Pokémon: No Way! The Golden Finger Only Comes When I'm About To Die!?

Chapter 174: The Tree of Beginning Origins

Angie was amazed for no more than three seconds before the Ho-Oh's body shimmered with light, revealing its true form—Mew.

"Mew~ Mew~"

Seeing that Angie had successfully passed the trial and reached the Tree of Beginning, Mew appeared delighted. It floated above Angie's head, circling him cheerfully.

"Pawmot~ Pawmot~"

Pawmot jumped up and down, waving excitedly to greet Mew.

"Mew~"

Mew descended and reached out to high-five Pawmot.

Sneasel, not familiar with Mew, retreated behind Angie, clutching his leg and watching silently as Mew interacted playfully with the others.

While Mew was having fun with the Pokémon, Angie tended to Aerodactyl's injuries.

"Aerodactyl~"

Aerodactyl nodded to Angie and his companions before flapping its wings rapidly and vanishing into the distance.

Mew waved to everyone, beckoning them to follow as it led the way deeper into the Tree of Beginning.

Though referred to as a "tree," the Tree of Beginning was, in essence, a massive rock-based lifeform. The abundant, unique vegetation growing on its surface made it look like a colossal tree.

The leaves of these trees—what Angie sought—were a part of the Tree of Beginning itself. To the tree, they were akin to human hair or the fur, scales, or feathers of a Pokémon.

The Tree of Beginning's interior was vast, housing numerous interconnected spaces where diverse Pokémon thrived. These spaces were linked by special passageways.

Guided by Mew, Angie and the group traversed one such passage and arrived at a lush area filled with rivers and forests.

In the crystal-clear waters, Angie saw numerous Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto, and Kabutops.

These fossil Pokémon that has been long extinct in the outside world, still thrived in abundance within the Tree of Beginning.

After passing through this space, the group entered another tunnel. Emerging on the other side, they found themselves in a majestic area dominated by waterfalls and dense forests.

Above the cascading waterfalls, swarms of Swablu and Altaria soared gracefully.

In the waters below, Dratini and Dragonair swam elegantly.

On the shores flanking the waterfalls, about a dozen Dragonite were frolicking playfully.

The sight of flocks of Swablu and Altaria flying together across the sky was truly breathtaking.

Angie walked over to the water's edge, and the Dratini and Dragonair immediately swam over, their large, curious eyes fixated on him.

It was their first time seeing a human.

Angie reached out and dipped his hand into the water. The Dratini eagerly approached, gently licking his palm with their soft, cool tongues.

They were absolutely adorable.

Their tongues were smooth and cool, giving Angie a delightful sensation as they licked his hand.

Pawmot mimicking Angie, extended its paws into the water. However, unlike with Angie, the Dratini kept their distance.

The subtle electrical current running through Pawmot's paws was perceptible to the Dratini, making them wary of getting too close.

Suddenly, Pawmot had a flash of inspiration. It pulled out some food it had saved from the royal banquet and presented it. Drawn by the delicious aroma, the Dratini swam ashore and gathered around Pawmot.

"Mew~ Mew~"

Mew flew over to Angie and called out twice. Only then did Angie realize that the Dragonite they had encountered earlier on the journey was actually the leader of this area.

After leaving this space, Angie and his group continued upward, eventually arriving in a section inhabited by a large number of Aerodactyl.

The Aerodactyl that had battled the Komala earlier was the leader of this area.

Leaving the Aerodactyl's domain, Angie and the group ventured into the next passageway.

Guided by Mew, they encountered a multitude of Pokémon living in harmony within the Tree of Beginning, all thriving under Mew's protection.

In one of the passages, Angie and his group came across Regice, Regirock, and Registeel—the Pokémon Ash had previously mentioned.

The three Regis were visibly surprised to see a human in their territory. The lights on their faces flashed rapidly as they deliberated whether to drive Angie out.

Fortunately, Mew appeared just in time. Upon realizing that Angie was here with Mew's permission, the three Regis turned and left without causing trouble.

