"Of course, there are some Trainers who don't behave that way," Evan said calmly.
"You should have seen the news—some Trainers are often attacked in the wild," he continued, looking thoughtful. "Have you ever wondered about the main reason for this?"
Upon hearing the question, the three companions exchanged glances, their curiosity piqued. After a moment of contemplation, Daniel spoke up.
"Is it because they've been bullied too much by humans?" Daniel guessed hesitantly. "So, when they see humans, they attack?"
"Perhaps that's the reason?" another added.
Evan nodded in agreement. "Yes, that's most of it. Otherwise, why do you think wild Pokémon would attack you? Do you think they're just bored or looking for trouble?"
He paused, his tone growing sharper. "If they hadn't been mistreated so badly, would they harbor such resentment? Most Pokémon are naturally good-tempered. Of course," he added with a wry smile, "if you encounter Pokémon like Seviper or Beedrill, well, maybe just forget I said that. Some Pokémon are naturally aggressive."
The group nodded, acknowledging his point. It made sense. If Evan were a Pokémon constantly harassed by passing Trainers, he imagined he'd grow vengeful too. He would hold grudges, maybe even attack. After all, wasn't this a natural reaction?
To address this, Evan had come prepared. He carried a generous supply of energy cubes and left some behind whenever he defeated a wild Pokémon. He didn't concern himself with how others behaved—he simply chose to do the right thing himself.
After leaving enough energy cubes for a recently defeated Raticate to enjoy a full meal, Evan pressed on toward the forest.
As they ventured deeper, the number of Pokémon encounters increased. Evan decided it was time to let Charmander out for some training. He released the fiery little lizard and looked at Pikachu with a grin.
"Pikachu, your job is to find Rivals for Charmander," Evan instructed. "Remember the Caterpie you sparred with before? They'll be Charmander's primary opponents now. Lead the way and help him out."
Pikachu blinked, recalling the numerous Caterpie it had battled in the past. Its ears drooped slightly, clearly unenthusiastic about the task.
'Pika...' it groaned internally. Still, Pikachu turned to look at Charmander.
'Pika?' it asked, as if checking on its readiness.
'Char!' Charmander replied enthusiastically, puffing out its chest and slapping it with pride. It was more than ready.
Charmander had been steadily growing stronger. Over the past three days, it had started consuming the fire energy cubes Evan prepared, fueling its development. Its moves, particularly its fire-type attacks, were becoming more powerful. Ember, its basic fire attack, was already on the verge of transforming into Flamethrower. With sufficient practice and strength, the transition would occur naturally. Evan was confident Charmander could handle itself in battle.
With determination, the two Pokémon dashed ahead to begin their training, while Evan followed with his three companions in tow. Before long, a battle erupted. Despite being young, Charmander proved capable. Having observed Pikachu's battles at the breeding house, it had picked up techniques and strategies. Against the weak Caterpie it faced, a single Ember was enough to win.
Evan followed closely, ensuring every defeated Caterpie was treated with care. He left behind energy cubes for each one before moving on. This became the pattern as they progressed deeper into the forest—Charmander and Pikachu fought, and Evan ensured no harm was left unattended.
After more than half an hour of battling and trekking, they finally arrived at their destination. Spread before them was a sprawling grassland, nearly a hundred acres wide, vibrant and alive with possibilities.
The grassland was teeming with grass-type Pokémon, their vibrant colors blending beautifully with the lush surroundings. Evan spotted a few Trainers camping nearby, likely enjoying the abundance of Pokémon and the serene environment.
The two Pokémon leading the way, Pikachu and Charmander, were visibly tired from their long trek. Upon arriving, they immediately found a shady spot and plopped down to rest. The numerous battles along the way had been exhausting, with Charmander facing as many as thirty opponents at times. Yet the hard work was paying off—Charmander's Ember was clearly evolving. The heat of its flames had noticeably increased, signaling it wouldn't be long before it mastered Flamethrower.
After surveying the area, Evan turned to his companions. "Let's find some suitable Pokémon to catch," he suggested.
