The battle began with Lapras freezing the ground around them into an ice rink.

Clever. Changing the battlefield would improve Lapras's mobility while reducing Larvitar's movement options.
"Sandstorm!"
A swirling storm of sand erupted, covering the frozen ground with a thin layer of sand particles.
"Dig!"
At Hikaru's command, Larvitar snickered mischievously before digging into the ground. Following Hikaru's suggestion, it first dug a vertical tunnel before expanding horizontally.