Passing through another corridor, Angie and his companions emerged outside.

They were now at the midsection of the Tree of Beginning. From this vantage point, they could see an endless stretch of mountains and forests in the distance, and the faint outline of Rota City was visible on the horizon.

"Mew~ Mew~"

Mew pointed to the nearby leaves of the Tree of Beginning, reminding Angie of the purpose of his journey.

"I got so distracted that I almost forgot the reason I come here."

Angie smacked his forehead and walked over to the tree leaves, activating his Eye of Observation to carefully examine them in search of qualified leaves.

However, the result was disappointing—every leaf here was deemed inferior by the Eye of Observation.

Mew could tell from Angie's expression that the answer wasn't favorable. Resolutely, it led Angie and the others back into the passageway, continuing toward the upper reaches of the Tree of Beginning.

After traversing several more spaces, Mew guided them out of yet another corridor. This time, they emerged at an even higher point in the tree.

Angie approached the leaves growing in this new area and used his Eye of Observation again. He then turned to Mew and shook his head.

Mew clenched its tiny fists, wearing an expression that said it was ready to punch Angie. Angie could only respond with a sheepish smile.

Mew adorably waved its fists a few times before slumping its shoulders in resignation. Determined, it led Angie further upward.

Before they realized it, they had reached the very top of the Tree of Beginning.

At the tree's highest point, Angie saw a grove of trees that were both similar to and distinct from the ones he had seen before.

The moment he laid eyes on these trees, an instinct told him that this was what he had been searching for.

Angie sprinted forward and activated his Eye of Observation. Information about the leaves rapidly flashed before his eyes.

Angie's face lit up with joy—he had finally found it!

The ordinary leaves of the Tree of Beginning Origins were dark green, but the ones here were light green, with the higher-quality ones appearing even lighter in color. The top-grade leaves were an almost pale yellow.

After careful observation, Angie discovered that most of the leaves in this area were of ordinary quality, a smaller amount were of high quality, and the top-grade leaves were exceptionally rare.

Without delay, Angie pulled a basket from his backpack and began picking leaves.

Seeing him work, the Pokémon quickly joined in to help, including Mew.

Pawmot and Sneasel, however, turned the task into a friendly competition, each trying to outdo the other in speed.

Pawmot picked a handful and smugly tilted its head toward Sneasel; Sneasel, in turn, gathered two handfuls and shot a triumphant glance back at Pawmot.

The back-and-forth contest between the two Pokémon was so amusing that Loke almost burst out laughing.

As Angie continued picking leaves, he casually asked Mew, "These leaves look so unique, and you failed to find them a few times before. Why didn't you think of coming here?"

"Mew~ Mew~"

Mew explained that it hadn't even noticed this place before. It spent most of its time playing around and rarely paid attention to such minor details—let alone ventured to the very top of the Tree of Beginning Origins.

Before they knew it, everyone had filled several baskets with leaves. Seeing that it was getting late, Angie called out.

"That's enough! Let's find a spot to rest before it gets dark."

The Pokémon stopped working upon hearing his suggestion.

After storing the filled baskets in his system inventory, Angie turned to Mew and asked, "Is it okay for us to stay here for the night?"

"Mew~ Mew~"

Mew nodded and then flew into a nearby passage, waving its tiny arms to beckon Angie and the others to follow.

With Mew leading the way, Angie and the group arrived at a small, cozy area.

The space was covered with grass, with a small pond at its center and a large tree growing in the middle.

Beneath the tree were piles of various toys, presumably items that Mew had "borrowed" from Rota City.

Angie speculated aloud, "Mew, is this your home?"

"Mew~ Mew~"

Mew nodded with its eyes squinted happily.

Angie chuckled and said, "Well then, we'll be imposing for the night!"

"Mew~ Mew~"

Mew nodded cheerfully and immediately requested a delicious meal from Angie.

"No problem! I promised you three grand meals, didn't I?" Angie replied enthusiastically.

