Chapter 33: Chapter 33 - Battle at the Lodge
Later after that, Rico and Dawn, alongside their teams, are walking down the balcony of the ski lodge. They are not holding hands though. They were looking at the beautiful sunset when Rico said to her, "I really liked sunsets and sunrises, you know."
"You're right," Dawn agreed with him. "They're really beautiful."
After that, they stopped walking and stand towards the setting sun.
"So, Rico," Dawn asked breaking the silence, "have ever been in a Pokémon journey?"
"No," Rico answered back normally, "but I'm planning to go on one after I finished school."
"Oh, okay then."
And then, while they are having a good time, Red Eye and his grunts, on their Z.Z. Flyers, interrupt and intervened their quiet and lovely scene. Their Pokémon then posed retaliations against them.
"Hi there, kid," one of Red Eye's grunts greeted in semi-smooth style. Upon turning around to see who is saying that line, the two kids got upset in seriousness and resentment.
"Oh, no, not you guys again."
"Oh, you mean people."
"What do you want from us?" Rico responded in demanding.
"Oh, you know," Red Eye retorted in carefree, "to steal your Pokémon, and that new Pokémon as well."
"Then we won't let you!" Rico loudly retorted in response.
Riolu and Litleo, as well as Absol, then responded in retorting and resisting.
"Me too!" Dawn added.
"Ugh!" Red Eye retorted in annoyance and frustration. "You puny kids! That's it! We'll do it by force!"
He then called out his Cranidos; his two grunts, in turn, called out their Pokémon, Vanillish, or, two Vanillishes.
Upon seeing a new Pokémon, Rico asked in mild stunning, "Who's that Pokémon?"
He then pulled his Pokédex and pointed it towards one of the Vanillishes; his Pokédex then responded, "Vanillish, the Icy Snow Pokémon and the evolved form of Vanillite. An Icy-type. It conceals itself from enemy eyes by creating many small ice particles and hiding among them."
"Oh, how icy it was," Rico commented.
He then put his Pokédex back and commanded Riolu and Litleo in seriousness, "Alright, Riolu, use Focus Blast, and Litleo, use Ember!"
Riolu and Litleo then used Focus Blast and Ember, striking one of the Vanillishes and Cranidos, striking both effectively.
"Woah," Rico commented in amazement of Riolu's advantage. "It' so effective against Ice-type."
"Fighting-type is effective against Ice-type," Dawn briefly explained, "because Fighting-type can break ice."
"Oh, that's why."
Vanillish and Cranidos then get up from the powerful attack.
"Argh!" Red Eye retorted in frustration. "Vanillish, use Ice Beam!"
Vanillish then used Ice Beam, striking Litleo with an icy beam of energy, evenly freezing it solid.
"Ah!" Rico sharply retorted in shock. "You're frozen!"
"Take its place and melt the ice with Flamethrower!" Dawn responded in serious coolness as she called out her Quilava. Her Quilava then came out of its Poké Ball, stepping into battle. Riolu then used Karate Chop many times on frozen Litleo, trying to break the thick ice.
"Alright, use Flamethrower!" Dawn commanded Quilava in serious coolness.
Quilava then used Flamethrower, scorching one of the Vanillishes with an intense blast of fire, striking it so effective it fainted.
"Argh!" Red Eye commented in frustration. "It's too powerful! Cranidos, use Zen Headbutt!"
Cranidos then used Zen Headbutt, focusing its willpower to its head and then, rammed Quilava in power steiking it effectively.
Then, just in time, Riolu managed to break the ice that froze Litleo; Litleo then collapsed from it.
"Litleo, are you okay?" Rico asked it in worry. "Don't give up, get up." But, Litleo didn't respond properly.
"Litleo, you can do it!" Rico said in cool emphasis. "Remember the time you were being under attack by some Whimsicotts? Be strong. Overcome your fear!"
Litleo then remembered the time it was under attack by some Whimsicotts; after it, Litleo get up and snapped out, standing in seriousness and fierce. Rico then snapped out from worry to stunning amazement.
Then, Litleo learned Flamethrower, scorching the remaining Vanillish an intense blast of fire, steriking it effectively, finishing it off; Vanillish then ftftainted in defeat.
"Woah, is that…," Rico asked in amazement, "…Flamethower?"
"Yes, it is," Dawn answered enthusiastically. "Flamethrower is a powerful Fire-type move. It may also leave the foe a burn."
"Wow!" Rico replied in amazement. "That's cool, Litleo."
Litleo then responded back in positive happiness.
Riolu then happily responded as well.
Upon seeing these happenings, Red Eye was stunned, and then, got enraged by this.
"You kids are way stronger than us!" Red Eye retorted in anger and frustration. "We could have your advantage if we were you. Cranidos, quickly, use Zen Headbutt!"
But when Cranidos is about to use Zen Headbutt, Rico quickly commanded Riolu and Litleo, "Quickly, Riolu, use Focus Blast, and Litleo, use Flamethrower!"
Riolu and Litleo then used Focus and Flamethrower immediately on Cranidos, striking it so effective it fainted in defeat.
"No…NOOO!" Red Eye yelled out loudly in defeat. "Argh! You kids! You will pay for this. We'll get you next time. You'll see!"
He then called back his Cranidos, so as his grunts to their Vanillishes; they then all fled the place on their Z.Z. Flyers.
Once they fled, Dawn ran to Rico, and commented the battle, "Wow, Rico, you're so cool. I can't believe you won against them."
"Yeah, right, thanks," Rico happily replied.
Riolu then happily responded.
Litleo then responded in happiness.
Quilava then happily responded.
Dawn's Piplup then responded in happiness as well.
Just then, Lucas and Rosario, who had heard and seen the battle from the distance while skiing, rushed to the scene, calling for Rico.
"Mom! Dad!" Rico replied to their calls.
Upon seeing him, the couple ran to him and gave him a hug for a couple of seconds in embrace and relief.
"Rico, are you alright?" Lucas asked him.
"Yes, I'm fine," Rico answered back.
"Did someone attack you, honey?" Rosario asked him in response.
"Yes, but we scared them away," Rico responded back.
"Well, we could have give you some help," Lucas responded back while dusting the debris off his son's jacket, "but oh, well, I guess you scared them away."
"Yeah, dad."
Dawn and her two Pokémon, however, remained silent and speechless.
Later, at night, in the city street medium-covered in white snow, Rico and Dawn are walking; they then stopped at an intersection.
"Well, that was a fun battle," Dawn said to Rico in positivity. "Now, I gotta go now."
"Are you going home?" asked Rico back in surprise.
"Yes, my long vacation here is over. I'm going back to the Sinnoh region by tomorrow."
"Oh, okay then. I guess it's goodbye for me now."
"Yeah, well, bye now."
She then ran to the right towards a hotel. Rico just stood there, and then, walked away in the opposite direction, alongside his team.
