominantly Level 20 Pokemon with decent base stats. To level up during the race, Lian knew he couldn't miss out on battling these opponents.

Without hesitation, Lian charged towards the nearest Pokemon, initiating a dominant battle.

Time flew by, and Lian swiftly defeated most of the participating Pokemon. For him, Level 20 Pokemon now posed little challenge, allowing easy victories with minimal effort.

As Lian swiftly defeated most of his competitors and caught up with the leading group, he spotted Staraptor in the distance again, but Tina's attention was elsewhere.

At this moment, Murkrow led the race, followed by Voltorb in second, Staravia in third, and Lian in fourth place. The rest had already been outpaced and defeated by him.

Lian quickly closed the gap to Staravia, maintaining some distance. Seeing that Tina wasn't focused on this area, he unleashed a Dragon Breath directly towards Staravia.

Caught off guard, Staravia was hit hard by the intense Dragon Breath, plummeting from the sky. Although not completely incapacitated, it could no longer continue in the competition.

"It seems like a battle just occurred over there; let's take a look."

Tina, intrigued by the commotion, rode her Staraptor closer and discovered the injured Staravia.

She promptly called for staff to bring Staravia for treatment. As she scanned the scene, she noticed only Charmeleon still racing ahead, while all other Pokemon were nowhere in sight.

Tina couldn't focus on filming Charmeleon anymore, as ensuring the safety and well-being of the Pokemon during the Extreme Speed Conference was paramount.

Tina quickly realized that apart from Charmeleon, all other Pokemon had been defeated and could no longer continue racing. She promptly notified the staff to swiftly bring them for medical treatment.

"Don't worry, everyone! Medical personnel are already on their way to treat the injured Pokemon. Let's focus on the remaining competitors."

Some Trainers were visibly upset as their Pokemon, due to injuries, lost the chance to continue participating, but this was the nature of the Extreme Speed Conference; defeat indicated insufficient strength.

"Whose Charmeleon is that? How despicable!"

"Even if it beat the others, so what? It still has no chance of advancing!"

Meanwhile, Lian had caught up with Voltorb. He knew by now that maintaining a low profile while securing advancement was virtually impossible, as Tina constantly monitored the top contenders.

The best strategy now was to defeat all remaining Pokemon, ensuring others wouldn't attribute Lian's advancement solely to his speed.

As Tina approached, Lian unleashed a Dragon Breath towards Voltorb. He chose this move for its high damage potential and because both he and Charmeleon could use it effectively.

Using Dragon Rage would have been too conspicuous, as only Lian had mastered that technique. Other moves either lacked sufficient power or were unsuitable for this situation.

After defeating Voltorb, Lian swiftly targeted Murkrow. Before Tina could arrive, he repeated the tactic, using two consecutive Dragon Breaths to overcome Murkrow.

With Voltorb and Murkrow unable to continue due to their weakened state, no other Pokemon remained to challenge Lian for the fourth group's qualification spot. Even if he moved at the slowest pace, it wouldn't matter.

Lian leisurely strolled towards the finish line.