Hearing this, Mew became even more excited, flying circles above Angie's head in delight.

Just then, Pawmot seemed to have discovered something and began shouting for Angie to come over.

Curious, Angie walked over and saw Pawmot crouched near the base of the large tree, its rear end sticking out as it rummaged around.

"Pawmot~ Pawmot~"

When Angie arrived, Pawmot scrambled to its feet, its face full of amazement, and pointed toward a hole at the base of the tree.

To Angie's surprise, the hole was emitting a vibrant green glow.

"What's this?" Angie asked, equally astonished.

"Mew~ Mew~"

Mew flew over to Angie's side.

After listening to Mew's explanation, Angie learned that the hole connected to the nutrient transport channels of the Tree of Beginning Origins.

The Nutrient Transport Passage is crucial to the health of the Tree of Beginning. Any issues with it could lead to the collapse of the entire Tree.

Additionally, this passage has a special function: Mew can use it to travel quickly to any part of the Tree of Beginning.

Realizing how important the tree hole is, Angie immediately pulled Pawmot away, cautioning it not to get too close. Any damage here could spell disaster. Angie recalled hearing Ash describe how terrifying it was when something went wrong with the Tree of Beginning.

"Mew~ Mew~"

However, Mew reassured Angie that touching the passage was fine.

The Tree of Beginning doesn't react aggressively or reject two specific types of beings:

1. Pokémon.

2. Humans who have awakened the power of Aura.

It was only then that Angie understood. Even if he had come to the Tree of Beginning without Mew's permission, the Tree of Beginning wouldn't have reacted as Ash had described.

Because Angie possessed the power of Aura, the Tree of Beginning, which is drawn to this energy, would naturally accept him.

This was something even Ash didn't know.

It was precisely because Angie had awakened the power of Aura that Mew bonded with him so easily, as Mew and the Tree of Beginning are symbiotic.

"Mew~ Mew~"

Mew waved at Angie, then surprised him by diving headfirst into the tree hole, only to reappear moments later.

"Are you asking us to join you?" Angie asked.

"Mew~ Mew~"

Mew squinted happily and nodded.

Angie approached the tree hole. As Mew ducked back inside, Angie slowly peeked in.

What he saw was extraordinary.

Inside the upward passage, streams of green energy flowed. Deep green orbs floated rapidly upward like bubbles.

Mew was already bouncing playfully on one of these green orbs.

Angie climbed into the tree hole and leapt onto one of the orbs. However, he nearly slipped off, panicking before imitating Mew by lying flat on the orb for balance.

Outside, Pawmot noticed Angie disappear and immediately followed him into the tree hole.

Then, Sneasel, Loke, and Metagross (carrying a Komala on its head) also entered.

Inside the tree hole, everyone marveled at the scene. They eagerly jumped onto the green orbs, treating them like bumper cars, colliding with one another in a frenzy of laughter.

Even the usually composed Metagross couldn't resist bouncing on the orbs.

When Mew used its orb to bump Angie, nearly knocking him off, Pawmot snuck a glance at Sneasel and grinned mischievously.

As Sneasel was distracted, Pawmot rammed its orb forward, aiming to catch Sneasel off guard.

But Sneasel had anticipated this move. It deftly maneuvered its orb, dodging the attack.

Pawmot missed its target and struggled to regain control, only to find Sneasel already counterattacking.

With a sudden jolt, Pawmot's orb wobbled violently, sending it flying off.

"Pawmot~ Pawmot~"

Pawmot shrieked as it plummeted downward, only to be bounced back up by another fast-rising orb.

"Pawmot~ Pawmot~"

Pawmot clutched its chest in relief, while the others burst into laughter at its comical misfortune.

The loudest laughter, of course, came from Sneasel.

Through the nutrient passage, Mew guided Angie and his Pokémon to explore many spaces inhabited by various Pokémon.

In one area, large flocks of Farfetch'd lived freely. They either flew in unison through the skies or lined up by the river to drink water, appearing completely at ease.