The three nodded, their eyes scanning the grassland. Pokémon of all kinds were present, most of them grass-types like Oddish and Sunkern, easily visible among the tall grass.
Evan walked ahead thoughtfully, observing the Pokémon. With the right approach, he could catch a few to take back. He turned to Pikachu. "Pikachu, get ready to battle."
"Pika-pi!" Pikachu chirped, bounding forward, its ears perking up as it searched for its target.
Evan pointed toward a small group of Oddish nearby. "Knock them out, but be gentle. These ones are for capturing."
Pikachu nodded in understanding and darted forward. After quickly communicating the challenge to the Oddish, the Pokémon obliged, engaging Pikachu in battle. Sparks flew as Pikachu used a carefully controlled Thunder Shock, dodging a flurry of Razor Leaf attacks. The battle ended swiftly, and the Oddish were knocked unconscious.
Evan approached with Poké Balls in hand, capturing the fainted Oddish one by one. As they continued through the grassland, the team repeated this process. Bellossom, Sunkern, and Oddish all became part of Evan's collection, their captures smooth and efficient. Evan ignored the Vileplume they encountered, deciding they weren't needed.
Meanwhile, Isla had her first success as a Trainer. With Evan's guidance, she managed to capture a Bellossom. The thrill of her accomplishment lit up her face, and the group celebrated her achievement briefly before moving on.
As they ventured further, they came upon a cluster of Roselia. Their elegant forms glimmered in the sunlight, catching everyone's attention. Stephanie's eyes sparkled with excitement. "I want one of those!" she exclaimed, her enthusiasm evident.
Evan smiled, gesturing for her to move closer. "Let's see if we can make that happen."
The scene was bustling with excitement as Evan efficiently packed up the captured Pokémon. His companions couldn't hide their joy as Evan distributed some of the tamed Pokémon among them. By now, Evan had successfully tamed more than a dozen Pokémon on this trip.
The sun was high in the sky, and the group decided to rest under the shade of a large tree. Evan released the grass-type Pokémon that had been knocked unconscious earlier. Sitting down with them, he calmly explained their new roles.
"You've been tamed by me," Evan began gently. "Soon, I'll take you all to a breeding house. There's an orchard filled with fruit trees there, and I'd like your help taking care of them."
His tone was warm and persuasive. "In exchange, you'll have guaranteed food every day, a safe and cozy place to live, and no need to worry about being attacked by wild Pokémon. What do you think? You'll be my gardeners from now on."
Hearing Evan's words, the grass-type Pokémon perked up. Their eyes sparkled with interest. A peaceful life with abundant food, shelter, and safety? It sounded far better than the constant struggles of living in the wild. And those energy cubes—delicious and nutritious—were reason enough to agree without hesitation. One by one, they nodded their agreement, visibly relieved and excited about their new home.
Meanwhile, Isla, Daniel, and Michael were bonding with their new Pokémon. Isla, now the proud Trainer of a Roselia and a Bellossom, was beaming with joy. Daniel and Michael, each having captured a Roselia, were equally thrilled. Evan decided they'd need more Pokémon to round out their teams.
"Let's take our time and find some more for you," Evan said, looking thoughtful. Before he could plan further, the sound of a skirmish interrupted their conversation.
The group turned their attention toward the commotion. Nearby, three Scythers were locked in a fierce battle with a group of Pokémon that included a Meowth, a Mime Jr., and, to Evan's surprise, a Lurantis. His eyes widened as he noticed something extraordinary about the Lurantis—it was a shiny, its color scheme altered to a stunning yellow-green hue.
Evan immediately sprang to his feet. "Gallade, go!" he commanded.
Gallade, who had been peacefully eating, stood up and vanished with a Teleport, ready to take on the challenge. Evan couldn't hide his excitement. A shiny Lurantis was too rare and beautiful to pass up, and he was determined to catch it.
"This Lurantis will be mine," Evan declared with confidence. He also turned to his companions with a grin. "And as for the Scythers, each of you will get one. They'll be perfect for helping in the orchard—especially with cutting fruit."
