Chapter 74: Chapter 72: Sowing Panic in the Biolife Alliance

Cipla Shipping was a dominant force in the transportation of genetic biology products throughout the Alverez Kingdom, holding a spot in the top ten in both revenue and influence.

Its current owners included Kyrie Sohno and several of his associates. Kyrie was not the original founder of the company. He and his partners had gradually taken control of the company from its previous owner, who lost his stake share by share until they forced him out entirely.

When Kyrie took the helm, he instituted sweeping reforms. Aided by the existing organizational structure, the company's profitability soared. When Charles formed the Biolife Alliance six months earlier, Kyrie was one of the first to join. His stature within the group rose rapidly until he had considerable influence over its policies.

But the recent assassination attempt at the International Convention and Exhibition Center shook the Biolife Alliance to its core. Charles had suffered a serious shoulder injury, putting many Alliance ventures on hold. Executives like Kyrie grew increasingly concerned that the Ice and Fire Alliance, the group behind the attack, might target them next.

Over time, most members' immediate fears subsided, allowing them to return to normal routines. This changed abruptly one morning when Kyrie's secretary burst into his office, visibly shaken.

"Mr. Sohno," she gasped, her voice shaking, "we received an e-mail. It's from the Ice and Fire Alliance."

Kyrie nearly jumped out of his chair. "What?"

In an instant, horrible memories of the convention ambush flooded back. He could still see a colleague's waist being ripped apart by that hideous spiked python, blood splattering Kyrie's face. Night after night, the same vision jolted him out of his sweaty sleep. He had been half-convinced that the killers lurked in every shadow. Now his worst suspicions had resurfaced.

"I... I'm not looking," he snapped, his jaw clenched.

The secretary's voice wavered as she spoke. "Sir, they mention you by name. We can't just ignore that."

Though fear prickled his skin, Kyrie pressed his lips into a tight line. "Fine," he managed. "Pass it on to me."

With trembling hands, the secretary obeyed his command. Two painfully long minutes passed before the email appeared on Kyrie's screen. There was no text, just a single video attachment.

A man with light blue hair, masked and cold, appeared in the footage. Beside him was a knife python, its slender form bristling with segmented bone blades. Though the snake's face was turned away, its menacing silhouette matched the creature that stalked Kyrie's nightmares. Seeing it slither and coil made his heart pound in his chest.

"Greetings to members of the Biolife Alliance," the blue-haired figure said, his voice filled with malice. "I have a message for some of you. If you do not leave the Biolife Alliance within a week, I may have to visit you personally."

Kyrie's skin went cold. He suspected that his name would appear, and the next moment the masked man read out a list of targets:

"Kyrie Sohno of Cipla Shipping, John Constantine of Demiurgic Advertising, Kim Kibutsuji of Upper Moon Ltd..."

Ten individuals in all. Each one faced with a stark ultimatum: leave the Biolife Alliance or face the wrath of the Ice and Fire Alliance. The man in the video then expanded on his threat:

"The rest of you, do not think you are safe. Eventually we will come for all of you. Do nothing to draw our attention... or else."

The footage ended. Kyrie realized that sweat had soaked through his shirt. The soft hiss of the python echoed in his mind as if it were only inches away.

"They're... they're bullying us," he stuttered, feeling all the bravado drain out of him. "They've gone too far."

His secretary stood in uneasy silence. "Shall we call the police, Mr. Sohno?"

Kyrie's lips parted, but the words stuck in his throat. Would contacting law enforcement provoke another deadly strike from these assassins? For a brief moment, conflicting thoughts swirled in his head. Finally, he spoke, his voice low:

"Follow up on the e-mail. See if there's anything traceable. We need to know how serious this is."

Inwardly, he was certain that a group as brazen as the Ice and Fire Alliance would leave no obvious digital clues. Still, Kyrie had to do something. Doing nothing felt too dangerous, while contacting the authorities might bring swift retribution.

Meanwhile, identical e-mails arrived in the inboxes of other prominent members of the Biolife Alliance. All contained the same chilling video, sending waves of panic through the Alliance's network.

Unaware of the gathering storm, Ethan Grave strolled casually through the bustling streets of Tarvok City. Moments earlier, he had tossed a cheap, used cell phone into a storm drain. This phone had served a single purpose: to transmit the threatening video in strict anonymity. He had visited a crowded shopping mall to piggyback on public Wi-Fi, then routed the connection through several proxy servers and used a disposable email service.

Satisfied with his deception, Ethan slipped into the mall, browsed aimlessly to blend in with the crowd, paid cash for clothes, and left through another exit. Not a single detail could be traced back to him, especially since the device had never had a SIM card installed.

A small smile played on his lips as he remembered Ditto's flawless transformation into that deadly bonebladed python. They'll think it's real, he thought. That should send the Biolife Alliance into a panic, just as planned.

Sure enough, the next day, Shevaun Smith, who had reluctantly joined the Biolife Alliance for better advertising opportunities, called Ethan. The excitement in Shevaun's voice was palpable.

"Mr. Grave, I'm out!" Shevaun burst out. "I'm leaving the alliance so our contract can go back to normal."

Ethan feigned mild surprise. "Aren't you worried that Charles will retaliate? You were worried about that before."

Shevaun let out a small laugh. "I've heard that the big shots in the Alliance have received direct threats from the Ice and Fire Alliance. They're all scared and too afraid to call the police. They'd rather leave Sullivan's orbit. The Alliance is falling apart!"

Ethan let a low hum of understanding pass his lips. "So you think you'll be safer if you leave."

"Definitely," Shevaun replied. "If Sullivan's main supporters are leaving, then he can't force everyone to stay. The situation is unraveling faster than I expected."

They talked for a few more minutes before Ethan ended the call with a quiet sense of satisfaction. Everything had gone more smoothly than he had predicted. Fear proved to be a powerful weapon. That single, cleverly orchestrated video had set the Biolife Alliance on the path to chaos, leaving Charles increasingly isolated.

Ethan leaned back in his chair, a slight grin forming. Ditto's transformation had sold the illusion perfectly, mirroring the real horrors of the real Ice and Fire Alliance. It might be possible to come up with an even more elaborate ruse next time, he thought. For now, he was satisfied with what had already happened.

He closed his eyes and replayed the key moment: the short but chilling video of Ditto's python form hissing menacingly at the camera. The scene had existed only in the fearful minds and digital inboxes of the Biolife Alliance members, yet it had proven powerful enough to shatter their unity in less than 24 hours.

Ethan took one last look at his phone to make sure there were no loose ends. With that, he set it aside and gazed out the window, feeling a renewed sense of control. Charles would be reeling from the desertion of his allies. And all of this, Ethan thought, had happened without a real assassin or weapon involved.