In another area, Kangaskhan wandered about. The mothers carried their joeys in their pouches, some strolling on the grasslands, others foraging in the forest.

There were also spaces where groups of Slowpoke, led by a Slowking, lived. A large number of Slowpoke were floating on the water, all respectfully bowing to Slowking sitting on a rock in the center of the water. The scene was highly ceremonial.

In one of these spaces, Angie also saw a large group of Chansey.

The Chansey were incredibly gentle, and whenever any injured Pokémon came to find them, they would kindly use Healing Waves or Life Dew to heal the wounded.

For Pokémon enthusiasts, this place was like heaven! If it weren't for the timing being off, Angie would have loved to exchange some of their eggs. After all, they were an incredibly rare ingredient!

After a long day of fun, Mew led Angie and the others back to its home.

Then, Angie began preparing dinner.

After thinking for a moment, Angie decided to teleport in some of his Pokémon from home: Diancie, Munchlax, Inteleon, Gengar, Magearna, Volcanion, and Passimian.

It had been a while since he last saw them, and he missed them dearly.

Since leaving home, he hadn't summoned any of his Pokémon.

Of course, his Pokémon missed him just as much.

"Munchlax~"

"Gengar~"

"Inteleon~"

As soon as Munchlax, Gengar, and Inteleon were teleported over, they rushed straight into Angie's arms.

Angie was instantly knocked over by them.

"Munchlax~ Munchlax~"

Master! Master! I missed you so much!

Munchlax clung to Angie's waist, repeatedly nuzzling into his chest, its face showing an exaggerated, pitiful expression.

Master hadn't summoned it even once.

"Gengar~ Gengar~"

"Inteleon~ Inteleon~"

Gengar and Inteleon both clung to Angie's head and neck, similarly expressing how much they missed him and their complaints.

Why hadn't he summoned them?

Angie patted their heads one by one. "Good, I missed you too! I've summoned you now, right? I'll try to summon you more in the future."

"Munchlax~"

It's a promise.

Munchlax looked up at Angie and said.

"A promise, a promise." Angie repeatedly assured.

After a heart-to-heart reunion, Angie, with the help of his three apprentices, began preparing dinner. The other Pokémon started playing with Mew.

Mew had collected various toys, like Squirtle tops, Yo-yos, and more… some of them were quite old, and it was unclear when Mew had started collecting them.

Before long, everyone became familiar with Mew, and the space was filled with laughter and chatter.

Mew was lively among the Pokémon, enthusiastically explaining the different ways to play with the toys.

As for Angie, with the help of his three apprentices, he quickly finished dinner. The group, along with Mew, Loke, and Sneasel, sat around together, chatting and eating, making it a very lively meal.

Mew had never had such a lively meal before, and was in such a good mood that after every couple of bites, it would fly up from its seat, chat with everyone, then sit back down.

As for Sneasel, it stayed close to Angie, trying to win his favor, with the goal of one day being able to taste Angie's cooking.

Unexpectedly, that day came quicker than it thought.

Looking at the abundant food on the table, Sneasel's eyes nearly couldn't keep up. It was Munchlax, the little warm boy, who took care of it, constantly giving it food, and that's when Sneasel figured out where to start.

During the meal, Munchlax was particularly attentive to Sneasel, the newest member.

Because of this, Sneasel had a very good impression of Munchlax, and treated him much more kindly than it did Pawmot.

Whenever Munchlax looked at Sneasel, it always smiled warmly, its expression friendly.

Though Sneasel could hold grudges, it also knew how to show gratitude.

After dinner, Angie laid a large, soft, thick blanket in Mew's house, and everyone lazily sprawled on it.

After sitting for a while, Angie took out the leaves from the World Tree from his system bag and began sorting them according to their quality.

Munchlax, Inteleon, Gengar, Magearna, and Passimian quickly came over to help.

Angie said, "Can you help me wash these leaves after I sort them?"

All five Pokémon nodded at the same time.