His words lit up their faces. Scythers were known for their swift, blade-like arms, making them an excellent addition to the team.
Isla quickly made her decision. "If I take one Scyther, that'll make two for me. The rest are up to you guys!" she said generously.
Daniel and Michael nodded, already considering their choices. Mime Jr. and Meowth were also appealing options, and they began debating who would take which one.
Evan, however, was laser-focused on the battle ahead. With Gallade leading the charge, the group eagerly awaited the outcome of this exciting encounter.
Daniel quickly made her choice. "Then I'll take Mime Jr.," she said confidently.
Michael nodded in agreement. "No problem. I'll take Meowth."
With their choices made, the two hurried to catch up with Evan, who had already dashed toward the commotion. Pikachu and Charmander followed close behind, eager to join the action.
By the time they arrived, Gallade had already ended the battle. The three Scythers and the other Pokémon were unconscious, and Evan stood ready with a Poké Ball in hand. His first target? The shiny Lurantis.
As he prepared to throw the ball, a series of voices suddenly called out, "Wait!"
Evan ignored them. The Poké Ball left his hand, hitting Lurantis squarely. After a few shakes, the ball clicked, signaling a successful capture.
"Unbelievable!" an angry voice shouted from the grass. Evan turned to see a young man storming toward him.
"I told you to wait, didn't I?!" the man yelled, his frustration boiling over. "Grass!!"
Evan narrowed his eyes at the outburst, his expression cold. A faint blue glow emanated from his eyes as he telekinetically summoned the Poké Ball containing Lurantis back to his hand.
"What did you say?" Evan asked evenly, his tone void of emotion.
Gallade, sensing the tension, stepped in front of Evan. Its presence radiated an aura of power, and the sheer intensity caused the young man to falter.
Faced with Evan's unyielding expression and Gallade's menacing stance, the man's bravado crumbled. Panic replaced anger, and he stammered, "S-sorry to bother you. Goodbye." Without another word, he turned and bolted, his fear palpable.
As he fled, his thoughts raced. What was I thinking? Messing with a Psychic? And that Gallade… terrifying! If I'd tried anything, I wouldn't have stood a chance. He cursed himself for trying to capitalize on the situation, realizing too late that Evan was not someone to trifle with.
Meanwhile, Evan remained unfazed. What an idiot, he thought. Did he really think I'd hand over the Pokémon I just battled for? Shrugging it off, he focused on the task at hand. "Let's finish this," he said, tossing Poké Balls at the unconscious Scythers.
Isla and the others had witnessed the scene and quickly joined Evan. Isla frowned. "Who was that guy? He just wanted to steal what you worked for!"
"Peach-picker," she muttered in annoyance.
Evan chuckled lightly. "Maybe he had his eye on that shiny Lurantis for a while but didn't have the strength to catch it. He probably hoped to swoop in after the battle was over."
Isla nodded in understanding. "Still, it's so shameless."
Evan waved it off. "Doesn't matter now. Let's just focus on wrapping things up." He handed Poké Balls to his companions. "The Scythers are yours. Quick, capture them before they wake up."
Without hesitation, Isla, Daniel, and Michael threw their Poké Balls, successfully capturing the Scythers.
Evan grinned as he glanced at the Poké Balls in his backpack. With so many new Pokémon, the breeding house would be livelier than ever. The group returned to their resting spot and released the newly captured Pokémon to heal and converse with them.
As Evan treated the Pokémon and explained their roles, most of them were receptive and agreed to their new arrangement. However, the Scythers, proud and independent warriors, remained defiant. Their frustration stemmed from being defeated by Gallade instead of the Trainers who had claimed them.
Evan noticed the tension. "Isla, Daniel, Michael," he said, addressing his companions, "you'll need to prove yourselves to them. Scythers respect strength. Show them that you're worthy of being their Trainers."
Understanding his point, the three prepared themselves to battle and earn their Scythers' trust. It was clear that this journey was far from over, but with teamwork and determination, they were ready to face the challenge.
